Mama's Cleaning

That was the day we played all day outside
And ride imaginary stick horses around
Shooting and shouting as if our lungs was rawhide
It was in imagination that the fun abound
That was the day the house seemed in disrepair
Furniture and boxes all out of place
Chaos reigned while mama cleaned everywhere
Leaving germ and dirt without a trace.

I thought of mama today as I watched you clean
Remembered how we would wipe our foot
On the little mat, but mostly could not dare go in
As if we were the grime or the cause of soot
Food would only come when mama took a break
But not before dark and howling belly turned
Play into night, and after the yard was swept and raked
Something about you in mama I'd discerned.

What was all that cleaning just to be clean, I ask
Or was it a search for something missing here
What deeper motive had the highly honored task
What coin, or sheep, or son hid behind the tear
What golden fleece or grail to you both have been lost
I know mama cleaning searched for meaning here
As if sin was something we could see like life's dross
As if to seek was the magic bullet for man's despair.

O something about you remind me of mama, my dear
And childhood comes rushing back in floods
Two sparse rooms and five pieces of furniture there
While we chased butterflies from dying buds
You are different though, for you have allowed us in
Watching our eyes to tell you of missing spots
But we just laugh and tell long tales while you clean
Life is too short to search or go connecting dots.

Premium Member Christmas - It's Just Another Day For Me

Christmas...

It's just another day
Another day for me

I won't get any presents
I won't sit beside a lighted tree

It's just another day
Another day to try and survive

Another day to try and find food to eat
Another day to try and stay alive

It always seems to be just another day
Another day to try and do my best

Another day to hug my children
Another day to pray to God to help me rest

Christmas is just another day...
Just as previous years have come before

Another day to sit and wonder
Where I'll be, when I don't have a house anymore

It's just another day to think about
Where and when things went all wrong

To wonder if all of our elected politicians
Care to see what is really going on

I am just an average American
who has always been just fine

But without a job to go too
I've fallen below the poverty line

I don't want to be here
I don't want to lose everything I own

I want to be able to afford the Internet
I want to be able to have a phone

I want to be able to have a car to drive
I want to able to go to work

I want my children to be safe and warm
I want to have some money in my purse

I am sick and tired of all of my days
Being unproductive and the same

I am sick of sleeping hungry and cold
I am sick of not knowing where I am going to stay

I am sick of my life being on hold
I don't want to have to live this way

So Christmas is just another day...
Another day for me to see

All the things that I am missing
Another year my children won't have a tree

But another day to love my children
The bright spots in my life

Another day to go to church and pray
for those who are living just like me
Those who are still living
Daily with my strife.

What a Wonderful Dream of P.S 19

This poem was written by my brother - in - law Bruce Saks who is a high ranking member of
the New York City police force.

T'was the day before Christmas and all through the School
Not a child was talking ...not a break of a rule
The halls were all empty ....the classes all filled
The children all learning...the teachers all thrilled
The books were all open ....the pencils so worn
From the writing of children ...oh my what great form
A voice on the speaker shouted out with such glee
What a great job you're doing....you teachers you see
Now the bells all had sounded and the tots all on line
Not a peep in the ranks ...not a voice ...not a whine
For lunch was on hand and the day was half done
Another few hour of this great joyous fun
We started our reading ...we all read our books
We read...and we read...not a peep..not a look
I looked at the wall and the clock had said three
And the bell it was ring for the children and me
Goodbye all you sweet ones...whose such fun and such joys
Can't wait till tomorrow for you girls and you boys
Then all of a sudden my eyes opened wide
To the ring of my clock that just shook me inside
Yes it was all just a dream with my full day ahead
Of pencils and reading and kids to be fed
Oh what a thought ...if it could happen that way
A beautiful vision makes a beautiful day
So I.m back in my room and a voice soon speaks out
F from that box on the wall...with a shriek and a shout
A meeting at lunchtime that you all must attend
No excuses accepted...you must stay ..till the end
No I 'm not dreaming ...but this I will say
That tonight in my bed at the end of my day
I will lay down and dream of a wonderful thought
Of all the young children that all I have taught
Then all of a sudden my eyes opened wide
To the ring of my clock that shook me inside
Yes again I have dreamt and again I will say
Can't wait for my bed at the end of the day

Premium Member Change

When the wind of change

Comes blowing at your door

When you don't know what's good anymore

Do you take the leap

They say you sow what you reap

When the gale blows and you can't see

Confused you don't know where you should be

You worry about the change

Because some of life you will have to rearrange

New is always good they say

But it can be worse in a bad way

It came out of the blue

My husband wanting something new

I must say I am totally confused at this change

I found it even a little strange

One day for no reason

One day in this spring season

The storm hit our door

Wondering if we are in for a hurricane or maybe more.
