Malibu Girl

You fit perfectly in my arms
I fell victim to your charms
We shared a loving season
Living free without a reason

My Malibu girl,
you took my heart for a whirl
My Malibu girl

Our little place a top floor attic
Too young to hear the static
The more we took the more we gave
Young lovers learning to be brave

But the summer came to an end
And the love was too young to defend
As the bus pulled away I saw your face
The moment froze my pain in place

Someday I will find your heart
And hold you close never to part
Together in the Malibu we’ll ride
And forever you’ll be at my side

My Malibu girl,
you took my heart for a whirl
My Malibu Girl

Windy Monday Mourning

The sun's face a shapeless grey
In my heart I know it has to be this way
One less child now I hold an open space
Not tears or shame or sadness can replace
The not knowing and distant feeling
Now replaced by the road to distant healing
From moment to moment the jagged line
Between I’m okay and I ‘m doing fine
Cuts through the lies to find the story
Where no amount of saying I’m sorry
Can turn the tide of a mother’s pain
Or stem the tide of sobbing refrain
The days pass by in a blur of why
Did he have to choose this way to die
Was he trying to make me feel his loss
Or just prove to me that he was boss
No matter because he left no sign
Of his desires or his design
Just a clutter of life not even half spent
And sordid traces of messages not sent
Few friends came to hold his memory or say goodbye
It was like they knew that he wanted to die
And they let him feel his way to the fall
And crush his life in a final heed to the call
Now we hold the empty frame
With no pictures to put with your name
And beg for another story to tell
One that doesn’t end up in hell

Prisoner of My Mistakes

Just before the sun sets
The soft pain of too many regrets
Slowly filling the deepest part
Dragging down my beating heart

Once young and foolish days
Passing quickly like setting sun’s rays
Leaving scars in a struggling mind
Always searching eyes that never find

Like melting ice my strength fades
The mirror’s image truth evades
But no amount of telling story
Can ever pay or say I’m sorry

Time moves forward and back
We seek and travel with the pack
Knowing shelter not alone
Let the others set the tone

No slack in the tightening band
Our daily masks we have donned
Dance the tune we never know
Fight to survive and not to grow

A prisoner of my mistakes
No way to tell the fakes
I guess my way through the day
No choice but to stay
