Lazy steam climbs from paper cups
Mornings drip slow, thick with silence
Numb fingers curl ‘round warmth and wait
Overhead lights buzz, half-awake
Pauses brew peace in bitter sips

Elegant spirit shining ever near,
Now celebrate with happiness sincere,
Every good wish throughout this coming year.

After All These Tears
By Bernard F. Asuncion
The night begins to fade away,
disappearing into the dark;
The dusk vanishes into gray,
as the twilight starts to depart.
The raindrops now refuse to fall,
heeding not the rugged weather;
The black clouds never hear the call
of the storm brewing in the air.
The dawn savors the morning dew,
enjoying the beauty around;
The flowers show the sparkling hue
that springs from the productive ground.
The sun signals the shining light,
bringing warmth to the heart and mind;
The rays energize with their might,
as the lost strength is there to find.
The sky above aims to repel
the throes, the sorrow, and the pain;
For the world to be sound and well
because of the relief to gain.

A mother is a source of strength,
A symbol of faith, hope, and love;
She just endures the journey's length
With the help of the Lord above.

A niece is just like a daughter
Who always asks for an advice
From her uncle, from her father
Whenever confusions arise.

Happy birthday, dear Marjorie,
The moon suggests a serene sound;
The firmament's light is starry
On a clear night viewed from the ground.

Happy birthday, Princess Nicole,
It really takes years of study;
The good student's primary goal
Is to get a college degree.
