*****Freedom for Cubans!*****
Under Communism's cold rule~
My heart knows them well!
As their teacher, they showed respect!
The most outanding ethnic group,
Whoever put me on the front page of the
Cuban newspaper.
To keep me in their Andersonville area school.
They were so very outraged,
“MAESTRA ROMiOS,” the large block print said.
I was never so greatly honored.
A protest was planned at the Chicago Board of Education!
They did not want to lose me!
They were successful!
Cubanos, my friends forever.!
I will not let our government ever prevent
You wonderful people, the opportunity to
live here.
You are part of the American Dream!
Dedicated to the Cuban Commumity in Chicago.
“I will do what it takes to have you getting here.
Will not stand for you being forced to live under
oppression by our government..” PR

Those young, clear bright eyes,
hands over their hearts.
Saying the Pledge of Allegiance
on a fragrant Spring morning.
The sun shining through the golden
shades.
Scents of Lake Michigan to add to the
glory of the day.
To be a seventh teacher at the great,
Lyman Trumbull School, was a gift beyond
any diamond in a box.
Youngsters with youth, joy and souls so
beautiful, always made my each day...
a splendour in special ways.
Full of jokes and practical tricks, we all
still learned and shared together.
Amidst a class of mirth and much
youthful laughter.
.
They asked me questions that
made them part of my tapestry of life,
forever after.
Each day was an adventure I would
love to relive, but only can remember.
Those children blessed my life and
by their humility, taught me the joys
and dignity of humanity.
No humungus pay, did I ever get.
But I should have paid them for
what we discovered together.
Those days in Chicago Public Schools
in Andersonville....
A sparkling rose quartz memory pendant,
I shall cherish and with love, remember!
Even on the coldest nights in December!
