Vegetable Garden Does Not Make Smiles For Me

Purple conical blooms lure bumblebee
Foxglove trumpet flowers scent that please
Vegetable garden doesn't make smiles for me

Weeping Willow with grace lures so artsy
Under which lies Butterfly Bush which tease
Purple conical blooms lure bumblebee

But in the vegetable garden foresee
Sweat, toil in heat but food that heals disease
Vegetable garden doesn't make smiles for me

On trellis adjacent pale pink rose see
Just a dewdrop, but not on Butterfly Bush with base
Purple Conical blooms that lure bumblebee

In the vegetable garden no Sweet Pea
More flowers for me and food plants decrease
Vegetable garden doesn't make smiles for me

All I see toil, sweat no trip to the sea
Please do not let the flower garden cease
Let purple conical blooms lure bumblebee
Vegetable garden doesn't make smiles for me

The Mirror

			The Mirror

I met myself today, not that many years away.
A most arresting sight; it filled me full of fright:
My mind in disarray, all my senses, gone astray.

Every hour come what may, planning meals for the day.
Checking locks. Are they tight? Checking clocks. Are they right?
I watched myself today. not so many years away.

Only driving in the day. After dark I lose my way.
Hardly hearing, blurry sight, nothing seems to taste quite right.
All my senses gone astray, and my mind’s ... in disarray.

Searching for each word to say. Can’t remember yesterday.
Bathroom visits through the night, cursing til I find the light.
I heard myself today not that many years away.

Talk about childhood days, no matter what you had to say.
Both my knees rusted tight, can’t get up with out a fight.
Bent and frail, drawn and gray, everything’s in disarray.

Do I need this P.O.A. Deeds and wills seem OK
What about a funeral site? Who will give my last rite?
I asked myself today: “just how many years away?”
While visiting my Dad this past Father’s Day.

Villanelle for Health Care

Nothing supersedes health maintenance;
Thus, the evolution of instinctive defiance --
Save for man and his brainy protuberance,

Which clouds the r-complex beneficence
With infinite, self-centered arrogance, meanwhile,
Nothing supersedes health maintenance.

Dino-birds navigate with magnetic reliance,
And sickness is fought without aid, in silence --
Save for man and his brainy protuberance.

Detached from colonies of microbial sentience,
Oblivious as we consume and covet experience,
Nothing supersedes health maintenance.

Where six-legged ancients toil with exuberance,
Even cub-killing toms can't escape consequence --
Save for man and his brainy protuberance.

While parasites devour with horrific preponderance,
Why must we mimic their cold appliance; knowing,
Nothing supersedes health maintenance --
Save for man and his brainy protuberance.

My Mind a Pit

What is her name tell me what is her name
I am searching for someone I once knew
Everything is nothing and life's a game

And this is no longer easy to tame
I am burdening I know it is true
What is her name tell me what is her name

Her eyes have grown weary and I to blame
I try so hard with strength to find a clue
Everything is nothing and life's a game

She's worried and I don't want to bring shame
But soon there will be nothing to pursue
What is her name tell me what is her name

This disease now a notorious fame
Someone will be approaching soon but who
Everything is nothing and life's a game

She is here now she approached through the frame
Progress has not been made what do I do
What is her name tell me what is her name
Everything is nothing a life's a game
