In a black morning, hollowed
with eggshell delicacy....not fragile, simply gentle
with dark chocolate skies
a pajamaed, sleepy ten year old
with a six year old's excitement..
up at five a.m....with his basket ready
to search out candy eggs
A dew kissed morning, the blossom of an Easter sunrise
which rises to greet a family....a father, a mother, a brother, a sister
a house blessed with a spirit of His presence
so richly apparent, in polished shoes, combed hair, Sunday dress
In hard boiled colored eggs, chocolate rabbits, jelly beans..
baked ham, scalloped potatoes, fruit salad, homemade shortcake
assorted aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents...
Being allowed to eat his candy
providing he ate
at least
one piece
of broccoli.
We all gathered for the Easter egg hunt.
Big kids in back little kids in the front.
Then all the grown-ups hid the eggs.
Under the door all we could see was their leggs.
Homemade candy and cookies, cakes and pies
There was one golden egg it was the prize.
We hunted for as many eggs as could find.
All different colors and all different kinds.
One for the girls and one for the guys.
This is the day we gather to find the prize.

Short but sweet.
Form:
Most women on Easter Sunday
Morning wear festive and elegant
Bonnets to match their bright
Dresses; men wear lighter, sharp
Suits with cheery feeling, not the
Usual dark ones that are so
Depressing and their neckties must be
Perfect! Coming out of the church in
Throngs, they seem brides and grooms
Again...chatting and smiling at one
Another, knowing that He was,
Risen and gone to Heaven to
Prepare a place for them and their
Children...shouldn't they rejoice
Today? And sitting at an exquisite
Table they say Grace, while Easter
Eggs and bunnies tempt them with their
Lively colors and sweet smell! Even the
Dogs and cats hide underneath the table for
An unforgettable, delicious dessert!
Entered in Brian Strand's Contest, "An Easter Picture"
In front of Jackson's candy shop
Looking into its window
Designs of Easter eggs, rabbits
Wrapped in bright foiled colors
Ah purple, green, yellow, pink
And all in such abundance.
Mouth so waters at the scene
Eyes glisten at its wonder.
One large so rabbit
Dressed in foil of pink and white
And on its head a purple flower
Its size almost reached the sky.
Hollow chocolate eggs
With springtime scenes its view
Easter baskets filled with goodies
One better that the other
But none as pretty as the rabbit.
If only I would get
This rabbit the biggest one of all
None other!
Easter morning I awoke
And to my big surprise
There stood the treasure of my eyes
It seemed to wink and smile
I kissed the foil of pink and white
My heart felt warm and fluttered
Dare I remove the cover, such beauty?
And taste its delicacy
Carefully I so opened
Its pink and white attire
Closed my eyes, took a bite
Its taste was sweet divine
Oh my it lost its feet
And inside, sad to say
The rabbit it was HOLLOW!

Like a yearly gift
In sweet remembrance
Lilies bloom for Him
Incentives to look to the cross
Eternal life promised
Surrendering to His will........
