Bedroom of Doom

A child shrieks on darkness’ edge
For fear of what’s within the black
A tense reaction, shivering too
At thoughts of something to attack
But no, there’s nothing that so comes
Yet, child cries and prays for light
With blanket pulled above the brow
He does his best to cope with fright
He fears the coming of the night
And prays that all will turn out right

His eyes so close before the dawn
As sleep prevails and fear subsides
So stretching then on morning’s wake
From the bed, he leaves to rise
The fear he had was but erased
As light had won the battle well
With feet then touching on the floor
A new fear came and then he fell
As talons clawed, he met his doom
The child had never escaped his room

What Colour

What Colour?

What colour are the oceans?
On warm summer days the oceans are crystalline blue, with bright streaks
Of ivory flouting on the crest of each wave just before it crashes down
Into total oblivion!

And what colour are the mountains that enkindle a dying sun?
The mountains are bright red, like a burning ember in the flame
Of fire off our multimillion mile star, as it slowly dips to rest
Till the morning!

Oh what colour is a new born child?
A child holds the beauty of youth in colours that span the years of its parents
Age, until the greying colour of passing seasons takes away the child in us all.

And what colour is the moon above us?
In late fall the moon flickers in shades like lucent charcoal as it slowly cools,
Then turns to black!

What colour are our hopes, what colour are our dreams?
Nevermore are our hopes mixed in the colour of our dreams, for in wake our
Soul equates the mind for a second then is gone.

And what colour stands for the worth of our lives?
The motionless quiet waits silent, bound between colors more radiant than our past
But still more mysterious than our future

Space

Looking up at the sky in the middle of the night
Gazing through my little scope, the stars shining so bright
Fascinated by the sparkle of the bodies so divine
Dreaming wistfully for the day I would hold them for mine

Growing up as a child wanting more than ever
To find out all about space in my endless endeavor
Unlocking the secrets of life inscribed by time
Revealing the answers to the past opening the future sublime

I close my eyes and imagine rising higher and higher
Leaving this world somewhat sad, in a state so dire
And though shivering as the cool breeze caresses my spine
Yet excited as a child for the treasures I will find

Then I ascend as if carried by an invisible hand
Opening my eyes to the dark emptiness so grand
My heart flutters awestruck at the expanse of it all
I look around incredulously, feeling worthless and small

My eyes wide in awe at a sight so grand
Like a flawless painting by the Creator's own hand
The sheer perfection displayed in the order of things
Creating life, consuming life, every minute that brings

Overwhelmed and dazed, I hold my breath
Hoping yet knowing that I will always regret
That though one day we would traverse the universe
I will be long long gone and just a part of this earth
