Life Lesson

I love being young, getting to ride the roller coasters.
The sound, tick, tick, tick, tick-like a heartbeat racing to the top.
Then, surprised even when you know it’s coming, dropped into the abyss.
Something always pulls it down, like gravity.
It’s frustrating, riding something so close to being dead.
So far away but still so close, seating rows.

I hate being so close to, yet so far from the row.
She was in with me on this roller coaster.
Adrenaline rushed my body so fast almost leaving me dead.
The blood flowed so fast emphasizing the highs of the top.
But something keeps pulling me down, gravity.
Here I am again, back in the abyss.

In the ride, weeks of no communication, the beginning of the end, the abyss.
The scariest. My worst fear of my youth. Looking back at the rows,
I see her, with my own image, my heart sinks more. I hate you gravity.
But it’s the only thing that fuels the roller coaster.
Nothing makes me happier than bringing it back to the top.
Let’s hope this isn’t so abrupt, so fast, like the last one, leaving me dead.

How I hope so much, so much hope still not dead.
The heart, the love, the eternal abyss.
Strikes me back with enough momentum to reach the top.
Lines, love, flashing like an old film, with rows.
Showing me a movie, reminding me of, a roller coaster.
The movie explained that the only thing that keeps it going is gravity.

Thank you gravity.
My worries are gone and dead.
Just accept it, and love the roller coaster.
Appreciate the loneliness of the abyss.
The reason you’re here is for the ride, not the rows.
I just want to enjoy the youth and its happy tops.

This coaster, like love has its tops.
But something brings it down like gravity.
Distanced with rows,
Never seeing her again, thinking she’s dead.
But deeper and deeper coming out of the abyss.
The complicated life of the young, the love of roller coasters.

Get on the roller coaster, rise to the top.
Don't worry about the drop to the abyss, It’s because of gravity
That you’re not dead, and I don't care about the rows.

Dance, was my release

Pain had I ignited bright
Through my silence, had my hurt worsened
Denied conversations with all for superficial reasons, I had
Forgetting that love was my life
And people were my love
As I danced, did I repent

Slower were my motions
An expression of joy, had my face not worn
Though the subtlety, left all indifferent
Seen me as myself, they had
The scarring in my body, was concealed
Each hand grasped, healing another wound

My ignorance, claimed no mask
If my words you could not hear, they were not yours
A norm had I created, to destroy myself
Though forgiveness, had been a gift received
Grudges, were there none to find
Every gesture, a reconciliation for me

Hatred, was there none to emit
A wealth of moments, had been created
Unity had proved solid, through the rhythm
A spectacle, had the front created
Humanity at its best, is when material is undesired
My hate almost undone, through the arms of strangers

Caged my heart had I, for many months
Its beats' restrictions, pleading to stop
My acknowledgement, had been in vain
Torture did I sought more to inflict
Until your beauty was mine to behold
In your movements, was my heart freed

Your existence, I refuted as an absence
Success was inevitable through my acts
Than upon your face, my eyes fell
And my love, had been remembered again
All that was true, had I sighted in your acceptance
Swaying with you, transited my apologies

Healed my hate, had dance
Enabled reconciliation, had each hand
In swaying with you, had my love been freed

MIRACLE AT DAWN

No mother would fill up her eyes with tears of woman...
if it weren't for God performing a miracle at dawn,
as she cried out in joy and held her baby in trembling arms
but shed many sweet tears hearing his laughter so loud;
oh, he couldn't see her mommy's face through his tiny eyes,
and it will be long before he'll will utter the first word, " Mom."

Now that baby sleeps under the attentive look of his mom,
who's too young to become a mature woman;
many visions of this birth crossed her gleeful eyes
she dreamed of the very same words whispered at each dawn,
repeating them in her silly head as if they sounded too loud...
while cradling a pretty doll in her folded arms.

Will she be welcomed home by her parents opening their arms?
Will they reprimand her and not consider her a legal mom?
Perhaps they will not be angry and speak not so loud:
girls are supposed to be girls, not suddenly turn into woman...
So this innocent girl, deceived by a bad boy, must wake up at dawn
when her baby cries and feed him with scary, childish eyes?

Nights seem longer for her, trying to stay awake rubbing her eyes,
what she beheld in those exciting eyes, now it's a burden in her weary arms;
she remembers that pain was too unbearable, but joy more sublime at dawn...
how will she learn how to care for the infant by watching her mom?
She must have seen a nursery or read a book how to think like a real woman,
and can anyone imagine how she keeps that secret instead of revealing it loud?

She must gather enough courage inside to feed her baby who can't cry loud,
but for now she must carry that baby without sighs of distress into her bright eyes;
and her parents can see the changes making her a loving person already woman;
they may ask questions to why she has gained weight and holds dolls in her arms...
no, they aren't anticipating great news and in doubt, they await a splendid dawn.

Mother and daughter closely together amazed by the coming dawn,
any concealed secret can be easily spoken...somewhat joyful and loud;
they imagine the infant's futures will be part of grandma and mom!
Their reunited hearts come together to show love in their delighted eyes,
and they'll take turns feeding the new-born, tenderly lulling him in their arms;
what if forgiveness hadn't been there to deny her all of the joys of woman?

Would a mother deny her daughter compassion as a good woman?
Even God hurried dawn to offer that gift into her gracious, tender arms...
and those arms accepted it with the gentleness and kindness of mom.

Bye Gones

A full heart chokes
too full to feel
anything but broken.
Seems all is lost
and only phantoms linger
must I remain?

A hollow husk, a remnant
yet, engorged and choking
on maudlin memories lingering
I cannot stop the feelings
the haunted thoughts of loss
surrounded by what’s broken.

Rise up, wrap, beribboned breaks
yes, I must remain
for others have a need not lost
in pointless, pitiful sobs and choking.
Regain, search, reform to feel
the worth of love which lingers.

A man child grown who has lingered
past the vows which broke
too full, still, with anger of his own to feel
I must remain
anxious, prone, and choking
for forgiveness must not be lost.

Let it be forgiveness loosing
let sweet reminiscence linger
un-choked
let the bond of love live unbroken
though soon I must go and he remain
and naught will be left to feel.

For there are many types of feelings
and many ways to lose
what remains
what lingers
the broken
chokings.

Be gone death and loss
remain but joy a lingering
repair my broken life un-choked by grief.

Kevin's Sestina

It dawned on me as the smoke would reflect
I, in an empty space deprived of sleep
Fundamental limit to be conceived
Prelude to a dream as vivid as real
Image seared in my head, you watch me drown
The thought, persistent enough to exist

Redefine alive, draw breath to exist
In solitary moments I reflect
Your still lifeless eyes are watching me drown
To fade as though a medicated sleep
To be flawed, scared, normal is to be real
Look beyond what you see, all is conceived

Pure depth is not so easily conceived
True belief with contempt, will it exist
Second guess or question when this is real
The failure and broken tries I reflect
Replay each moment, haunts me in my sleep
The peace I draw in hopes this too will drown

Feeling numbs as it fades, released I drown
Subjective perception no one conceived
Car crash and broken glass herd in my sleep
My eyes will count the seconds I exist
Mortality I mimic or reflect
The last deep breathe before the storm is real

If what you hold is hollow, what is real?
What we perceive society will drown
Sentiment comes to life as we reflect
Thought process seems difficult when conceived
Resentment I thought would never exist
Faith guide my words to god praying for sleep

Nameless faces blend and fall into sleep
The pain I feel, the tears I cry are real
Hostility will forever exist
Bound to the breathless screams my blood will drown
It’s the fear I chase, I have now conceived
Discomfort I carry as I reflect

Warm white light is soothing, now I may sleep
Profound emotion, aftermath is real
Reassured, there’s no question I exist

LASSIE, THE GOLDEN RETRIEVER

Lassie, the golden retriever was
a beautiful dog with a rich, shaggy coat,
and two gorgeous brown eyes;
thirty long years have passed,
and that name still echoes with hurt:
remembering the fun times we had!

Deep into the back-woods, a kind of wilderness,
she would ran off and sometimes get lost;
I'd call her and she would answer with a bark...
Lassie found a strayed puppy who needed milk,
and right there she fed him with her motherly tenderness:
how cute was the hungry puppy suckling without haste!

Lassie, lovable, Lassie slip off the leash and run off to chase
after the timid and slender squirrels that love to climb
in the dogwood tree, which I planted four decades ago!
Lassie, adorable, Lassie lead me to the narrow and dusty lane,
where we both find a fragrant apple tree,very green but low...
to rest in its soothing shade as summer delights us with its sound!

Dogs have short lives, mine seems very long, and I immensely regret
to have taken you to the animal shelter by those dark rail-road tracks...
by whisking you away in a bright-yellow cab,
so that they could find you the nicest place to stay...
because the land-lady, with a German accent, stated," No pets allowed!"
And that happened when I moved to a small apartment in Ozone Park by mid-May!

Lassie, faithful and loving dog, your pictures proudly hang
on every wall, refusing to let that memory vanish from inside,
always cherishing the sweetness of you:  my most loyal friend;
and I still can remember those younger days as dashing as sunlight!
Come, Lassie...let me snuggle you and make believe yesterday never came;
I would rather recall the happy past...than constantly linger on blame!

All Your Voices

Once, long distant calls would cost
You, your friends and family so many voices
had to wait, anticipate the budget and the worth
of words said out loud to ride rapid electric lines.
Still sentiments of love freely fly on telepathic planes
while prose and poetry remain yours truly.

When present face to face do you speak truly?
Conversations branch out, chip, splinter into stories, that's the cost.
Fish stretch past arms' length and record breaking climbs pass clouds and planes.
Tell me again how it all began, how many voices
sang out from heaven: Forgiveness for sale! Limited supply, form lines.
Greedy practice, selling soul's salvation, who figures out what it's worth?

Fear can make us pay the selfish who decide our worth.
Are our souls and spirits make-believe, a magician's trick or God's, truly?
Conversations of belief from heart or scripted lines
brainwashed or sincerely swayed, choice has a cost---
Cross your fingers, chant the scriptures, sing with all your voices
until it's real or a lie you can live with, insured for your departure in heaven's plane.

If a soldier's plane crashes, angelic eagles soar, swoop like planes,
nose dive to every soldier because lives are worth
remembering. Telephones shoot words-- bam, bam, bam, fire voices
on ears that bleed worst fears, shattering those who love them truly.
Nothing will ever be sweet or innocent again, this is an impossible cost.
War kills conversations, steals final farewell lines.

Songs please draw forgiving lines,
to rise over hatred in unarmed planes
for a bird's eye perspective to consider the cost
of love lost in doubt, its worth.
Love lights up any sort of soul, truly.
It's power hurls bolts through nerves that revive the mystic voices...

Devils, misfits, do-gooders, cherubs and chumps-- let's hear all your voices!
Call out to love, it won't resist, will cross any line
to save who is good or bad-- it desires everyone, truly
Here comes the light, hear comes our flight, listen for the plane
Remember it's insane to worry about your worth,
to be, to be, is miracle enough, we can't comprehend the cost.

Solo fly or get in line formation with you plane
Lift off, blast past hatred to reach Love's treasure of unimaginable worth.
Truly precious, so protect it, Love in all your actions no matter what the cost

NEFARIOUS FACES

Nefarious faces with pale cheeks,
dulling your senses with narcotics;
and dangerously staring at others
whose clement destiny
isn't called squalid poverty,
or negligible neediness...

All can be spared by the dint of astuteness,
making amends and becoming social;
you can be an atheist or an ungodly person:
you all deserve an assuring look of compassion,
to give up your attitude of indifference,
believing in yourself and forgetting every fault...

Nefarious faces of rapists and assassins, you assail
blameless and innocent people without mercy,
and in their hurt and blood you express your atrocity;
Cain acted out of jealousy, you act out of madness
by vindicating an amatory act and a deprivation of wealth
that were never granted by an insensitive society...

Come and drink of the water of holiness,
to purify your atrocious minds and your sinful souls:
turn to the Lord Jesus who forgives anyone
who's willing to repent, and be born again;
salvation is closer than you ever thought,
it cleanses your impure hearts with merciful love...

In His Grace

I'm absolutely certain that it's only by God's grace
That I could climb if I have to...that very high.. wall
God give us life all thru His loving care and fresh air
My God is really awesome, and He's loving and so very kind
And my heart with pride with all His love just swells
Because knowing and accepting His salvation makes me so happy.

In God's loving care I am always happy
Because I can depend always on His grace
God protects us and shields us from ocean's swells
And with Him we can ascend and descend any wall
He's in control of everything and the very same air
And my God is so loving forgiving and kind.

Like God's love there's no other because God is perfect and kind
And when I obey His Word and follow Him I feel very happy
God renews my heart and my lungs each day with clean air
He does it all for you and me because of His love and grace
With God by our side we can never lose but win and climb that wall
And living for God is better and my heart with all His love just swells.

With God's tender love and care I can forever live and my heart swells
Because I know without a doubt that His sweet love is one of its kind
And with God by my side I can climb or descend any high wall
Because God cares for you and me and that makes me really happy
Just knowing I can enjoy forever His most wonderful grace
I praise Him everyday for all the things I see,the sky, the sea... the air.

I see God's love manifested all over the earth the sea... the air
And all the creatures' hearts with God's shining love just swells
And the stars and the moon sing praises for His Mighty Creation and grace
Because of God's Love there's still Love Hopes and Dreams of every kind
Thinking of His love makes my heart day and night happy
Because God is my rock and to protect me He can build a wall.

And with God by my side I can climb and descend any high wall
He gives life to each of us everyday with tons of clean air
And when I choose to obey His Ten Commandments that makes me happy
Because with joy and serene peace my heart for God full of love swells
Knowing that God is so real, true forgiving and kind
And that I can always trust Him and enjoy forever His Blessed Grace!

With God's Grace I can descend and climb any tall wall
God fills my lungs with fresh air because He's so loving and kind
And my heart swells with all His love which makes me always so happy.

A MERCIFUL AND FORGIVING SOUL

A merciful and forgiving  soul
molds a person's character...
to lead that heart down the path of awareness,
to weather all difficulties with confidence and ease;
surly and sullen looks that plagued its thoughts can disappear,
when those open eyes ascertain every fault.

Battles are desperately fought, only some are won...
accept a small victory, instead of a great defeat;
understand the mentality of the selfish man,
with his vanity exceeding its capacity,
to gain prestige and impose his superiority
on others who remain silent and weep.

Break down the barriers of injustice and greed,
never step back and fear the one who's preposterous and unfair;
embody the mind of the Almighty in yourself,
and He will guide you through each struggle without hatred or anger!
A flower must grow for us to admire the beauty of its planted seed,
so is courage rapidly growing...fortifying our inner strength.

A merciful and forgiving soul
abides by the fairest and justest laws,
those laws set by the Supreme Ruler, who posses the holiest mind;
and whoever obeys, regardless of past disobedience, reaps its rewards in this lifetime.
A merciful and forgiving soul...
doesn't wait for tears to fall, or pitiful words to wipe clean anyone's offense.
