Assume Nothing of Storms

For an hour
Cicadas saw at the early August evening
While thunder purrs as kittens
In the yarn of dark clouds balled up out west over Ionia County

Trees prepare their umbrellas
The Tigers on TV swing away in the 3rd inning
A good book in hand

Then out of hand
A den of lions-wind roars outside our patio window
Devours the screens
I jump back
House turns black
And our 100-year old standing friends
Just like that
Break in half no more than the unlucky draw of straws
While others are plucked like Hedgehog mushrooms
All thrown down

At dawn
Sunlight strikes of leftover lightning
Flashes through new holes punched in the canopy

I hadn’t seen the sky in my backyard for decades
But there it is
Claw marks across the laid-down lambs on forest floor

And upon the beast of me who lies beside them.

Never Assume

NEVER ASSUME*
We are told to never assume,
to guess, or to anticipate
or even try to presume.

So if we try to articulate
of things we aren't sure,
do we assume or shut the door
on thoughts we may abhor?

So don't assume, just give the facts
that you are sure to know.
And you will find
it often stumps your mind
how the facts become just so.

The facts somehow get twisted up
even though you know for sure
that you were right and others wrong
no matter to whom you implore.

That's really known as politics
when facts aren't facts and we assume
the facts are just made up for tricks.
Then no one knows for sure
who's right or wrong or just
what is the score.

One side says the other is wrong
and tries to give the true facts.
But their facts are no more true
than a fairy tale or an old song.

So once again we should not assume
to know what we really know.
Just toss it up and then presume
the facts got lost
as round and round you go.

So You Just Assume

So you have an MBA but you
felt empty at times
You have gone to school for a
couple of years
You are knowledgeable in that
particular field that you are so
captivated with
Now you sit down to lunch with
an old friend from high school
that only has her Associates
degree
You start speaking about your
thesis and the people you have
worked with
You state you have traveled to
China, Austria and England
For the whole time you're
taking not giving your friend
time to talk because you
assume
she only has an associates and
haven't done much with her life
BUT
finally you take a breath and
decide to give her a moment to
talk
and then your friend says
Well
I am currently married to a
lovely man for over 9 years
I have two lovely children
I have two businesses that my
husband and I run
We are about to set up a third
business in Hong Kong as well
I have given my life to Christ
and I am so at peace
Your mouth drop and you
realize Wow you should have
never judged your friends
potential growth over the years
just because you never stayed
in contact
You realize just because you
have your MBA and you have
traveled doesn't make you any
better than her
(NEVER LOOK DOWN ON
PERSON)

You May Assume

You may assume that I am a grizzly bear because you hear me growl. Until you see that I am merely scratching my back or singing my song.

You may assume that I am a kitten because you hear me purr. Until you see me licking my paws after a fresh kill.

You may assume I am a hurricane when you see the rain in my yard. Until you learn to dance for cleansing.

You may assume that I am the sunshine when you do not see the clouds. Until you see the fog between the sky and I.

You may assume I am the rock that is strong and never moves. Until you see a crack in the foundation.

You may assume I am the flower that gently blows into the breeze. Until you find My roots are connected to a tree.

You may assume a great many things. Yet none of it is real. For assumptions of me is your own reflection and my shadow never tells.

People Assume

People Assume

Sometimes in life, many people assume
You are guilty, guilty, guilty!
Needless to say, those people knows not fumes
Maybe they are just flaunty, flaunty
Shall we tell them to spray some perfume.

Inside their mouths, I only hope
Maybe someday they will fall on their *a**
I only hope that they need an extended rope
How can some people be so dang brass.

For they should not be so forthright
Let us not be their friends
For initially maybe they are not so bright
Maybe then people can make amends
Can we assume maybe they are guilty, guilty?
For sometimes in life, many people assume,
Therefore we will tell then to spray some perfume.

Inside their mouths I dare say
Maybe someday they will fall on their as*e*
Gladly I say, gladly I say
Maybe they will encounter many dark lasses
Yesterday, prior day, maybe today.

Then they will get their comeuppance
Eventually they will, eventually they will
Maybe they will pay with deliverance
This and every good person shall instill
Sometimes in life, many people assume
Then we will tell them to go fly on a broom.

Wrote this last year when I had to go to a work seminar.
While being there this well-known person said for everyone
To hear, just who the heck brought this loser of a native.
Being a soft-spoken person all my life, I just turned around,
With tears in my eyes and left. Not one person rose up to help me,
This I felt that these people who invited me made me cringe through-
Out my whole body. So now I really know that they were never my friends.
Wrote this when I got back home and told my hubby what had transpired.

You Assume Too Much

"You assume too much..."

Assumptions: cunning little devils, always sneaking up and
tripping up the clearest thought or the wisest head;
insinuating themselves into cherished beliefs, firm opinions
and the well worn habits of mind and body.

Assuming: convincing thinking and rationales, straightfaced
delivery of error and misconception to an unsuspecting
psyche; there to lead astray, giving form to dark despairs
or euphoric imaginations in an unreal world.

Habits of thought, their errors compounded by the
ceaseless whirl of the mind: too much thinking, too little
action, too few spoken words, a gaze too much inwards,
our inner world too much with us.

I assume too much: why then, how do I escape the
clutches of assumptions, their subtle presence hidden
from my eyes; where is the Watcher who sees and marks
the insidious self deception, the tangled web of errors?

Fight fire with fire: match devil with Fiend, sharp
witted and with keen insight, to haul up sharp my
tumbling thoughts and let some sense prevail; Oh friendly
Fiend, why I thank you..............I'm assuming that's OK?

Don'T Ever Assume

don't ever assume
when you've only seen the surface - maybe even
scratched through
a few layers -
and figured what was beyond
could only be
similar to what your mind
told you was there

don't ever assume
or listen without ears
or read between the lines
of the lines
that were
really in between the lines

because you end up misjudging
or stereotyping
and closing down your mind -
shutting all the doors
that the truth may enter
sealing out growth
and truth
and life lessons

maybe you judge
because you have all the answers
not for yourself -
but for everyone else
and feel that there are some
you can't possibly learn from

don't stand too high
and look down too far
if you do
you'll end up
at a standstill
looking only at the ground
while others
are zooming by
with their eyes on the road

Do Not Assume

Do not assume something about me that's gonna make you look like a fool.

1- I do not love no one but myself and my son.
For I find the rest are not worthy of love.
And I could also see that's why you so desperate trying to make me sick going around coming up with different symptoms.for shame of you

2- never in my life I ever get sad, not even from my parents that wasn't much of parent to me. They do not get no sadness from me.except my son

3- do not assume I am miserable for life is happier with just me and my son. You just a outsider tainting with lies and tainting our life.

4- do not talk to me about the blame game.for as you can see everything was fine until you invaded.

5- do not assume that I am depressed. for honestly I do not even know what that is or feel like for I am to busy making you some one that is not worthy in my life.

6- nothing makes me sick in my whole life, it will never happen not even towards my son. I noticed how you desperate creating sickness. but yes am just sick on tired of you trying to make your life matter. By using me and my son to feel good about yourself.

7- I see the game you play, a pathetic freak that like to steal from native people the way it was done to the native Indians.

8- you stole from me and my son things that will never be yours.as you can see nothing of mine and my son will never be part of your life, just like Cinderella her shoes was made for her and her only. Oh by the way every thing you stole/extorted from me are documented items like myself. So you lose as always.

9- what you stole from me won't be part of any children life style either from you trying to play the act of a fake good Samaritan keep in mind those are my things you stole. For shame
You remind me of my father & mother.

10- you may or may not like me and I do not care. For you are nobody to me not even good enough to stare.
- I know by now I probably hurt your feeling. This is what you get for assuming. Only if I could of make this page long for there's more.

Those Who Would Assume -- Trevor Depugh

Dear God, life is sweet and kind,
Older Brother makes me smile all the time,
He speaks of days yet to come,
His dreams make me feel less numb,
I love him, like I've never loved another,
And they are fools, those that think he is more than just my brother,
It is nothing more than our bond,
Our friendship others will not smother,
One day we may abscond,
Run away from our families,
I know what it sounds like, but God, you must believe.
He is not my lover, nor would he be ever,
He is just my brother, this is no romantic endeavor.
He just makes me feel special,
He doesn't ever judge,
This is something to revel,
Not something to begrudge

Always Assume

I live
where the other world meets reality
Always Assume

ignoring, staring
at blinding glances of sun rays

I die
alone in a crowded room
echoed stress
deafening what’s assumed

Assume wrong
and wrong you will be

Assume long
and think of what they see

Assume strong
and read each body note

Assume gone
and despair overruns hope

Free Cee a Bride a Groom With Room To Assume Weep For What Happens

A BRIDE A GROOM WITH ROOM TO ASSUME

All of us inhabit a restrictive rectangular room
Believing love is most assuredly what we all assume
Cubicles with questions as wallpaper and errors are a rug
And that’s when an obviated obsession becomes a lethal drug

Love is this or love is that
Love too oft becomes old hat
You do that and I’ll do this
Yet born is boredom with every kiss

Missionary becomes a mission of mind
Oh heavens no, nay from behind
Marriage means missionary and not much more
As both partners are chafed by chagrin for such a mindless chore

Up and down, then in and out
What the hell is this all about?
In and out, then up and down
And that’s when the word “f*ck” becomes a noun

Two car garage and garbage midst trash
No seven year itch, it’s rather a rash
And there stands a bride with her white-tailed groom
Both believing love is just what they assume

Assume We Survived

let it be known that these are uncharted waters.
let it be known that this is a backwards wreckage at sea, where i save myself before the ship goes down,
where i only realize i’m sinking when i’m well past dead.

let it be known that this isn’t a tragedy.
this is the moment before the clouds crumble into something grey and ugly,
the moment before the thunder and the lightning make way for the rain,
the moment where i learn this is more about the aftermath than it is about the storm.
this is more about the reconstruction.

this is about the debris and concrete left on the ground,
so assume that debris means my body and the concrete is my heart,
assume that i’m still picking the pieces up.

for my own sake, i assume that this will take a while.
but a project isn’t a project unless you’ve got your blood in it,
and a project isn’t finished until you’re bled dry,
so please assume i’ve only got a pint and a half left and that i’m running on empty.

assume that this is the end, but don’t believe it’s over.
there’s more heartbreak where this came from,
but there’s always healing in its wake.

assume it’s there.
assume it’ll find you.
most of all, assume it’ll sink its teeth into you and never let go.
not until you’re bled dry.

Premium Member Never Assume

she was taken by surprise as she reached a pinnacle of confusion

rather used to hitting the wall this time a mirror blocked her way

‘back to square one’ it seemed to suggest but edgy as she was

it mocked her because she was used to running in skewed circles

whenever an obstacle loomed and there were too many to brace for

‘surely a curved ball reflection’ with magnification and highlights

of the hardship and irritation that had followed her many shadows

‘multiple personalities’ they said but she preferred creative contempt

had struggled with lateral thinking but decided to look at the frame

to halt for a moment from restlessness and in built deconstruction

something began to shift and teased her to inspect the hidden rabbet

bevelled surrounds might level her attempts to crash again in terror

although anger and paranoia had always been perversely comforting

and she was aware of the dangers of rising to futile levels of hope

curious with nothing to loose though she gathered a last bit of courage

tools of efforts were blunt and rusty she had been screwed for too long

and no stretch of imagination could have prepared her the surprise

at first she thought that she had stumbled on a safe full of treasures

a pot of gold maybe or ancient charted conveyance of how to proceed

instead she walked through a secret passage and never looked back

Assume

WHEN WE ASSUME?
WHEN MAN ASSUME TO ASSUME THAT THE SUPREME BEING HAS ASSUMED HIS POSITION
MAN ASSUME THAT EACH DAY IS ASSUMED TO BE DIFFERENT BECAUSE OUR MINDS ASSUMED IT
WE FOOLISHLY ASSUME THAT EVERY MISFORTUNE EVOKED UPON US WAS ASSUMED BY OUR FORE-FATHERS TO PUT FEAR IN OUR ASSUMED HEARTS
IF THE LEARNED ASSUME THAT CREATION WAS ASSUMED TO HAVE COME BY LUCK AND BEFORE MEN THEY ARE EXALTED
BUT I CAN PROMISE YOU WHEN THEY LIE SIX FEET IN THEIR GRAVES THE ASSUMED SUPREME BEING WILL DEFINITELY ASSUME HIS POSITION AND CAUSE ENDLESS PAINS TO THEIR ASSUMED HEARTS
WOMEN FALL VICTIM TO PAINS BECAUSE THEY ASSUME THAT MONEY IS THE SOLE KEEPER OF SOMETHING ASSUMED TO BE CALLED HAPPINESS
LET’S WALK DOWN THE LANE AND FREE OURSELVES OF EVERY ASSUMPTION BEFORE WE CAN LIBERATE OURSELVES FROM THE ASSUMED TRUTH BECAUSE THE TRUTH IS COMING HOME TONIGHT
THIS POEM WILL BE ASSUMED TO BE FULL OF LIES BY THE LEARNED WHO ASSUME TO BE THE SOLE KEEPERS OF KNOWLEDGE
BUT I TELL YOU MY MOTHER WHO IS ASSUMED NOT TO BE LEARNED WILL BE INSPIRED TO KNOW THE TRUTH I SEEK
I AM ASSUMED TO HAVE ASSUMED ALL THESE WORDS I WRITE
I TELL YOU SONS OF MEN THAT IT TAKES MORE THAN ASSUMPTION TO KNOW AND SEE THE TRUE BEAUTY OF FAITH
