walk softly in
rest your weary head
and listen...
the same
rhythm
pulse
current
flowing unforced
unguided
unimpeded
uncontrollable river
that is flooding my soul
flows through my veins to your heart
do you hear? the surge
the rush unhurried
the life force that flows at the pace it must go

Accepted to medical school
Too old but in the entrance pool
Where is the back door?
There's my dorm with a drawer
Since I’m a cadaver quite cool

I had hoped there would be a 50th class reunion for my class of 67.
Instead, I got word the other day that Aggie High is closing its doors.
For four years, I was taught by some of the finest teachers in America.
For four long years, I filled your library, classrooms, and walked your hallways.
I was challenged and succeeded in math and was greatly inspired by my Biology Classes. I was arrested and captured, moved and mesmerized, by my charismatic History teacher. I even listed on your honor roll and sang in your very respected and talented choir.
I moved away 50 years ago and unfortunately, I have visited you only two or three times since. Just a few months ago, I was privileged to dialogue via telephone with my Art teacher's wife. Perhaps he knew of your coming closure, but he wasn't home to inform me.
O Aggie, I am sadden by the news, but I have come to understand such matters. O Aggie, it's interesting that you have joined a long list of changes and closures in my life. It's also interesting that things I once thought would be history, instead are now current events. Furthermore, it's interesting that, like many of my past acquaintances, I always get little warning.
O Aggie, all things have beginnings and endings, but know this: you have been a launching pad and a gallant educator, rocketing many of us to the stars. What you have instilled in us is forever credited to your account. You have fought a good fight, and your course is near the finish.
My eyes are getting watery Now. So I must cease and desist, lest my proud and tender memories of you get the best of me.

Ode
Poetry...the primary inevitable response to tyranny
- Daniel Berrigan
Clear water running in the spring creek, flows
from every newborn's heart. Around the bend
coruption pollutes our thoughts with consumerism,
paths of mutual destruction and madness
modeled on the nightly news.
Still, the pure well in our hearts runs deep, frustrating
the robber-barons of our souls.
Food we eat, politics we endorse, come under
increased scrutiny as truth refreshes.
Pinnacles of power topple as their pawns
resist in ever increasing numbers.
Manufactured enemies (self-sourced) created
to control history by providing security
from fear are now seen in the light of day
as what they truly are, enslavement.
Arm-in-arm, hand-in-hand
people are waking up to to their inalienable
rights to freedom and liberty for all.
The time is now to stay vigilant, neo-cons
increasingly will create rolling disasters, meant
to ignite fear only they
(by our abjudication of freedom and liberty)
can resolve.
Never waver, never relent, peacefully
resist.

Vembadi, my Alma Mater
On day one, I stepped into school tearfully,
In school uniform, clutching my bag nervously.
Miss Barker appeared! I gazed at her fearfully,
Her foreign face scared the native lass tremendously!
Miss Barker, the disciplinarian, and her walk daily
From Lower to Upper School, we’ll never forget.
The great lady, with her methodical ways,
Our last foreign head, guided our school skilfully!
We learnt to read, write and count effortlessly,
But faced tests and exams anxiously.
We took part in sports and games snappily;
At break times I ran out with friends happily!
Miss Mabel Thambiah, our first national Principal,
Succeeded Miss Barker calmly and unflappably.
She steered the school at all times marvellously,
Specially in the turbulent takeover years!
Our teachers worked so painstakingly!
With improved knowledge and manners, we prayed daily.
The years flew by, our schooling ended quietly,
And I stepped out, at seventeen, gallantly!

Higher learning in Iran we know
Is sometimes about long ago
Their school's short on praise
It's name starts a blame phrase
Which is ''Ayatollah U'' so!

Limerick
Alma was a Barracuda, married two times four,
she knew the game, she played so well and never failed to score.
So, when the chance came about to scam a naive Sailor,
she knew she had to do her best to take the drunken whaler.
He told her she would make a fortune taking care of him,
for when he died, there was a prize, though all that seemed so grim.
Alma did not blink an eye or even hesitate,
she took the deal and lead him home to wait, and wait, and wait.
For years he kept on living, amazing her each day.
He must have been one hundred on the eve he passed away.
She shuffled with his papers, searched long throughout the night.
At last, she found "The treasure" to her unashamed delight.
For there upon the table, an envelope did lay.
The seal was stamped, it looked official, she was finally on her way !
She opened it to see her name, her time had come around.
Alas, She was not mentioned on the paper she had found.
For years she'd taken care of him without a word of scorn.
But in the paper came a photo of a tiny, pink, newborn.
To her dismay, she turned it over, this is what she saw,
shocked, she read the note outloud in disbelief and awe.
"To Timmy. my dear and only son, I find myself ashamed,
that never have I seen you, nor given you my name."
"To you, I leave what all I have, you'll find it all recorded,
to only you, no exception, it will be awarded.
It's at the lawyers' office, not far down the street."
"Forgive me son, my sad regret, we will never meet.
P.S. Avoid Ole' Barracuda Alma, all smiles, a greedy type,
She'll snatch the gold out of your teeth, if she thinks the pickin's ripe.
Alma ranted, then she raved,
she cursed him in his cold, dark grave.
He fooled her once and cheated her right to the very end.
"Oh well", she finally whispered,
"There's ALWAYS time for me to find a very new, best friend !

I miss your beauty and splendor:
The sun that pierces through your greenest trees,
Dreams that were born within your premises;
The great books I devoured within your precincts.
Shall I ever set my foot their again?
If so, shall I find the same books I loved?
Will the friends I made within my short stay
Forever impact upon my life the same sweet way?
I miss you Moi University my alma mater,
Moi University, the place I gathered vast knowledge,
The place I discovered the meaning of great learning.
There, a piece of my soul dwells.
Few such hospitable places a mortal rarely finds,
And its breeze elsewhere you never can chance;
The beautiful geishas that roam your streets,
The bearded scholars that walk your corridors,
The spectacular scenery, the gorgeous neighborhoods;
All these and more I shall forever miss!

Frio En El Alma
Dale paz a
mi alma y derite el hello do mi corazon. ven pronto
ayudarme y dejame sentir tu amor.
soy yo?
Probable mente seas tu - probable mente sea yo. Demos un paso
asi a delante a la paz. quieres que empiese yo,o quieres empesar
tu?
Lo importante es que empesemos por amor a Dios y se acabe
este frio en el alma que hay entre nosotros dos...

Lake Alma Hills
(near Weyburn, Saskatchewan, 1969
People are born here
And people die
Some live scarcely more
Than a shadow existence
Mere
Specters
Tossed about
In the speechless wind
And sand that
Sweeps across
The uneasy and lonely
Beauty
Of
Lake Alma hills

!No me ves! Ha perdido mi alma,
Alguno lugar en la escuela,
Posiblemente en los libros gris,
O en armarios que ha guardan
Los cuartos antipaticamente.
!No es verdadero! ?Por que, en
El lugar que estudiamos
Cosas preciosas, perdimos la
Que amamos la mejor del todo
El mundo? ?Puedes me decir por que?

I Remember Alma
She sits in her favorite chair
Beside her is her remote for the television
Letters dating as far back as two years before are-
Strewn out on the table next to her favorite chair
She decides to do a little cleaning-
She goes into her bedroom- where the dresser overflows with old mementos-
She stops as she remembers where each piece came from-
With a smile on her face- she decides nothing must go- so she dusts around them and
sweeps and mops the floor.
She then goes back to her favorite chair- looks at the many papers spilling over the sides of the table-
She straightens them up a bit- satisfied with her handiwork-
She sits back- sighs- picks up the remote for the television-
Points- turn to her favorite program- and surmise how good life is-
If only she was still here-
