I love you most of all
when you’re at your very worst
as you do me
Clematis petals die in June-
hope buds a second bloom

Out on a Sunday grocery shopping,
heading for the dairy department,
out of the corner of my eye I saw,
the back of a very tall leggy blonde,
She must have been 6'2" tall,
with her muscular legs wearing high heels,
her knee length dress was a pretty green,
she turned around and I thought what a scene,
Because it was actually a stubbled guy,
with make up on even on his eyes,
the other shoppers took it all in stride,
like he/she was a regular shopper all the time,
But I couldn't help but curiously stare,
as if a blonde Bruce Jenner/Caitlin was there,
when he/she walked the dress swirled,
in my Walmart upside down shopping world.

and, what lies beyond their skin?
placid lake bares all...
It’s a giant bird
Second look, it’s a young girl
A thrilling third glance
It’s actually an angel

Here’s a warning alert
for all you children of the babblers,
who stand unrepentant
in your high faluting tower
The Son of Man is coming back,
soon returning again
And He’ll be sitting
on the right hand of power
If you haven’t been watching,
if you ain’t been praying
Do disregard this dire message,
then it goes without saying:
No need to do a double take,
you won’t see the Messiah coming
No sense in trying to hide,
all holes closed for rabbit running
In that holy, fearsome day,
say to the rocks: cover me
Crawl on the belly and say
to the dust: hide me, please
Children of the babblers,
build high your proud tower
Only to be brought down low,
your evil works cast to the wind
For the Son of God is coming back,
sitting on the right hand of power
When the clouds of heaven blow,
that will then be your destiny’s end

From win and lose and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all”
These words stay as time may allow
I've looked at life from both sides now
So ignorant over these years
Those lyrics now bring me to tears
The original song survives
Yet the poetic lyric thrives

Like low hanging fruit on the bough
Perhaps with age it makes more sense
In my youth I must have been dense
With deep respect I take a bow

There’s a woman I pass in the mornings
Who prefers not to nod a hello,
Not unusual for a New Yorker;
That’s the way that these things often go.
She seems close to my age, but walks slower
And her clothing is baggy and loose,
Unlike most of us out there with leggings,
Which she’d likely not wear, I deduce.
Yet this morning I passed her and noticed,
As I swiveled for a double-take,
That her t-shirt was very familiar
And quite certainly not a mistake.
For it once nestled, folded quite nicely,
In a drawer with the rest of my tees,
But I’d donated it to the thrift shop
Where I bring things that no longer please.
I was glad to see somebody wear it
Who’d appraised it with different eyes,
Yet I wondered why I hadn’t kept it
As an exercise shirt in my size.
When the bend in love
becomes a break
When the hold
slips the fingertips
and memories forgotten
Cant see me in you eyes
looks that you ought not
To have
Nor to hold
For no days forward
My death
if you part
Smile at you lovingly
Just cant
let you see
that i know
you dont look
the same at me
