MY GARDEN

My garden is such a colourful sight,
with pretty roses and scented sweet peas.
An abundance of blooms, what pure delight!

Beautiful butterflies gently alight
on flowers dancing on the summer breeze.
My garden is such a colourful sight

Sweet night scented stocks abloom at midnight
their aroma is always sure to please.
An abundance of blooms, what pure delight!

Carnations in purple, scarlet and white
are visited by busy bumble bees.
My garden is such a colourful sight

A haven for birds I watch them in flight
they alight on peach blossom from the trees.
An abundance of blooms, what pure delight!

Pretty pansies smile in clay pots so bright
I love beautiful flowers such as these.
My garden is such a colourful sight
An abundance of blooms, what pure delight!

The Other Side of Winter

(A Villanelle)

The winter’s dismal path is long and gray,
a never-ending march of cheerless dark
with skies whose colors bleach in dull array

where forest scene gives one a true display
and leafless limbs provide a raptors' park.
The winter’s dismal path is long and gray,

and through the open grove a new ballet
of life and death beneath the brittle bark
and skies whose colors bleach in dull array.

A wind unites with rain while leaves decay;
each limb begins to dance a graceful arc
in winter’s dismal path so long and gray

till snow appears and hides the hunter's prey.
New scenes occur of softer landscape mark,
tame skies whose colors bleach in dull array.

Resplendent white now blankets to allay
our thirst for beauty with a lustrous lark.
The winter's dismal path is long and gray,
with skies whose colors bleach in dull array.

Christmas Snow

On wings of swept sky, the dawn’s sun adorns
the shimmering snow in magical light,
from winter’s first snow on snug Christmas morn.

Innocent faces gleam, old are reborn
as fanciful flakes seem to rise in flight
on wings of swept sky, the dawn’s sun adorns.

Powder settles, softening sharpest thorns
as spring’s flowers sleep beneath drifts of white
from winter’s first snow on snug Christmas morn.

Oh, joyous wonder, no past years to mourn!
The hills and trees sparkle like child’s eyes bright,
on wings of swept sky, the dawn’s sun adorns.

Our gifts are unwrapped, the day’s all but worn
and festive flakes frolic well into night
from winter’s first snow on snug Christmas morn.

Through frosty pane, we watched peaceful day born
with glistening nature’s brilliance in sight.
On wings of swept sky, the dawn’s sun adorns
from winter’s first snow on snug Christmas morn.

BEAUTY OF MAGICAL FOREST

• * ) Forest of stars all clad in jade Varnishing buds with hints of cream, As magic weaves through sky’s brocade. * Lucent veil lifts trance of nightshade Garlands tossing my hair, agleam Forest of night all clad in jade. * Leaves dancing, O wings on parade Butterflies reel to catch my dream; As magic weaves through sky’s brocade. ~ Tinsels from grass drip to cascade Such loveliness cruising downstream *Forest of stars all clad in jade. * * Then, pixies dart on rock’s glossed shade My breath enthralled by stardust beam; As magic weaves through sky’s brocade.~ * *) Homeward bound, tasting mystic glade Fey whispers like child-like hours' dream. Violet Ladyslipper

A violet ladyslipper’s seed did fly On tropic breezes to cold forest’s womb Her hidden beauty, a gift to the eye Past bluebirds, saffron and red butterfly On wings of her soul dream to come abloom A violet ladyslipper’s seed did fly A common pine this seed did dignify This blooming desire, her heart did consume Her hidden beauty, a gift to the eye To survive, pitched struggle in forest dry The delicate orchid’s dreams met their doom A violet ladyslipper’s seed did fly Her blossom was meager, yet seeds nigh Fairest fate was not woven on God’s loom Her hidden beauty, a gift to the eye And ever her seedlings did multiply In plumage full, daughters did bloom A violet ladyslipper’s seed did fly Her hidden beauty, a gift to the eye 6/19/16 For Contest: Villanelle Me a Flower Sponsor: Broken Wings

The Ardent Rose

While holding frail roses close to the breast,
I think of a dawn, so perfect and fair,
ardent with sunlight and warm on the crest

I watched from the window, you were recessed,
deep in thorn bushes, gold in your hair,
while holding frail roses close to the breast

You seemed like a child, barefoot, at best,
pulling a weed, as the breeze stirred the air,
ardent with sunlight and warm on the crest

You looked to the sky, your thoughts off somewhere,
as if you knew time was fragile, at best,
while holding frail roses close to the breast

I think you knew then, how moments, compressed
must fade like the rose, when autumn prepares,
ardent with sunlight and warm on the crest

I've learned through the years, how timeless and blessed
are keepsakes we hold, like roses, once pressed,
while holding frail roses close to my breast,
ardent with sunlight, and warm on the crest

To Taste Loves Bloom

This enduring smile of loves illusions
Delicate in nature to harm or fate
Sweet of taste, these pervasive delusions.

Thriving in what seems boundless profusion
From youths budding blossoms that will not wait
This enduring smile of loves illusions

My heart lays prey to welcomed intrusions
Petals that fall cannot possible sate
Sweet of taste, these pervasive delusions.

Bearing no fruit in darkened seclusion
Hope's brightness and cheer must never abate
This enduring smile of loves illusions.

Bright its color that bares no confusion
That with Gods greatness could only create
Sweet of taste, these pervasive delusions.

True in hope, pray my only conclusion
Be boundless love that my heart celebrates
This enduring smile of loves illusions
Sweet of taste, these pervasive delusions.

They're Lovers

See how the ocean glides back in to kiss the shore?
                                 In my minds eye
They have met on this sand floor
                             Many times before
With a soft caress on the sly.
See how the ocean glides back in to kiss the shore?
                                    As birds soar
                                           High
They have met on this sand floor.
He brings shells and driftwood for her to explore
                         Then leaves being shy.
See how the ocean glides back in to kiss the shore?
Could a lover ask for anymore?
                                   She says nigh.
They have met on this sand floor
Declaring their love as if no one has done it before
                                 To any passer by.
See how the ocean glides back in to kiss the shore?
They have met on this sand floor......

This Morning So Fine

Fall begins this morning so fine
On the mountain hill, I reside
Crisp fresh air and warm sunshine

Greet me, as everything aligns
The season flows in like the tide
Fall begins this morning so fine

The wispy leaves and plants entwine
Within this scenic walk outside
Crisp fresh air and the warm sunshine

Some trees with color of red wine
Happy thoughts send others to hide
Fall begins this morning so fine

For now this moment, is all mine
For now, only happy tears cried
Crisp fresh air and the warm sunshine

Soulful food, to enjoy and dine
This new day takes me on a ride
Fall begins this morning so fine
Crisp fresh air and the warm sunshine

If I Were Poor

If I were Poor would You still reach for Me?
Would You offer Me Your Hand to hold?
Would You Heal Me as this unfolds?
Would You offer Me a bath and cleanse Me?
Would You defend Me from Meanness as We see?
If I were Poor would You still reach for Me?
Could You ever just Be seen with Me as I Be?
Could You pray with Me and help Me Sleep?
Could You walk with Me and Show that You care?
Could You cloth Me and show Me You share?
If I were Poor would You still reach for Me?
Should You help keep a roof over My Head?
Should You furnish a room with a bed?
Should You Hug Me and hold Me tight?
Should You Protect Me from a horrific fight?
If I were Poor would You still reach For Me?
The Old Beggar consoled with Two Rich Men that pondered.
The Two Rich Men just walked away and moved on yonder...
Then The Old Beggar cried in Mercy,"I just begged You to try..."
The Two Rich Men showed no remorse and never answered His Cry...
Then The Old Beggar just stopped and stared when He was apposed...
There The Old Beggar turned away with His Beautiful Angel Wings Exposed!

I Changed the verse by inserting a question every verse. Then The Beggar Himself became an Angel that was hidden the whole time the ballad was told.

A Peregrine Falcon

A peregrine falcon masters the sky its wings majestically arched with flair soaring with the elements eye to eye. In a flurry of speed it flashes by serenely aloof untethered and rare a peregrine falcon masters the sky. Sunlight gilds feathers as soft as a sigh and flickering flecks ignite in the air soaring with the elements eye to eye. Naturally nimble graceful and spry inspiring both audacity and dare a peregrine falcon masters the sky. Riding an invisible thermal high it lifts me up till suddenly I’m there soaring with the elements eye to eye. Like poetry in motion wingtips fly and awed by its beauty I can but stare. Soaring with the elements eye to eye a peregrine falcon masters the sky. (A “villanelle” poem.)

A Rainbow Flower For Valentine

(Valentine Villanelle Challenge)

A RAINBOW FLOWER FOR VALENTINE

I sow with love, and see my petals show.
I wake myself in what I need not fear.
I pause and ponder how love grows and glow.

We see by looking in and out, you know.
I hear your soul sing each time I am near,
I sow with love, and see my petals show.

Some folks we see excited, which are you?
God set the stage! I shall mount softly there,
And pause and ponder how love grows and glow.

Love stalks the heart; but can you tell us how?
The busy bee brings us the best gold nectar;
I sow with love, and see my petals show.

Good neighbors with so many things to show,
To you and me; they love the lively air,
And, fairly, pause by thinking love does grow.

This valentine, I'm ready, I do know.
What provides joy is always, and is near;
I sow with love, and see my petals show.
I pause and ponder how love grows and glow.

Her Beauty

Was so carried away by her beauty
Yes, physically, but the heart was ugly
Now, I feel so empty.

Though it was quite a shame,
I had to take the blame
For it was all about the fame.

Listening To The Wind

Listening to the wind whisper her name as the gilded waves cascade to the shore igniting passion’s insatiable flame. Cupid’s arrow flew with uncanny aim striking my heart at its romantic core listening to the wind whisper her name. Seeking no answers nor assigning blame the keys of love can unlock any door igniting passion’s insatiable flame. Primordial urges run wild to tame inviting feelings I wish to explore listening to the wind whisper her name. Naked, we are oblivious to shame and I'm happier than ever before igniting passion’s insatiable flame. We’re completely different, yet the same in love with an angel that I adore. Listening to the wind whisper her name igniting passion’s insatiable flame. (A villanelle poem)

MEADOW'S ROBE

When meadow flaunts her robe of green
and covers me in tender lace
her perfumed view lights up onscreen.

From mantle wrapped by pure citrine
a peaceful view my breaths embrace,
when meadow flaunts her robe of green.

Cascading dewdrops quite serene,
wheels gently to enshrine my face
her perfumed view lights up onscreen.

A nightingale takes wing, unseen
to pipe last croons within this space,
when meadow flaunts her robe of green.

She glides around like myth's Celine
oh beauty lit by skyline’s grace,
her perfumed view, lights up onscreen!

The newborn dawn will spread its beam
lingering through mild slumber’s pace.
When meadow flaunts her robe of green,
her perfumed air drapes path’s onscreen.

Winter Light

For Joyce

My hands remember your brightness

Your face graces the morning

Lights up the winter darkness

You light up the winter darkness

Common serpents curse winter suns

my hands remember your brightness.

My hands remember your brightness,

the windy blood in song, on a clay harp sung,

You Light up the winter darkness.

Your warmth lights the frosty air

And you, my love basking in pale light

Thinking of you wrapped in sunlight,

My hands remember your brightness,

You light up the winter's bleakness.

Last night I dreamt

Last night I dreamt, a picture my only inspiration
How the world has changed in the passing of years
The memory even now can lead to temptation

I pass now through my own trial and tribulation
All these things leave me with a multitude of fears
Last night I dreamt, a picture my only inspiration

So vivid and so distinct I could feel the sensation
A happiness that could almost bring me to tears
The memory even now can lead to temptation

I have learned through experience and trepidation
Of the ideal of a person and how then it endears
Last night I dreamt, a picture my only inspiration

Abstraction ultimately needs some cultivation
The congregation of people and their peers
The memory even now can lead to temptation

Everything said right now I still live in jubilation
Enjoying every aspect of the moment jars and jeers
Last night I dreamt, a picture my only inspiration
The memory even now can lead to temptation

Diwali- Festival of Lights

Twinkling stars in courtyard light up the sky,
On an absolutely dark moonless Diwali night ,
Sprit of festival comes in alive !

Everyone looks glamorous, in best of attire,
Colourful lights and candles glow bright,
Twinkling stars in courtyard light up the sky !

Warm Embrace puts an end to enmity and satire,
Sets off every mood exactly right,
Spirit of festival comes in alive !

Colour display of crackers, no fight fire with fire,
Exchanging sweets and gifts gain new height,
Twinkling stars in courtyard light up the sky !

Beauty in ideas beyond diamonds and sapphire,
Vast hearty emotions walk in equal delight,
Spirit of festival comes in alive !

Return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya we celebrate,
Worship of Goddess Luxmi, prosperity to plight,
Twinkling stars in courtyard light up the sky,
Spirit of festival comes in alive !

Lured By Your Heart

Lured by your heart I discovered your soul
an ethereal spark that drew me in
allowing me to relinquish control.

When we first met my heart was far from whole
yet somehow I felt the healing begin
lured by your heart I discovered your soul.

Although my future seemed as black as coal
I found only love in your heart not sin
allowing me to relinquish control.

Past misfortunes exacted a heavy toll
yet though my chances were extremely thin
lured by your heart I discovered your soul.

I clung to hope and let the dice roll
heeding the voice whispering soft within
allowing me to relinquish control.

I was like an actor without a role
then suddenly it was my turn to win.
Lured by your heart I discovered your soul
allowing me to relinquish control.

Dreams and thoughts

by
I have filled my mind with dreams and thoughts
I have drawn conclusions that seem real.
What’s of value’s not by effort bought.

As Ted Hughes said, his fishing was the sport
Which brought both meditation and a meal.
I have studied minds and dreams and thoughts

We see ,like that, new images are caught.
In silence and in noticing the feel
What’s of value’s not by effort bought.

What we find may not be what we sought
At first ,it may not show its wise appeal
I have found my mind through dreams and thoughts

In the night the images take flight.
God’s lioness destroys what is congealed
What’s of value’s not by effort wrought.

Like a butterfly, a flowering dart
Of love and beauty which was once concealed
I have found my mind by dreams, my wordless thoughts.
What’s of value’s not by effort bought.

BEAUTY IN LIFE SPONTANEITY

Blank pages of life - spontaneous, unscripted, undefined
Experiences uncovers blues and rhymes one couldn't find
Begin to indite, though endings pave unsure and unplanned

Culture, law, ethics and education; man learns and understand
Defining, refining and reminding they try to do to mankind
Blank pages of life - spontaneous, unscripted, undefined

Attempt to break traditions,"outside tries", don't be confined
Falling and committing mistakes will not leave anyone behind
Begin to indite, though endings pave unsure and unplanned

Reach for something in the distance, consider a wise stand
Drench without inhibitions, "LA VITA E BELLA" bear in mind
Blank pages of life - spontaneous, unscripted, undefined

Anxieties, fear, poverty and inferiority they can blind
Yet, live! live! embrace whole life! don't ever decline!
Begin to indite, though endings pave unsure and unplanned

Remember! NOT everyone can be given a fair second chance
Affectionate at heart and sagacious mind, manage to combine
Blank pages of life - spontaneous, unscripted, undefined
Begin to indite, though endings pave unsure and unplanned

Oh Vulnerable Woman

What a beauty you are!
In this very life, my life!
Oh vulnerable woman!

In your fertile womb,
Precious little life,
What a beauty you are!

Lovely soul takes life bids,
Without hesitation,
Oh vulnerable woman!

Without your weakness,
You would not offer love,
What a beauty you are!

Selfless is your existence;
Yielding self to a small one,
Oh vulnerable woman!

Your delicate body gifted life,
And life gives peace as price,
What a beauty you are!
Oh vulnerable woman!

Untethered And Rare

Hungry narwhal navigate Arctic seas with unicorn horns held high in the air, having never seen a forest of trees. Hunting along cracks where water don't freeze serenely aloof untethered and rare, hungry narwhal navigate Arctic seas. Swimming icy waters quick as you please they're the undisputed masters there, having never seen a forest of trees. Naturally nimble they glide and squeeze through the frozen pack ice without a care, hungry narwhal navigate Arctic seas. Riding invisible currents with ease they jostle and spar each other with flair, having never seen a forest of trees. They seem to fly as if on a trapeze and awed by their beauty I can but stare. Having never seen a forest of trees, hungry narwhal navigate Arctic seas. (A “villanelle” poem.) Written Sept.16th. 2015 for “Impress me with a NARWHAL poem - Poetry Contest”.

The petals that I know

Do I smell the perfume of the roses that grow
Or revel in my coloured Haze
What delights I find here amongst the petals that I know

I find a four leaf clover so
A thorny rosebush can produce a crop to amaze
Do I smell the perfume of the roses that grow

Heavenly scent mystery's that show
Amongst your garden in a daze
What delights I find here amongst the petals that I know

Anytime you want to pick or grow
Pick up your hoe, mend your ways
Smell the sweet nectar and honey that blow

Do you come to where the sweet flowers sow
So as above So Below she says
What delights I find here amongst the petals that I know
Do I smell the perfume of the roses that grow

Mother

My Mother left that day
The shutters are closed shut
Never to have her say

Her world got dim and grey
Working far too much
Never to have her way

How life turned out this way
Was she picked as such
Never to have her say

Why her nights turned to day
Did she need a crutch
Her name was Barbara May

Doctor said its Mind Decay
Could you get in touch
Never to have her say

A mothers Love- A viianelle for all wonderful mothers

A mothers love is without compare
It will not fail under the hardest test
She gives all but always has to spare

Judgment is witheld from her stare
She knows your situation isn't jest
A mothers love is without compare

Even when she's hurt she will care
Your never a burden, never a pest
She gives all, but always has to spare

A long speech she won't prepare
Mom always knows what is best
A mothers love is without compare

Unconditinal love is so extremely rare
Mom is never counted among the rest
She givees all, but always has to spare

The judging father had better beware
A Prodigal son, by his mother, blessed
A mothers love is without compare
She gives all, but always has to spare

Salt Kiss

Who knew the distance to the seas
As hearts meander on the tides
Forever locked in memories

Sighing waters rush, cavorting wild and free
Ask not what lies, hidden from our eyes
Who knew the distance to the seas

Fearless as a feather caught upon a breeze
Cast about upon the brine
Forever locked in memories

We closed our ears to mothers' pleas
Nimbley dancing or' the rocks we climbed
Who knew the distance to the seas

We dipped our toes and screamed with glee
Counted the starfish, all seaweed entwined
Forever locked in memories

Life was short, with no guarantees
We worshiped sun, sand, salt kisses divine
Who knew the distance to the seas
Forever locked in memories

A Beautiful Song Takes Face

A beautiful song he heard in the air
Music in the distance approaching near
He succumbed to the music without care

He didn’t question it no he wouldn’t dare
It sounded as though soon it would be here
A beautiful song he heard in the air

So nice was it that it gave him a scare
Getting closer and closer waiting in fear
He succumbed to the music without a care

The score was very beautiful to be fair
But nothing compared to what did appear
A beautiful song he heard in the air

The beauty he witnessed now could ensnare
To him it became oh so very clear
He succumbed to the music without care

He could spend hours in a single stare
Probably more than hours, maybe a year
A beautiful song he heard in the air
He succumbed to the music without care

Villanelle: Write only as if this were your last deathbreath day

Write only as if this were your last deathbreath day
As if those words gouged out paper or tape
Words distilled from a lifetime’s work and play

Write only what you think is what you say
And what you think never other lives rape
Write only as if this were your last deathbreath day

Write not to beg for praise or prize or pay
What you write must not want to prate agape
Words distilled from a lifetime’s work and play

Write like wordsmiths who worked for Old Vic play
El Manco of Lepanto fate escape
Write only as if this were your last deathbreath day

Write Dostoevsky’s death on pardoned day
To sink Underground swoon writhe out of shape
Words distilled from a lifetime’s work and play

Ugly Beauty makes Art loudly pray
For poets who blindly abuse Muse’s shape
Write only as if this were your last deathbreath day
Words distilled from a lifetime’s work and play
