What a Wonderful Dream of P.S 19
This poem was written by my brother - in - law Bruce Saks who is a high ranking member of the New York City police force. T'was the day before Christmas and all through the School Not a child was talking ...not a break of a rule The halls were all empty ....the classes all filled The children all learning...the teachers all thrilled The books were all open ....the pencils so worn From the writing of children ...oh my what great form A voice on the speaker shouted out with such glee What a great job you're doing....you teachers you see Now the bells all had sounded and the tots all on line Not a peep in the ranks ...not a voice ...not a whine For lunch was on hand and the day was half done Another few hour of this great joyous fun We started our reading ...we all read our books We read...and we read...not a peep..not a look I looked at the wall and the clock had said three And the bell it was ring for the children and me Goodbye all you sweet ones...whose such fun and such joys Can't wait till tomorrow for you girls and you boys Then all of a sudden my eyes opened wide To the ring of my clock that just shook me inside Yes it was all just a dream with my full day ahead Of pencils and reading and kids to be fed Oh what a thought ...if it could happen that way A beautiful vision makes a beautiful day So I.m back in my room and a voice soon speaks out F from that box on the wall...with a shriek and a shout A meeting at lunchtime that you all must attend No excuses accepted...you must stay ..till the end No I 'm not dreaming ...but this I will say That tonight in my bed at the end of my day I will lay down and dream of a wonderful thought Of all the young children that all I have taught Then all of a sudden my eyes opened wide To the ring of my clock that shook me inside Yes again I have dreamt and again I will say Can't wait for my bed at the end of the day
