Joining the Pieces

Sometimes we sit alone,
quiet, trying to figure
out who carried a piece
of us with them, as we try
to put ourselves together again...

I wish to weave my veins with yours, like two rivers joining their destinies under the eternal sky,
to let my blood flow through the corridors of your craters, carrying with it a song of life,
to drive out the deeply embedded poison, to show you how it is to breathe without the demons that tear at your silence,
like shadows that have hidden too long in the dark corners of your soul.
I wish to open your ribs like the gates of an ancient temple forgotten by the world,
to extract your heart, scrape away the accumulated pain, and place it back, purified and reborn,
still beating with the force of a universe, still yours, but stripped of the shadows of the past,
a symphony of beats singing of a rediscovered love, pure and eternal.
I wish to unveil your skin like a map of memories, to replace your scars with my fingerprints,
so you never forget the touch that brought light where there was only darkness,
like a gentle wind that erases the traces of the storm, leaving behind the peace of a summer rain.
I wish to pull the demons from your throat, to throw them against the walls of this fortress that is you,
to watch them beg for mercy, as they dissolve into the shadows of the night,
like beasts that have stolen too many dreams, disappearing into the oblivion that has long awaited them.
But trust is not something I can give you out of the blue, like an elixir of lost hope,
you must open your hands, let fall the blade you've held like a talisman,
until your palms remember how to bleed, how to let the pain go,
and to receive the light that will envelop you in the warmth of an endless morning.

Joining In the Christmas Spirit

Christmas songs of joy and laughter to be heard

Heard inside people’s loving warm homes of Joy

Joy to join the holiday spirit, but I'm out here tired

Here tired of seeing the snow fall and being alone

Being alone outside in crystalline white snow

Snow path of wet snow flakes from the rising sun rays

Rays melting the deep white snow that glimmers

Glimmers of diamonds, silver tinsel, and green wreaths

Wreaths I wear decorated with ribbons and lights

Lights aglow, tree bought with perched red robins

Robins gather on branches flew me inside

Inside where children at play and I can be

Be a Snowman Christmas tree in a rightful place

Place to see everyone uplifting cheerful warm smiles

Smiles of joy when wishful gifts they open

Open with holiday spirit on Christmas day

Premium Member The Joining

What does it mean to engage? For me it is the complete commitment of purpose and emotion, the desire to participate. Once something is engaged it propels one forward. In this case an engagement propels two people forward. In the process there is a joining of families and their hopes and dreams for your future.

Let me share what some of my hopes are for you. My hope is that you will not travel through life alone. That you will know what it means to be loved in a way that matters. A substantive love, a love infused with laughter, a love that pushes you towards and beyond your dreams. I want you to be happy, but more importantly I want you to grow. When times are difficult (and they will be) I want Harleen to be the person who will be there for you. The two of you also don't have to face life alone, by joining together you have added to your family. Now that you are engaged we too are also engaged. We are engaged in the common purpose of supporting you both and making this the experience you dream of. Beyond your wedding we are engaged in the common purpose of supporting your relationship. You are both special and your lives matter. This wedding is but one of many joyful moments we will share with you both. Please everyone, raise a glass to the future. May it be twice as good as you hope for and half as difficult as you imagine. Most importantly may it be filled with many moments like this.

We are happy for you both and look forward to your wedding. We also look forward to watching your amazing lives unfold. You are loved beyond what these words can express. Congratulations and a big hug.

Love
Rick

A little something I wrote for our son's engagement party. We are very proud of the man he has become.

Joining

People join together to be part of something bigger;
Working next to others can infuse our veins with vigor.
Keeping to yourself is fine, but then you are deprived
Of camaraderie, which gets our eagerness revived.

A book club or a quilting class, the army or marines,
The P.T.A. or Rotary or pool league that convenes,
A dating site or any place our numbers make us strong;
It’s fun to flock with others, well-aware we do belong.

We sign our names or pay our dues or even make a pledge
That we will follow all the rules; our bets we will not hedge.
And then we proudly claim to be a member of the tribe,
Adherent of the practices to which they do subscribe.

Though lots of folks fly solo, many more link with a group,
Becoming an ingredient in some delicious soup;
For adding to the broth, we each bestow our special spice
And often, that’s a recipe for something mighty nice.

One Plus One Is Two, Joining Hearts Like Me and You

Mixing two things will create
Something new that's really great
Yellow and blue will make green
And an outside pretty scene
Purple comes from red and blue
Growing violets==rare and new
Pink is made from red and white
Lace is a soft pretty sight
Two more things can mix together
Two lonely hearts bound forever
In one happy and sweet place
There's never a single trace
Of pain anywhere or time
Two hearts with a long love line
Formed by mixing two great things
Wedding vows and golden rings
A warm outsides serene and quiet
Hair decorated by nice violets
Pink lace all along a dress
Matching hankie in his vest
No scene could be quite as nice
Than two hearts joining for life

Premium Member Joining the Dots

Attempting to join the dots
we tie up ourselves in knots;
later try to untangle,
these barbs that scar and mangle.

Instrumentalising thought
we rest in silence, self-taught,
letting go of doership crutch,
enabling knowing by touch.

One with universal mind,
wisdom of another kind,
definitive, free from doubt,
deep in soul, clear truth does grout.

Joining Hearts

Joining Hearts

Melodies of love
bring lonely hearts together
to love and cherish

dreams and love whispers
in the flaming summer night
you have me trembling

fly with my desire
and hear my heartbeat echo
you warm and tender touch

Premium Member On Leaving

unjoined lips parted, breathing with a sigh
flowers stand for hours to undo
proving only the softest of petals
to brush a young cheek blushing
all vision lost this throat no worthy vessel
to release the stars to make a universe
where doves still dare not fly
still air fading Into night eyes become shunted
with the bending of the light
all sound an echo of two souls become a mirror
me becoming you to closer be
not grasping, releasing
not gasping, breathing
forsaking all the world for your touch
I cannot disappear and still exist
the finest line between
your shadow and our kiss
summoned by your gaze
my eyes see everything
my lips un-parted speak in kisses
deep enough to fill all oceans
all words could ever be
your lips my lips your heart becoming me
I disappear in you
emerging into life anew
unchanged this shameless Shaman
dancing to Heaven’s fire
with whispered sounds of background life
piercing softly deep beneath the edge
of wisdom’s knowing knife
bleeding out to disappear in you
so willingly would I become that which you create
forsaking life for truth, forsaking life for beauty,
forsaking all for this mad, sad cryptic moment
missed by all beheld by none
but now the bell tolls freely
as time renews the moment
and I must take such bitter pill, my leave.

Joining Hands Across Time

First night in his final place
My dad called me weeping
“Please Bobby bring me home.”

His skin like ice cream
Melting on handle bars
Plopped in his wheelchair
Square
In the center cone of an empty room

Plaster cracked
A single nail
Where a clock once hung like a moon

He said, “They won’t tell me what time it is.
I don’t know what time it is.”

I hung his hat on that abandoned fish hook
Bent to his knees
Took off his shoes and massaged his feet
Re-storing the bait of heat to his bones.

“It’s nearly midnight Dad.”
The best time to sit beside a lake
With a fire flirting on the lunar water
And Aristotle fishing with balled up bread.

My Dad, once a boy floating famously on his back
Away on Lake Gogebic
In an afternoon polished by copper miners

To now, a lifetime later of sailing a Butterfly boat
Through two-footers on Torch Lake
His worn hands joined with his boy’s creamy hands
To a rope slipped through a pulley
Tightening the sail against the northern wind

Creating more speed and angling the boat almost to its side
Flattened to the lake
Our bodies standing up
Face to face
To the white sheet pulled and taut
Over the nose and chin of the choppy waves.

Later that night and forever more
My cell phone chimes like a clock
Every quarter hour
Shaking on my nightstand
From Dad’s new land line.

New Heart Joining Poetry

I find myself writing once again,
With the empathy I show to myself – just recycling.
Every day adds another to the past,
I keep telling myself; enjoy the good in life while it lasts.

Why do I write – why do I share?
They read – they listen – but do they care?
Is poetry my escape to find those who understands?
Is there somewhere… someone wishing upon a similar soul to hold their hand?

The Joining

A Castle could be seen

through the trees

Nestled in richest green

The trees

became a meadow

The Castle filled with Faerie song

I turned to Moondust

Kissed her gently

and said….

Here is our place

Here is where we belong

Faeries flocked forth

to see the Faerie Moondust Queen

with her Aquila

emerging from the forests

of richest green

Darting lights glowed

The horses’ soft eyes

reflected

Everything there was to know

Of meadows of fresh grass

and streams of sighs

The joining of Aquila and Moondust

In the Great Hall

was seen by everyone

For, such love, between two

 seen by all

Its’ powerful force
Of hearts

Entwined

Aquila looked upon his Moondust Queen

Dressed in velvet green

White star flowers in her hair

Such love welled from within

Soft amethyst light shone

For here was the place

The reason

Of everything

The Joining of Heart and Soul

(10/13/12)

This floor I will no longer see
For I’m getting up off my knees
I’ve grown tired of being put down
Degradation is a heavy crown.

I looked up towards the sky
And my soul was soaring high
It was “ beckoning to me”
To let me know that I was free.

My heart jumped with pure delight
As it gained strength and took flight
The two reunited as before
Because we had the keys to every door.

Now that we was ONE again
We knew our strength would never end.
Door after door I unlocked
No more looking at the clock.

Time was no longer standing still
It was bending to my will.

She asked me how much I loved her
So I started to count
She asked me what I was counting
So I said the units would mount
She asked me the worth of each unit
So I said a million pounds
She asked me what I was counting
So I said the freckles she has
