United States of Europe

The following poem was written by me before Britain joined the European Union and possibly reflects the view of most of our citizens both then and today!

United States of Europe

Another day, another dollar,
Funny things we British say.
It's the 'Pound' we use in Britain,
And it's always been that way.

Soon it may change to a ‘Euro’,
If we join with nearby lands.
Sadly they don't speak our English,
Those who offer us their hand.

While I like my nearby neighbours,
I can't see the reason why
We have to share in common money
Just to keep our prices high.

I would rather change to dollars,
Least the language stays the same.
We could then still count in English,
Just a simple change of name.

Tell me where our kinship nestles,
With our offspring or our friends.
Why this struggle to be partners,
Just to follow other's trends.

I know that all the souls within us
Are not different... not at all!
Why not then a world wide money,
Would the Bank of England fall?

But to choose a bigger Europe
When we don’t see eye to eye.
Seems to me a little silly,
Rather like a firework pie.

Now I’ll stop my mindless ramble,
Spend my ‘Sterling’ while I may.
Not just money, independence
Is the price we'll have to pay.

Ivor G Davies

Please also note the capitalization of each line of poetry which is the way I was taught and is normally evident on most of my earlier poetry.

p.s. and we've paid the price!

A Sideshow That Freaks

A crazed, dazed unexplained side show that freaks. What did we just do? Who knew, the few true, would prove to be me; and you? In shape we fit to form; like the shoe. In step we go toe to toe. As we set sail off the dock we began to row. From here to Tim buck two, the news has been spread. A wire fed buzz, music stuck inside your head. Without reason or cause. Lost in frenzy of locked jaws. The channel is the change. No home out on the range. Supernatural reaction of self satisfaction. It's dog eat dog in this life form contraption. Unable to define the infinite. The string cheese is an incident. Leaving a lasting impression as people come and go. Fair is the weather my friend, I'll see you at the show. It's no holds bar, a fight to the death. If your waiting for the miracle, I wouldn't waste a breath. I creep on stealth; I'm light on my feet. To avoid the contact, with the stranger on streets. A taco truck drives by and the fire engine sounds. I light up a smoke and out come the hounds. The city is the life and this is how we live. Another day another dollar, homeless asking us to give. The sites that we see, as we tour this. We are just visiting this life like a tourist. An excursion; short lived like a fur-low. It's suggested that we go with the flow. We make the most of the little things we appreciate. Make room for the love and weed out the hate. A master of disaster in this episode or chapter. Another piece to the puzzle that ends happily ever after. We flock towards the it crowd. To be a somebody who's proud. Egotistical tendencies close the mind. Open your hearts and who knows what you'll find. As the world turns, our wheels keep spinning. We learn from our mistakes. This is only the beginning. It's not easy to explain; this may last day or even weeks. It's a crazed, dazed, unexplained side show that freaks.

Love Is Free To Those Who Partake

Another day another dollar I've heard this expression many times Another day another day of love Would be much more appealing I find Love is free to those who partake The ultimate human expression Without the ability to share one's soul The meaning of life is in question If one day suddenly wars all ceased Not sure we'd all know what to do It's so ingrained in the human psyche War machines would have no use What a glorious time that would be Idealistic I heard someone say Perhaps but long as we still can dream All things are possible today So I'll end this little dream of mine By saying to one and all Love is the key to a life of contentment You'll feel more than ten feet tall © Jack Ellison 2013

Tick Tock Tick Tock

Tick tock Tick tock

Life fly’s by in the blink of an eye
Rush to work to watch the clock
Tick tock tick tock
Rush back home to start all over again
To tired to stop and enjoy the moment
Tick tock thick tock
No time to play, no time to waste
I must do this, I must do that
Time to sleep the day is over
Tick tock tick tock
Life fly’s by in the blink of your eye
Another day, another dollar
Before you know it your life is over
Tick tock tick tock
Your life has pasted you by; your kids are grown and out on their own
Your home all alone
Tick tock tick tock
I should have done this, I should have done that
Nothing left to do, nothing left to enjoy
The kids have all moved away
Their on a clock of their own
Tick tock tick tock
What will be my out come???

Cliche

What doesn't kill you will only make you stronger,
And we all know how absense makes the heart grow fonder
and they say its soo much better loved and lost than it is to have not loved at all

This apple a day to keep the doctor away
diagnosed with honesty being the best policy

Somebody's been stepping on my grave
chills dance on my spine
I'll tell you not to say anything at all if you can't say anything nice

Every nemesis has it's rival
Exercising the fittest survival

Forgive and forget the situational ironies
Kids are cruel
keep making faces and it will stay that way
with what comes around goes around
reminder that what comes up had to be down

Back to the grindstone
another day another dollar
Enslaved by money the route of all necisarry evils
are the genrlemen and scholars
Chained to their re
Their white
and their blue collars
