In my linen closet
There are sheets that go way back.
In going through them, I have made
A quite imposing stack:
The brown and orange flowered ones
Of hippie-ish décor;
My husband’s, used to cover
His old mattress on the floor.
Our first set as a couple,
With bamboo boughs, colored peach
And all the rest on shelves I need
A ladder just to reach.
My kids’ twin-sized cartoony ones
Or those with baseball themes;
The extra-long sheets for the dorm
Which held some college dreams.
It’s finally time to winnow down
All those we haven’t used
In many years and which to ditch
I’ve up ‘til now refused.
I’d heard the ASPCA
Accepts old sheets and such
So they will find another home –
I will not miss them much.
Yet still, I’m sad to see them go
But I won’t be too vexed
Because I’ll have to face the fact
The towels will be next!

Caveman preps for dating female mates
As he puts on fresh skins and pelts
Caught that day since everything was free
Oil from animal musk still ooze from pores
(To allure the delicate gender favors)
Killing prey is not exactly PETA friendly
ASPCA might have something to say
Millions of years hence so not to worry
Cave men speak Ugh which is short for ugly
He is going clubbing with his handy stick
Nowhere near Fifth Avenue I'm sure
A not so delicate creature blinks at him
Smiles from the bush with perceived approval
One bonk on the head is all it takes
He drags her by the dirty knotted hair
Back to his cave to live forever more
As husband and wife in ancient splendor
Life was simpler back then

ho ho ho the bus drive nothing to hide
a little dog in the window
of memories to tell the sadness of nuff
I am here tonight to show the trick
of society or the spending not afforded
by the puppy to be send back
as teary eyes ask you to dole a save
for a tee shirt forever stain by greed
of a pay check and a kill
