Coming Down

Pebbly scree slides and crabwalks
inside a dim dunk of fog.

The cragsman should not have climbed,
should have waited for the sky to clear its eyes
but anxious to reach a height that day
he took the Arimathea way.

Beat and disorientated,
falling down while still upright,
the press of a remorseless momentum
marches stumbling feet
toward an unseen cliff face.
Only this vaporous fear
swirling out of an open mouth -
a chill wraith invading every thought.

Beyond the funk
numb ears dimly hear someone
following.

Boot heels wedged into the rocky scrabble,
sitting now on the cold stones,
the climber waits to be rescued
by a more clear-eyed self.

Low Winds

Pebbly scree slides and crabwalks me
inside a dim dunk of fog.
I should not have climbed,
should have waited for the sky to clear its eyes
but I was anxious to reach a height that day.
I took the Arimathea way.

I’m beat and disorientated,
falling down while still upright,
feeling a momentum sliding me over
an unseen cliff face.

I see only a vaporous fear
swirling out of my open mouth.
The chill hand of fate grips.

Beyond my funk
I hear someone behind me

Sitting on the cold stones, boot heels
wedged into the rocky scrabble,
I wait to be rescued by a more clear-eyed self.

Resurrection

Resurrection

By Betty Harp Butler

Roman Soldiers crucified Him-Jesus Christ, the King of Glory.
He died on that old cross to save us from our sins.
O, What a wondrous story!

Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, who came to Jesus by night,
laid Him in Joseph’s own tomb.
They rolled the great stone in place, on that dark day, Friday afternoon.

On the third day Sunday came, and Jesus arose from the dead!
The Grave could not hold him, and
He came forth as He had said!

“Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” John 2:19 KJV

AMALGAMATION OF THE RICH AND POOR

Who was this poorly dressed in nails and thorns?
Who was this richly wrapped in aloe and myrrh?

Secretly, Joseph of Arimathea, discipled by Him,
and Nicodemus in the dark of night, questioned Him.

These two, who must have believed, even loved
the condemned, cursed, crucified — together

they touch...selah...the dead body...selah...wrap
Him with linen cloth (perhaps the cloth had covered

a scroll of the law) The riches of this burial...of the poor
...selah...seventy five pounds of spices...important men

...humble and gentle. They laid Him in a tomb cut for
the rich, for a king perhaps. They honored the sign…

Here lies the King of the Jews. Whose body wrapped
with strips and spice, left on a cold, dark ledge...JESUS

But…not for long...selah

Can You Forgive Me

Forgive all my attempts
To make you a magician
Coming to you in dozens of time
Like a musician and an artisan
At times like a comedian.
A true art of chameleon in religion clothing
Approaching you only for assistance
Never making a remittance but
always giving you the remnant
Even on that i failed to ruminate
But act like a ruminant
I used every instrument of the
mathematician (that on tithe)
Neglecting all your epistles to the
Corinthians, Ephesians,
Philippians, Colossians.
Especially, the one to the Thessalonians.
I omitted the acts of the Apostles
I did not take after the act of Joseph of Arimathea.
These portray the true heart of a politician
and not a Christian.
Forgiveness is a decision
Forgive and forget Is a household song
How do i deal with the incisions?
To be safe from infections and perversions
That leads to perdition without neglecting my
friends affection and persuasion
That is the nub of this notion
Only by your injunctions and inscriptions
It may be by information for reformation
I can make the right corrections
I must reach perfection
O Lord can you still forgive me?
