Bagpipes

They’re mournful at a wake or when
A person’s laid to rest,
Yet there are those who say their sound
Is something to detest.

But line them up and hear them played
By marchers wearing kilts
And suddenly you see the green
And hear those Irish lilts.

Oh, it’s a joy to witness
The St. Patrick’s Day Parade
And watch the bands from every police
And fireman brigade.

The pipers always lead the way,
Their plaintive notes on high;
The green-clad crowd applauds
As all the marchers pass them by.

I wouldn’t want to listen
To a bagpipe every day,
But on the 17th of March, I’m glad
I get to hear them play.

Premium Member Bagpipes Wail

Amazing grace
Let the bagpipes play
While in blissful peace I lay
Beneath rolls of morning mist
Let bagpipes whine and wail
At the portal of my heart
Tugging at the gateway of my soul
Releasing timeless ageless tears
In supernal universal rhythm
As generations of kindred spirits
Swirl above the eerie misty morn

Bagpipe Songs

On the Isle of Skye, water runs down the Cuillin mountains into waterfall streams
It's a beautiful and tranquil place
Where the local fairies live, play and dream

A red-bearded Scotsman walks from his village
He carries his beloved bagpipes in hand
He heads to the magical Fairy Pools
To play for the fairies hiding among the heather stalks growing in the lush green land

Clad in a kilt of dark blue and green
They know it's their friend that's come to play
His emotional bagpipe songs are the only things
That make them emerge from their hideaway

The fairies love the skirl of the bagpipes
It brings their soul delight
Their tiny wings flutter with joy and elation
While they surround him in flight

When he's finished playing, he reaches into his horsehair sporran
Hanging from his waist
To feed the fairies bits of wild-grown raspberries
They absolutely love their taste

He will come back to play for them soon on another day
They love their friend in the blue and green kilt
With his beloved bagpipes and the songs that he will play

The Drone of the Bagpipes

The bass drone on the bagpipes play
The man in his kilt plays it
The misty Scottish air receives it
A constant sound
Under the melody
Always whining
Always sighing
Under lying.

In his emotions
He feels he is not good enough
His misty heart receives it
A constant sound
Hidden under the mechanics of his life
Always whining
Always sighing
Always lying.

Grouse Bagpipes

Grampie Zach got bone saw breath,
he cut tight lips no slack
"All dung buggy complaints," his wrinkled hand pointedly sez,
“Take it to the
sphincter hole out back!”
That’s the true-true

Atillicus Z
blow an elephantine pair of grouse bagpipes
Buckaroos putting on airs
don’t like the breeze
They pig methane consume-y say:
“The Owe casino grin;
Ruskie rue wheel, big rig spin,
it only cow chip payout Soylent Green gripes”

Old Doc Z
got an O.R. vapor technique —
In a non- anesthesia tone,
Grampie surgically delivers cutting-edge critique,
as his laser beam eyes focus narrowly
on the derisive object of his oral dissection
“It’s dog-eat-dog days,
son-of-a-gun canniballistic ways
Splattered morsels of morals on the dinny tray,
toilet-washed dishes served skull platter nasty”
That’s the true-true

Aged Z
unleash a secret buzz flux of
electric flow exhalation
Pure spittle damnation!
Waving a leathery finger like a wand,
with Atlas energy,
towards the boo cloud above
Casting wizened, whited wisdom, he sez,
“Dark meat
only beg get yellow teeth love,
‘cuz plaque-y smiles be belly-aching needful
And bleating heart pleas
will yea, surly receive ivory cuspid merciful”
That’s the true-true

The character referenced in the first stanza of this poem is from a movie. Any PSouper who can guess the movie, I will read a poem of their choosing. Then I will write a poem in tribute of said poem.

Premium Member Scotsman's Warmth

Bagpipes conveying the delight
Of a country filled with insight
Swinging their kilts in accord
With their song of joy, so adored
They color the world in green
Appreciating the good queen
Awakening a world to glean
~
Gaelic poetry and prose will sigh
Through the echoes of a blue sky
That reminisce with kilts so bright
Laughter harmonizing despite
The blessed stanzas and rhymes
Poems alive with a joyful times
That focuses on more than crimes
~
The Scotsman has reported the fact
That we shouldn’t ever overreact
We should keep remembering the past
History and the mystery so steadfast
Lives that knew blessings to the hilts
And hearts that liked wearing kilts
Certainly never feeling swell of guilts

The Call of the Bagpipes

The call of the bagpipes brings merriment and joy,
making even the somberest of moments bearable,
even when blaring at several decibels,
The bagpipes speak of stealth and strength,
perservering in times that are inclement,
The mirth they spew, commands attention,
and respect, bringing sentimental tears to
peoples' eyes as they remember from whence they came....

Bagpipes

He walked through the sands at Ayres,
playing a slow grinding song
of regret and broken dreams.

The moaning groan of the bagpipes
spewed bitterness and pride
in a twisted tune.

His footsteps trailed the sands behind
a steady line of sorrow
and loneliness for kin.

How many can say they love the bagpipes
Hands please, uh you over there the Plaidy type
Another that's two
A guy having a snooze
Sounds like stuff they play when somebody dies

                Near to a castle
       in the Scottish countryside,
               next to a deep lake
       looking at the blue waters
     ~the nature plays the bagpipes

Premium Member Drums and Bagpipes

Goosebumps
never fail to visit
whenever Emerald Society drums
call for a slow, steady, cadence
and bagpipers play Amazing Grace
at the funeral of a fallen hero.

Police and Firefighters
who have offered us
first, their service
and then, their lives.

Honored by those who stood
shoulder to shoulder, loved ones,
and others like me who
get goosebumps.

Premium Member Scotty's Bagpipes

Brambles surround Scotty's bagpipes
  Briars sharp, of severest types
    He thought that he could
    Play tunes in a wood
Instead of music ~ out came gripes

A tip of the hat to Jeff Kyser,
      whose poem 'Penny Whistle'
      inspired this Limerick. :) gw

Scotland

I couldn't give a toss for the caber
cromach bagpipes sporran or kilt
(a fling's the thing)
and you can stick your dirk in your haggis
up to its bog-wood hilt
yet I'd like to hike through the heather
on happy Sassenach holidays
see the scenery admire the view
along Scottish hilly highways and byways
to pick a pink-purple thistle or two
and should I come upon a hairy Highland cow
on the hoof in a friendly farmer's flink fold
(for protection from the cold)
in no uncertain terms I would declare
"I say to you, hoo noo broon coo?"
och aye no sooner said than done
than perchance from the Caledonian bovine one
the reply too true in a Scots burr would come...
'Moo!'
