Fireflies Light the Path

Firelies flapping wings
light dark trails in fields at night
laterns bob and sway
like twinkling stars on high
while small hands reach to capture
In response to Nette's "Splashes by Evening"
Miss you, Nette!

a twisted tree
casts a single shadow
          mirage on horizon
     disillusions tempered
by a mother’s love

Caught In The Sun

I'm caught in the sun
Shining its rays onto me
Breathing in salt air
Taking in the blue green sea
Footprints left upon the sand

mistress of nature
and love
my imagination
lost so gracefully in her

it’s nothing fancy
just an old two-story home –
unfinished basement
plastic siding over wood
on high ground against a flood

and the neighborhood?
hey! It’s about just plain folks
folks living just plain –
no doctors, bankers, lawyers
nope! we’re wood-cutters, sawyers

this is where i live
oh i could do much better
this i tell myself
trying to set self above
giving my old butt a shove

talk about old age
talk about one being stuck
talk about old dreams
nope! this common crowd will do
sorry for the lonely few

Winter Nights

Winter nights are cold-
Sipping cocoa by the fire
Soft music playing
Snuggling up in a blanket
Feeling all warm and cozy

Happy Tanka

happy Meadow Lark
filled my days with melody
in Dakota youth
were I to travel back there
would he be singing for me

happy was my lot
in my North Dakota land
worry and care free
as the melodious bird
was he the reason I thrived

could I find my way
in the land of my childhood
back to thrills and trills
would I be sad if my bird
had forgotten how to sing

SEPTEMBER SONG - triple tanka

Like a lover's sigh
She tiptoes forth looking back -
Those warm memories -
Birds still singing cross over
And sad sunshine stills the wind

Now September sings
A sympathetic tune silvers
Promises late gold -
The change will be gradual -
Promises sleep painless sleep

Mysterious calm
Like a magic caesura
Bated by surprise
In mind it's ever the same
Such gentle looking forward

HAPPY HAPPY TIME - double tanka

Happy happy time
Early tears and sleep lifted
Once past Labor Day
Harlequin in falll colors
Trips so lightly o'er the world

Echoes sad voices
From the past are silenced
By the happy clown
Bacchus come down pours the wine
The whole world on color dines

A Sunny Day

Soft shiny shells beneath my feet Sun dappled water rushing by Kites tangle vying for supremacy Birds circling high above Diving into cumulus clouds

 Happiness is found
 not in common green paper
 it was founded once
by the people who fly free
 away from troubles

Your Smile

flawless face smiles
making creases ‘round your mouth
your teeth shining through
my heart soars across the sky
i can’t help but smile too

Running, leaping high
I feel as if I'm flying
Rolling, soaring sly
Careening through the trees, free
Forest of dreams while I sleep

One Happy Medium

moderation is
the key to the vulgarness
of polar extremes.
it allows balance of mind
over matter and your dreams.

Everybody Deserves To Be Happy

                                               A treasure buried
                                         Waiting to be discovered
                                             By the valiant souls
                                        Risking hearts to be hurted
In the unknown love game path

Happy Days

Rising from darkness
Seeing the light tresspassing
Grey shadows that loom
Smiling again with the faith
Everything will be all right
