Best Monarch Butterfly Poems

Monarch Butterfly

hanging from the foliage
in your hundreds
repainting the leaves
in bright shades
of black and orange
with your waterproof
gossamer wings
of four inch span
so fragile and
yet so strong
enabling you
to journey south
across america
from canada to mexico
breeding new generations
as you travel
thousands of miles
with unerring accuracy
to the exact place
of your birth
to breed
a new generation
that will initiate
the process for
the return journey
to the north
in due course
you are indeed
the monarch
of butterflies

Dedicated To: Joe DiMino

An ultimatum flight giving fancy, to monarch wings
of beauty and grace.
Towards the blazing sun she travels deep
into the bowls of heaven, a fearless painted lady
etched *gold *orange* red*, with a touch of black
She becomes a chiaroscuro angel, a Monarch of lace.
Such utter perfection that even Picasso cannot duplicate
Ignorant of endemics of earth her soul is a warrior
through and through, she flies on and on ...
like a Monarch of old to the moon and back she goes,
espying every private room of angels and demons alike.
When God gives you your final ultimatum dear friend,
I pray that you choose well and like the Monarch,
you will choose to go where He leads you,
without ever asking, why ?

Majestic wings flutter in the air
over sweet blossoms that waft perfume.
Nodding heads affirm there’s nectar there
as a proboscis probes each new bloom.
Rays of golden sun paint velvet wings
clad in exquisite prisms of light
harboring beauty reserved for kings.

Bronze pastels are fringed with spots of white
uniquely applied by Nature's brush.
Terracotta orange wings take flight
their beauty causing flowers to blush.
Each butterfly’s an instant delight
richly ornate and regal in pose.
Fragile creatures that have little might
like a breeze, they go where the wind blows
yet seek milkweed wherever it grows.

Monarch butterfly, how majestic, how iconic,
Monarch butterfly, how beautiful are your wings of yellow and black,
You fly through the air with strength and ease,
Yet without a guide, only your inner GPS, to guide you along,
Monarch butterfly, we pray you are not without a home.

Monarch butterfly, we are all in awe of you,
Your gentle wings have touched our souls,
The will to keep going to your flowers for nectar,
We are here waiting for you to return to us,
We love seeing your soft spoken breeze, kiss our cheeks with your good luck.

Monarch butterfly, we are here waiting for your flight home,
We promise to plant milkweed, so that you can be fed,
We know when your come to see your special space,
That our loved ones gone before us, have come to say "I love you".

Majestic monarch butterfly, we will be here waiting for you to land,
Thank you for showing us your endless beauty.

Monarch Butterfly

I am the monarch of the sky
can outdistance by the miles
every insect, every time
heavy rain or bright sunshine
like a fearless horse I run
in the heart of boisterous winds
like a skater coast and glide
in my effortless cruising style
beauty queen of butterflies
smooth and waxy my chrysalis
green and gold heavenly spun
into a diadem to behold
a green drop of dew my egg
like a flower on milkweed stem
birthing life in green and black
golden gilded for contrast
curious strong alone I fly
gliding vales fields
and mountains
from lowland Louisiana
to skyscrapers Colorado
though alone all summer long
in the fall I flock along
with a million more to fly
for two thousands airy miles
on two inches of wings fragile
tracing shapes of butterflies
fluttering satin color clouds
beating chords of air so softly
into an incredible audible sound
of few millions wings in concert
greeting morning in Chincua forest

I see a beautiful monarch butterfly
Gliding up in the backdrop of sky
Widespread wings caressed softly
By the sun and kissed by the wind
Arresting beauty of the universe
In the fleeting geometric pattern
Suspends me in numb awe

I see the complexity of life dialectics
Moving smoothly from one life form
To the other through reincarnation
Of one being passing through stages
So extremely distinct and separate
So uniquely uniform and wholesome
In one passionate attempt to reach
The perfection of lightness of being
Expressed in the pattern of wings

A tiny egg at the edge of a leaf
Of an orange milkweed hatches
Into a hungry caterpillar that is
Focused on eating and storing
Energy of leaves sun, and wind
Like solar panels equipped with
Tesla batteries absorbing sunrays
And converting them into energy
Of life then hanging itself on a branch
Upside down like crucified Peter
Slowly transforming into green
Magical shell that guards miracle
Of inexplicable transmutation
Happening inside steadfast cocoon
Where a caterpillar’s sleepy form
Mysteriously being transformed
Into a totally new living being
With one primary genetic ring
Holding the secret of life
Around which magical wings
Painted in arresting ornaments
Striking colors of stripes and rings

Butterfly emerges one morning
Out of the shell that she was confined
And flies into the blue open skies
Does it remember any of her past stages
Or each time she starts from the scratch
And sees this world in arresting awe
Over and over again as if she
Has never seen it before
Just like we do every time we are born?

Orange and Black wings
Spreaded by the elegant
Monarch butterfly
Seen in an afternoon walk
After a showery day

What a glorious sight as you flit about on your gossamer wings!
You visit me each day and, Oh!, what pleasure to me it brings!
Welcome to my humble abode, please make yourself at home,
As you sample sweet nectar from my flowers and visit my garden gnome!
You wintered in sunny Mexico and I envy you for that my dear friend,
While I suffered blizzards in Colorado of which there seemed no end!
'Tis awesome that you flew so many miles to return to your favorite haunt,
Guided by The Master Compass Who safeguarded you during your jaunt.
What a sensation of angelic breath you impart when upon my hand you light!
Thank you for the beauty you add to His Creation for my and others' delight!
Godspeed as you begin your journey south, you've brought me so much cheer,
And I pray that you or one of your offspring will visit me again next year!

When I'm lying wrapped in sunshine, discreet I've tried to be. Eager to see your black trim and golden flickering wings. My heart tries to keep a slow steady beat each time I've tried to reach and touch your wings.

golden daffodils
in silence butterfly flit
indulge sweet nectar

A monarch butterfly in flight looks so beautiful
Unfortunately, there lives are ephemeral.
For a short time, they are grounded as a larva.
The caterpillar transforms inside its pupa.
Bursting from the cocoon, they spread their wings.
Few thing found in nature are like these things.

A Monarch Butterfly

A monarch butterfly flew past.
I wondered if it was the last
‘Cause they are disappearing fast;
Our world will be much grimmer.

For climate change and pesticides,
Plus loss of habitats besides
Means we are taking giant strides
To make our days much dimmer.

These orange beauties did appear
Like clockwork every single year.
Their loss should make us shed a tear,
With hope, a measly glimmer.

Monarch Butterfly

Beautiful monarch butterfly travels across the sea
Beyond water, beyond abstract, beyond destiny
He is spellbinding in his majesty
He is the definition for what it means to be free

Some poet wrote that because of its stupidity the butterfly
Across the ocean will try
To fly
And loose its way as it cuts across the azure sky

But I believe certain butterflies can cross the ocean
They are well adapted to aerial locomotion
They are symbols of divine devotion
They have purpose in crossing vastness of the ocean

Like butterfly crossing ocean ethereal mists are crossed by human soul
When to reach divine is its goal
In some ways life is designed by a full and like butterfly the soul can fall
But there is a path from every point of view endless that will rise when others
would fall
