Horn Music
In the late forties and middle fifties
horn music and military marches tunes
were often parlayed in the town's park
and we lived nearby and bore the brunt
of this noisy music
to complain was not easy as the music
was seen as an expression of freedom
chasing the German army out of our
cherished country, admittingly with
the help of the Russian army, the
British took the credit
Horn music is simply horrible to enjoy
the noise one has to be unmusical
one would think the noise had stopped
with the arrival of modernity, rock and roll
and Elvis Priestly, but no
I was invited in the eighties to read a poem
in Oslo. When my turn came to read
the horn orchestra struck up.

Politics, sport and religion, I refused in public to debate
But now that I am Late
I never rated Mohammed Ali as the greatest pugalist
Admittingly he could swing a good fist
Margaret Thatcher as British Prime Minister in my soul still leaves a burning
As she said more than once, the lady’s not for turning
To even comment on black, white, muslim, Hindu or any race or creed
Would put me standing in the shoes of the racialist indeed
So now that you have all read the things I wanted to say when I was in the room
Do one thing out of respect for me and get your muddy boots off my tomb

Don't put me on call
No, no, no, I'm not begging sentiment
All know, just, engaged ago a day
Expectation and wishes flushed from within
So, do not put me, please, on call today
This is a version of mind, admittingly
And requirement of always, for all men women
All know so begging for same as culture
Avoid my need for day to day
Honey moon educated me for the course before
The taste of event ensured without ampire
That was the game of, previous job was
Now, no need to make further excuses
So, before blaming accept intense of situation
My leave, for tie, if not appreciation
Not asking weeks' absent for this
Merely, put aside for on call to day.
