Sad Hearts: a Poem of Truth

She came to visit quite often
A girl much younger than me,
I was there when she was born
And gave a party when she turned three.

She was always at my house
As a teen I watched her weep
When she sat at the kitchen table
And stated"This baby I can't keep"

At the age of twenty
When she married the wrong man,
I tried to be her best friend
And said "I understand."

Then at the Christmas party
When she was twenty nine
I was there when she passed out
From drinking too much wine.

I noticed most days after that
Her eyes were full of tears
I held her head when she got sick
From drinking too much beer.

Just tonight she called me
She had important words to say
"Guess what" were the words she used.
I've been going to AA.

Her heart was truly breaking
But she said the time has come,
I want you to be proud of me
Because "I Love You Mom"

The Cross

The young man worked quietly
His Dad had been away,
But he was full of emotion
His Dad would return today.

He had carved the wood with perfection
His Dad would be so pleased,
His Mom helped him gather daisies
In the warm September breeze.

The limousine pulled in the drive
The boy saluted the men,
They handed him his country's flag
He felt his heart would never mend.

The velvet box passed to his Mom
As they bowed their heads to pray,
Thankyou for our soldiers
At home, and far away.

That young boy is a man today
And he still feels his loss,
As he watches his son pick daisies
To lay beneath the cross.

Contagious

She smiled at him on the stairwell
He smiled at the man at the door,
He in turn said "Good Morning"
To the lady sweeping the floors.

She nodded at the passer by
Who then turned around,
And gave a smile to the little girl
Who was wearing such a frown.

The little girl started laughing
And simply passed it on
To her Mother who was with her,
Then they hummed a little song.

The painter in the hallway
Felt tired, and very blue,
Till the old gentleman said
"What a beautiful job you do".

If we would do this everyday
It moves along in stages,
When you smile at everyone
It truly is contagious.

Coffee With Jesus

I have coffee with Jesus
Yes, of course I do
My coffee is on my night stand
And I speak to him of you.

I tell him of past events
Of how I let you down,
And how are one time closeness
Has shut completely down.

I ask for your forgiveness
When I spoke of love for you,
I never meant to hurt you
Speaking only words of truth.

There is a coldness in our chatter
As we discuss the latest trends,
We speak about the weather
And this is where it ends.

Yes I do have coffee with Jesus
I need him to be in touch,
Does Jesus have coffee with me?
I doubt it very much.

Me To You

Please come and find me
You know I'm alone,
Please come and find me
So I can go home.

Have you even been looking
Between the earth and the sky,
Did you not notice
Or not even try.

Please come and find me
So I won't feel so afraid,
Have you forgotten promises broken
And promises made.

If I could reach you from here
I would give you my love,
That's too hard to do
From so far above.

If you don't find me
I will understand,
Another life time
Is quickly at hand.

Angel White

So you want to be an angel?
The good Lord said to me,
Do you think it will be easy
To be spiritual and free?

He said "I guess we'll try it"
So he sent me here to live,
He told me I would learn a lot
On how to take, and how to give.

He set up many hardships
That I really must endure,
He made sure I wasn't rich,
He made sure that I was poor.

He didn't give me good looks,
He didn't make me smart,
He just gave me the very basics
To go ahead and start.

It's been many years
That he's let me stay around,
He hasn't called me home as yet
He's seen me smile, he's seen me frown.

I often stop and think
Have I passed the angel test,
Have I done all I can
Have I tried my very best?

And when he calls me home
Sometime late at night,
Will he send me back again
Until I get it right?

Or will he let me have my wings,
My halo gold, and bright,
Will I get to wear that lovely gown
That gown of Angel White......

In Days of Snow and Sand

It was a loving relationship
Meant only to enjoy,
Never to be analyzed,
Not intended to destroy.

It was nice at the beginning
Full of warmth, and love and fun
Until the day it fell apart
In this game that no one won.

I suppose someday if we meet again
And by chance we feel there's more,
We'll spread our wings, and find the key
To open Heaven's door.

Until that day I still remain
A girl that held you hand,
When you carried my books
and walked with me
In the days of Snow and Sand.

The Medicine Cabinet

The swollen eyes are from lack of sleep,
The shaking hands she hides.
She can't remember important dates
But oh, how she does try.

The hair that once was washed and curled
Has turned a dirty grey.
And if a friend came by for tea
That would truly ruin her day.

The headaches are more frequent now,
Her attention span has gone.
She used to speak of news events
And what the government did wrong.

It's called her medicine cabinet
And she checks it every day
In the corner of her basement
Where her hidden bottles lay.

Sometimes she feels so very ill
She decides to make that call,
But the line is always busy,
Into bed she trips and falls.

A new day finally does arrive,
Her routine is now a habit,
She walks slowly to the basement room
And sneaks a bottle from the cabinet.

Lake of the Woods

LAKE OF THE WOODS

As I sit here gazing at my view of this magnificent lake I feel inspired, and simply genuine as a human being.

It is a cool April day, very sunny with a more than gentle breeze coming through my window.
The brown grass in a few weeks will be anxious to turn a velvet green after a little
more heat, and many more raindrops.

The birch tree beside my window is patiently waiting to produce its foliage
It is a peaceful time, and a gentle time on this late Saturday afternoon.
The seagulls play in the air and welcome me to their view.

May nothing upon this earth interrupt God's beauty of this place, and may the serenity of Lake of the Woods forever rest in peace.

My Hometown

A gentle breeze cools this sunny day as I sit by the river. My heart aches for my yesterdays', I am visiting my hometown. My old friends stop by, but not long enough for my satisfaction. I am filled with love for this place, and for the people who live here.

My roots, my childhood, and most of life's hard lessons I learned living on this river. It is my solace, my comfort, and makes me feel complete.

They say you can never go home again, I say it is the only place on earth where you can go to feel life, love and true friendships.

Let me return again, and again.....let my family always be there to love me, my friends be there to welcome me, and a small part of heaven be waiting to bless me.

A Simple Little Tree

I remember when they chopped my down
And placed me in a truck,
They told me I'd be happy
And I was definitely in luck.

I was told I'd been chosen
To give some girls and boys,
A very Happy christmas,
And on my branches would be toys.

I was to have lights of red
Green and yellow too,
Lots of sparkling tinsel
With ornaments of blue.

I felt quite excited
Of the job I was to do,
They placed me in a window
So my bright lights would shine through.

On the very top of me
They placed a shining star,
I felt I must look beautiful
Standing straight, and standing tall.

For days and days they loved me
As they brought their friends to see,
Every day I heard from them,
We love you Christmas tree.

I knew when I was very young
I was planted for a reason,
I knew I would be picked someday
Just for this festive season.

The children do not notice me
My job for them is done,
I over hear them saying
Christmas sure was fun.

They leave me in the darkness now
I'm no more a treat,
Tomorrow I heard them say
They will toss me on the street.

My days upon this earth are done
But with sun, and rain you see,
In the forest where I lived
There grows another tree.

And next year when you chop it down
I hope that you will see,
To plant another in it's place
A SIMPLE LITTLE TREE.

Grandson

He was ten years old this year
Although he's not around,
He didn't get to play,
Or to hear a single sound.

He didn't know of laughter
And he never read a book,
He never saw a sunrise
Or played beside a brook.

He new nothing of baseball
Or exciting hockey games
He never had a chance,
And he never had a name.

He didn't know of Birthdays'
Or Christmas white with snow,
He didn't know when Winter comes
That autumn has to go.

In a city hospital
As the morning light grew near,
One medical procedure
Made sure he wasn't here.

Devoted Friend

He had been laying in a coma
For days, and weeks on end,
The Doctor finally said
No more can we pretend.

I think we must do something
For his body to let it rest,
There is nothing more to do
There is no other test.

He was speaking to the family
And they finally all agreed,
But a voice within the shadow said
"You didn't speak with me"

The vacant eyes of the patient
Gave a gentle stare,
The pulse became much stronger,
The brain much more aware.

The stranger in the background
Left without a trace,
No one knew just who he was,
As they never saw his face.

Miracles do happen
Every now and then,
And in the faded shadow stands,
Our most devoted friend.

I'M Not

My friend called from Arizona
Says it's pretty hot,
He sent me a little gift,
He's in Arizona, But I'm not.

My sister-in-law went to Europe
Told me to give it a thought,
Sent me a lovely postcard,
She's in Europe, but I'm not.

My neighbour is moving to the coast
For his house he got a lot,
He's living by the ocean
He's on the coast, but I'm not.

My girfriend is a computer whiz
Was always from the start,
She bought herself the best there is,
She's smart, but I'm not.

My ex- husband is very rich
Lots of things he's bought,
He drives a brand new fancy car,
He's rich, but I'm not.

I know many different people
And love they've often sought,
Not one friend to call their own,
They're unhappy...BUT I'M NOT.

Golden Arrow

He arrived with golden wings
And knocked upon my door
I couldn't wait to answer it
So I ran across the floor.

He asked if he could come inside
And spend a little time,
I offered him a cup of tea
But from the tap he poured some wine.

He asked me to come with him
And speak of love so true,
How he shoots his arrows
Into one heart that become two.

"On this special day" he said
A day for lovers' young and old,
Golden arrows shoot through the stars
Into homes around the globe.

"I have an excellent record
And do my work with care,
When my golden arrow strikes one heart
It continues on from there"

When I awoke next morning
On my pillow I did weep,
The most precious moment of my life
Was it a dream? Was I asleep?

I walked into the kitchen
Of my dream I couldn't part,
Then I saw the note that said
I placed a Golden Arrow
Into your lonely heart.
