Best Give It Up Poems
Our stay in the
mushrooming subdivision
Ashley Springs
can achieve full ownership only
by meeting the developer’s
latest requirements...
six bushes and two deciduous trees,
keep your garbage can in the garage.
Such restrictions have put the whole
neighborhood in the throes of unrest.
Gears are clashing even as I write.
To sully the community spirit
in this way evokes emotions which
attempt to sidestep legality.
We more flexible newbies,
about thirty in number now
are pitted against
the established oldies
who could grandfather out of some of
the constraints based on length of residence.
Solution? It’s our property now!
Mr. Developer. Your raw power gains nothing
by the forcing of personal preference.

out there in our world
there are brilliant individuals
whose minds are incredible,
awesome & inspiring,
bearing thoughts, ideas &
theories, which many of us
wouldn’t be able to fathom
if the thinker her/himself
sat down at our breakfast table
& spoon fed it to us
like we were good little Gerber
babies.
there are funny wo/men out
there also,
who with one quick quip or
deliberate body gesture, facial
contortion or humorous act
which may up to this point have
no definition at all,
are able to tickle our funny bone,
sending us into a fit of
laughter, which may very well
create pain in our gut or
cause us to fall right out of our
chairs.
unfortunately it is the case that
seldom do these two vital human
qualities exist within the same being &
when you come across someone
who possesses both,
your jaw might drop at the same time
you begin to quake with an almost
violent
guffaw---
this writer does feel that
Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson fits the bill.
Dr. Neil can captivate an audience---
armed with a comforting smile,
razor sharp wit & pure down to
earth sagacity,
in just over an hour (maybe less)
he can take those who held
absolutely no interest in Science
whatsoever,
and with an uncanny ability to weave
the most wondrous & complicated
descriptions of what goes on in the
cosmos,
with jokes & anecdotes
in a communicative way that does not
have an agenda,
outside that of education,
he is able to turn on whole crowds
to a love of Science!
and once you see him,
you won’t be able to get enough---
you’ll watch all the youtube lectures he
did,
and you’ll read all his books &
the whole time,
you’ll be learning things
which had they been brought you
by someone else,
you might have just been bored listening,
or ignored outright.
though many good intentioned smart
wo/men
will do their best to convey
all their research &
they’ll do so with all the compassion that
they can muster,
how unquestionably important it is to
have someone like Neil
bearing as much communicative talent
as he does sheer intelligence,
so that he might continue to
illuminate the world,
showing his own love for what he does &
what has always interested him,
so that he may pass it on,
igniting further amazement in us all,
so that so many break the chains of
religious dogmas which have
kept their eyes & their minds
shut & closed for so long!

who do you think you are, acting all brave?
by getting rid of me, there's nothing to save.
try to searate us, if you dare,
with your pointless attempts, we wont care.
you cant stop love, even at its earliest form.
if you try, you'll get lost in the storm.
how can you stop me with all this distance?
why bother trying with all his resistance?
your words aren't wise, your threats don't scare me,
I'll continue to fight until you see.

I gave up myself
to be you
I watched myself go
vaporize into the wisp
where dreams go and your life
dies
a hard death
give up
its done
its over
yes
I can be you
i can be anyone
its the secret you find
midlife
when youve crossed the line
between
possiblity
and no chance in hell
so you might as well
sit on that barrel
on that porch and just
give it up

Cute baby clothes I say.
Weird that you have ten thousand blue things and only one pink item.
I always wanted a girl, she said.
Kept that onesie around for years, hoping.
Twenty-eight years of marriage, but now
I have finally decided to give it up.
Her eight boys laughed.
They were 15, 16, 17, 19, 20, 22, 23 and 25.

Light Verse
I'll never forget what you've said
I think you don't care
but that can't be true
It's real
but we can't do anything with it
I try to keep it alive
but that isn't fair
I need to let go
I say the same thing over
and over again in my poems
what more can I say
I'll regret this forever
I know that
I want to say that I'll move on
but I don't really want to
I still repeat myself
I'll stop writing now
