Giants creep through disguised as trees.
Tiptoeing by the ancients asleep underneath.
A deep slumber echoes from the ground.
A blanket of silence filters the sound.
The mist rolls in and the forest takes a breath.
A crow takes flight and comes to a rest.
This mossy rock becomes my throne
In the center of my newly found home.
My spirit wanders, and I wonder,
What could ever pull me under?
The dragon raises his lazy head.
The cave has collapsed and the knight is dead.
It is all a battle to stay afloat.
To be the one with the strongest boat.
The storm rolls in and takes us all.
Some of us are likely to survive the fall.
Footprints fade along the shore.
The next adventure begs to be born.
Breathe the frozen air and let it burn.
Stitch together the pattern of what we have learned.
Roll the fabric and put it away.
They are just maps to treasures within my brain.

Adapt to the stars.
And eating rocks on Mars.
Try to be a little flexible.
And let space dust take its toll.
Adapt to driving a car.
And swinging a golf club far.
Maybe you’ll learn to cook salmon.
And cut your own hair like they do at the salon.
Adapt to roller skates.
Adapt to the way perfume dissipates.
Adapt to learning French.
Adapt to falling asleep on a bench.
There’s not much to do here on earth.
Except give everyone else a wide berth.
I could learn to cook them a fancy dish.
But that would not be my wish.
Adapt to having your pinky toe cut off.
Or having an endless cough.
Having a bee living in my shirt sleeve.
Who whispers about a man named Steve.
If anyone out there knows,
How to hold an awkward pose.
Or juggle a pile of vegetables.
While balancing on a three legged table.
Adapt to the stars, they said.
While you lie in bed.
While you dream about becoming someone new.
And learn to change a tire on a car that is blue.
Adapt or else no one will listen.
So I better get to fishin’.

Grief doesn't know how to tell time;
and sometimes, the gaping hole
that Death left in your heart,
refuses to heal.
And your pain remains
as fresh as it ever was;
an unbearable ache,
that never dulls.
But you adapt;
living the life
your friends urge you to;
grieving a memory,
while suppressing unfathomable pain.
Your stubborn side
convinces your emotional side;
that your pain
will never go away.
And you feel broken
beyond repair;
wounded to your core.
Nothing else really matters much;
anymore.
Grief fuels the pain
that burns within your heart;
and those flames are eternal.
And will burn until the two halves
of your severed soul reunite;
and once again, you are made whole.

change comes---
and whether you like it or not
you either “sink or swim”
you either find a way to walk in rome
amongst those romans
or you drift beneath their
feet.
the trick is to adapt to your surroundings,
whatever they might be
&
to make use of everything at your fingertips
not forgetting who you were before you came
to this new place
but not wallowing in denial
thinking that the you before
is the best
you
and there is no way in hell that you need to improve on
anything.
by adapting
and making our new surroundings part of
ourselves
we grow & progress
becoming stronger individuals
who cannot simply be
swept underneath the feet of the other romans.
instead, we command a new light amongst them
a hybrid of something new brought to the forefront
within our own acknowledged new contexts
as well as something which we ourselves
have added to what we now dwell in---
a synergy of self-discovery,
as well as the discovery of our self
by those outside us---
who are equally enriched by our
presence.

The sun rises
as will it set
The tide goes
as will it crash against the shore
Things change for good
as will they for bad
They will change
all we can do is make the best of it
And adapt
as we always have
