While You'Ve Been Gone...

while you've been gone
I've been so sick
a virus a cold the flu, URI,
who knows but sick enough
to be home three days
fever cough running nose
buckets of tissues and very little sleep
today I dragged myself up and had a shower
ripped the sheets off and soaked them
the clean ones brought me to
went outside in the sun for a while
(forgot it was July, I was feeling like January)
the dog so happy I was up and around
he is not happy when Mama's down and out
you'll be home in a few hours
at least our room doesn't smell sick now
and you can rest
although
my sore nose, no makeup, tissue box and all
I'm sure you'll have a nice welcome home
on your mind.
I can't wait to see you.
I'll let you do the talking
when I talk, I cough, so its all on you.....

Your shoulder's there to lean on
When the troubles come by twos
And your happy sense of humor
Can soon chase away my blues.
Proud fan of my small triumphs,
Fierce protector when I fail,
You sometimes walk a bit ahead
To give me an easy trail.

Because I've never had to doubt you
Nor to fear you've been untrue
And because you seem to need me
Just as much as I need you
Are some reasons I adore you
And am happy you are mine
And am sending this reminder
That you are my Valentine.
