The single white rose captured the old gardener's attention,
He lovingly cared for it, like it was his own grand-daughter,
The roses were just like family and friends in his eyes,
He gave them bright sunshine, and plenty of fresh water.

He had always planted roses in reds, yellows, and pinks,
Yet, it was the one white rose that he favored most,
The old gardener admired it's innocence and elegance,
A quality that the other roses just could not boast.

This precious rose was pure white, like new fallen snow,
Which only a cold, late November day could bring,
It's delicate petals were soft to the finger's touch,
Similar to that of a feather, in an angel's wing.

The old gardener was perplexed and astonished,
Only this rose bloomed through spring, summer, and fall,
Each of the other roses had withered months ago,
The frost and cold weather did not affect it at all.

With a smile, the old gardener took one last look,
Unknowingly, death would soon come without warning,
After he had settled down for a nap in his chair,
He drew his last breath, later on that morning.

His funeral was held on the very next day,
Loving words were spoken, as he was laid to rest,
His grand-daughter approached, with tears in her eyes,
As she placed the single white rose upon his chest.

The cemetery was a quiet and peaceful place,
Where family and friends gathered to remember,
A gentle snow began to fall upon the casket lid,
Brightening the gloom on this final day of November.

The old gardener's soul departed from this earth,
Lead away by a choir of angels, on delicate wings,
Then on through the pearly gates of heaven's garden,
Where the white rose still blooms, in eternal springs.

Patriot Guard funeral Escort
Loch David Crane
August, 2008

Today is sunny: with three dozen bikes,
some decorated cars, a pair of trikes,
two dozen Marines: all of the family
and toddlers to set their Daddy free
into the Great Beyond beyond the sky
where loved ones send their veterans who die.
Below our feet the stones give way to grass
where they are neatly trimmed; and as we pass
the names of strangers stare into the air
and we look back, wondering who lies there.
I won't step on a grave--I'll walk around
so not to insult those within the ground.
We ride at funerals honoring those vets,
brave men and women we have never met.

"Friend,
Mind wandering through misty woods.
You don't understand your purpose.
Friend,
I knew you too little,
Please do not shed your salty emotions,
Not out of anger, not out of sadness.
Friend,
You now lose your way so easily,
You sink, you burst, you burn inwardly.
You weep from frustrations,
From the guilt of an honest smile,
From pains, that you forget for a moment,
That come swiftly back to haunt you of your loss.
I understand, dear friend.
You once had a light and the woods seek to snuff it out.
Do not fear, dear friend,
Friend follow me, as I once did you.
Friend, now you see?
Yes, you see,
The little wisps in the fog that guide us home."

HEAVEN NOW HAS THE REST

It’s been so long
Since my eyes have seen your face
There’s still days I wish you were here so I could tell you
Everything going right or wrong.

Your smile was the moon in my sky at night
And your laughter was my stars;
You are still in my heart
You will always be its light.

Even after all these years
I wonder how you would be
If you were here,
Some days there are still tears.

Heaven has the best
For now you have wings;
We lived a few years here in this life,
Heaven now has the rest.

Please don't cry over my casket
For I am not there
Please don't cry at my grave
My soul has been set free
I know it's hard not to cry
I've been down that road one to many times

I have no more pain
I have no more sickness
And I would not change a thing
As I walk threw the gates of Heaven
Mom Dad our brothers and sisters
Will welcome me with open arms
Here I am free of that pain

Don't blame yourself
It was my time to go home
This is where I'm supposed to be
Don't dwell on things which you can not change
I will always be in your heart

I will always be watching over you
When that day comes for you to come home
I will be there to welcome you
With open arms
And walk you through the gates of Heaven
You will be greeted by our family & friends
Who came home before you
Until that day I will be watching over you

Beloved, lovely roses: gift of God and lover’s flower,
Spread your colored petals and cradle tender showers.
While admiring the blossoms with their beauty to behold,
Ought we not to know the Tender of such lovely garden groves?

For He lovingly and thoughtfully wields His pruning shears
To cut away the stems of old for fuller future years.
He cultivates and feeds them. He attends them as a Father
Looking daily to their needs; so faithfully He waters.

From the dawn of morning dew until the setting sun arrays
Caring always for His own until that great appointed day…
When the Gardener comes to claim each one the earth held as its own.
He gently picks it at its peak and for His pleasure takes it home.

As God did one glorious morning, when the Perfect Rose had bloomed.
He rolled away the stone and met with Mary at the tomb.
There the sweetest Rose of Sharon rose that we die not alone.
But be gathered for a garden grove, surrounding heavens throne.

Here lies the best Grandfather,
One who was very considerate.
Remembering him as a child,
I would sit on his lap.
He was a rare person indeed.
He was a colonel in the Army.
Also superlative of a gentelman.
Here lies the best grandfather,
May he rest in peace.

There's not much to say.
I knew her, know some things,
but certainly not all.

I know how little she put up with fools,
how her cooking surpassed so many others',
how simultaneously sweet and hard she could be.
I know about her smoking,
about her jewelry, her faith,
all these I'll hold close to me.

Every single spark, every star,
shines with such a glow, such a marvelous radiance,
that we can't gaze too closely at it,
lest we cause ourselves pain.
And yet, despite ourselves, again and again,
we do;
because it's not within us to resist
the sheer beauty of it all,
of stories and of life.

A bouquet of tulips for you.
We all miss you already, Grandma.
I miss you.
I know Heaven's got you, taking no guff as always,
making sure we're all doing alright.
I love you.

My cloak as been removed, my invincibility laid bare.
My life clock is in overdrive is this my time to breath my last fresh air.
Let heaven wait an angel and hell a stokers mate.

My plan is to rest in peace and hope not to many weep.
My eyes will miss the sunsets, my heart its beating in my breast.
My cloak as been removed, my invincibility laid bare.

My mortal time is ending my heart will soon beat it last.
and I'm off to rest in peace or may haunt those that laughed.
let heaven wait an angel and hell a stokers mate.

You think you will live forever and then sneak an extra day.
but in reality any day could be the day that your last breath go's away
My cloak as been removed,my invincibility laid bare.

Your born without a penny and tears within your eyes.
and leave behind your fortune and them tears in others eyes.
Let heaven wait an angel and hell a stokers mate.

Let life's trials have it's say, and then turn the other cheek.
Live your life with love and passion and treasure every day.
My cloak as been removed, my invincibility laid bare
Let heaven wait an angel and hell a stokers mate.

A firefighters Tears

You see him on the sidelines but you can't see his eyes.
He's hoping no one's seeing the teardrops as he cries.

Arriving in just minutes they did their best no doubt.
But a child lost his life today before the fire got put out.

He found his lifeless body in the hallway by the stair.
He carried him outside as smoke rose from his hair.

Trying to revive him his hands covered the boys whole chest.
Sometimes good ain't good enough no matter it's your best.

The other firemen saw as his body started shaking.
Hands upon his shoulders his big heart was breaking.

Standing by a dumpster the fireman heard a young voice say.
I'm on my way to heaven and tomorrows my birthday.

Too demanding not understanding he turned to see who's there.
A young boy in pajamas and smoke rose from his hair.

I'd like to stay and talk some more but I really gotta go.
I'm gonna be just fine and I wanted you to know.

He stepped out of the alley there was nothing he could say.
An ambulance took the young boys body but angels carried him away.

Where am I? Why is it dark?
This isn’t what I had in mind when I left the park…
Why isn’t the wind whispering…the songbirds singing?
All I remember is a telephone ringing…
A scream and a crash and a pain in my side…
Is this what happens after one’s died?
I don’t feel like myself, I feel wild and free,
Yet I’m cold and alone, 'stead of filled with glee.

My whole life I’ve studied, and pondered, and prayed,
Trying to fathom what would happen this day
But now that it’s here, I’m beginning to fear
Maybe the afterlife’s not what it appears…
It’s certainly not what I’ve been told by my preacher
Or my parents or brother or best friend or teacher…
Is it a bad thing, or is it good?
Maybe it’s just not quite understood...

While I was on Earth, I just couldn’t wait
To meet good St. Peter at the heavenly gate
And ask him a question or query or two
“What was my purpose?” “What good did I do?”
“What’s it all for?” “How does it all flow?”
“Can I have one more body, one more try, one more go?”
But where is the angel? Where is the gate? And
If this is Hell, then where is Ol’ Satan?
Am I a lost soul? Am I forgotten?
Am I to be left here until I am rotten?

Lo and behold! what, now, can this be?
Is this a wonderful spiritual epiphany?
Is this the magical feeling all souls receive
When they leave Earth? Oh! was I that naïve?
How could I have not seen the realism?
Why was I consumed in man-made idealism?
This is more wondrous than all I was taught
Oh, all the times I argued and fought
With others, ‘bout how their views were asinine
Now I see, theirs were just as wrong as mine!
Little I thought was actually correct!
How, why, did I let others petty beliefs infect
My untouched, my pure, my virgin mind?
I regret all the hours I self-tortured to find
That compared to what I see now, I was empty and blind…

Wait - - What is this that I see?
What is this gateway that is revealed unto me?

Now a door is opened to my immortal soul
I am expected now to enter my life’s final goal…
I am scared, intimidated, but still I am glad…
For the truth I have just seen is anything but bad.
This is the end of my journey, I’ve nothing to fear,
For now I am going Beyond the Frontier.

I some how feel numb
I am hearing and seeing but I can't move a crumb,

My body lays motionless to avoid the pain
I tell my self it is all in my brain,

How did I get this bad in such a short time
I was fine then the Doc said; oh you have two spots the size of a dime,

So I fight and say give me the chemo to keep me alive
I know in my heart there is no hope for me to survive,

But, my mind is still full of positive thoughts
This is what I needed due to how I have fought,

I cannot give up and just let go
Then I will for sure never know,

How long I would have had if I don't give in
No matter what happens I will keep fighting till the end.

Some love too little, some love too long,
some they answer the riddle but fail to move on
some laugh and others cry
when truest feelings have been denied
Some do the act with a show of tears,
surrendering everything showing their fears
And some without a sigh;
they just let their pride die
For some men kill the things they love,
power given from up above
Yet each man does deny.
power from heaven they devise

Some kill love when in their youth,
some kill with abuse
And some when they grow old;
in the end the scam unfolds
Some smother with the hand of greed,
turning away from the hand of need
Because of lust for gold;
the way of love had turned old
The evil use their tongue because,
of vengence to discover
It takes love where it’s cold
and evil thought it mutters

But men who kill the girl they love,
and claim a passion from heaven above
have a story to be heard;
lets not listen to one word
Some do it with a callous look
with a wisdom from the good book
Some with a bitter word;
and with some with passion never heard,
The tyrant does it with his fist,
and serial killer with his list
The weak man with a sword.
a genious that was bored

I stare upon December's moon,
and wonder why some leave so soon.
When news hits us like shattered glass...
Can we believe what's come to pass?
When we aren't meant to understand...
Then who are we to judge God's plan?
As he sifts through the sands of time...
Was this really by design?
Will we get from here to there,
and know it when we do?
Will we greet our flesh and blood,
and those we never knew?
Remember those that mean the most,
and hear their voices ring.
Then shut your eyes...and listen close,
and you'll hear an angel sing...

You weren't a saint but you were extremely close.
Out of all of the people on Earth, I've always loved you the most.
It will be very painful as they lower you into the ground.
Life will never be the same because you're no longer around.

You were a wonderful human being and a terrific mother too.
Your family and friends will always love you.
You were so sweet and kind that you should've been given a humanitarian award.
The people in Heaven are happy because you're there and so is the Lord.

You're in a better place and that makes your friends and family glad.
But as people see the tears rolling down my cheeks, they know that I'm so sad.
You were one fantastic lady, you were truly one of a kind.
Knowing that Heaven is your new home gives us peace of mind.

From time to time I wasn't the ideal son and that's something I regret.
You gave me life, love and happiness and that's something I'll never forget.
It hurts very much because you are deceased.
Everybody loves you Mom, may you rest in peace.

When I close my eyes for one last time
His bright light I will see
His glory will shine upon me
His calming warmth will set me free
His grace and love will rest upon me

With his one touch
I have wings that will envelop me
His voice I hear as a whisper
Calling me home to be with him
I take his hand and glorify him

Glorify his name
No pain
No sadness
No fear
No shame
No darkness

Glorify his name in Jesus We Pray

As you are a Saint
They two are angels
In my little heaven
Where gardens are grand
Flowers always in bloom
Sentiments flowing under the moon
I dream of a kiss
sharing these words with flowing curves
Of delight
Bringing heaven down to earth
How absurd?

Time moves on,
and soon will tell,
when asked for whom
they ring the bell…
 Forty lived
…and forty lost,
you left before twilight.
When it’s half as much,
at twice the cost,
you’ll bask
in perfect light…
We live in castles
…made of sand,
we come as a stranger,
but leave as a friend…
Remember now,
your last first kiss,
those times will be
profoundly missed…
Your smile indeed
could cast a spell.
You learned to
play a bad hand well…
With all our hopes
and dreams in tow,
we are old too quick,
and wise too slow.
Life’s an elaborate
complex dance...
Would you live again,
if you had the chance?

He was slothful in the race
Yet entered in by wondrous grace.
His works of earthly gain, no more remain.
The world’s pursuits there now distained.
Forlorn of blessings lost to greed,
Mistaken goals and careless deeds.
While words of praise from men he sought,
Such idle words have come to naught.

Another entered into rest,
His works of love far greater blest.
While poorer was his life on earth,
At Heaven’s gate, unfathomed worth.
For small the pain in life he bore,
His sacrifices gained far more.
His faithful love and service too
Bore gold and gems of vibrant hues.

And then, all stood toward Heaven’s gate
Where throngs of anxious saints await.
An elder mother made her way
Past countless lives her life had graced.
A chorus rose of cheers and laughter
Extended arms, were panting after
That one great, logged-for-embrace;
Where every trace of loss met grace.
Beyond description or imagination
There came new heights of jubilation.
I turned to see the Savior leap,
To greet this one, now at His feet.
He knelt, and raised her up with grace,
Embraced, then gently kissed her face.
On cue, all heaven roared in praise
For they knew how this mother prayed.
Then Jesus cried aloud triumphant,
As with the voice of a thousand trumpets:
“Bring forth the crown of righteousness,
Well done, dear one, receive your rest!”
For such God waits and longs to bless,
For these are heaven’s highest guests.

How hard could it be to take my first step?

“Come to mommy, you can do it.”

“Oh you're home. Hon, look at him go.”

As I take another step, he picks me up.

He hugs me tight but gently and kisses me on the cheek.

I feel so safe, loved and happy. Perhaps that's how it was.

(I really don't remember back that far.)

How hard could it be, my first day at school.

My mom meets me at the front door of the building,

hugs me and says, “How was your first day? Did you have fun today?”

He comes home after a hard day at work and mom says,

“Hi Hon, it was Den’s first day of school.”

He picks me up in his strong arms and says,

“I knew you could do it.” A hug and a kiss on the cheek.

How hard could it be to learn how to drive a car or a truck?

“Den, come with me. Let's take a short ride down the road.”

We both climb up into Dad's blue 1955 Chevy pickup.

He stops on the back road, gets out, comes around and says, “Scoot over. It's

your turn.”

I start the engine, push in the clutch, shift and we start out slowly.

I'm nervous, I speed up, clutch in, shift again.

Oh crap, I shifted into reverse, truck stopped abruptly and backfired.

Dad looks at me, “But you did it.“ He hugs me, a kiss on the cheek.

How hard could it be to go away to college?

I'm so glad she has a phone so I can call my mom and dad.

“Hi Den, how are things going? You've got a B average.

That's great. I knew you could do it. I love you, see you soon.”

“You met a girl? What's her name? Wow, see you soon. I love you”

“You want to marry her? Big step; in Holland? Okay, we love you.”

How hard could it be to have a family?

“Oh, it's a girl. Mireille, that's a nice name.” He hugs me, kiss on the cheek.

“Another girl, Michelle, that's a nice name too.” He hugs me, kiss on the cheek.

“You finally had a boy, Michael, good choice.” Hug and a kiss.

Birthdays, holidays, weekends, visits back and forth, phone calls.

He loves them all, unconditionally. Hugs and kisses all around.

How hard could it be as life goes on?

He watches them grow up, get married and have children.

He loves them all, unconditionally, hugs and kisses all around.

We take short trips and mom and Dad go with us now and then.

We go camping and mom and Dad visit us now and then.

Every time you left, hugs and kisses all around. Always, “See you soon.”

DON'T STAND IN PIOUS JUDGMENT OF THE BONDS I MUST UNTIE,
DON'T TELL ME HOW TO SUFFER,
DON'T TELL ME HOW TO CRY.
MY LIFE IS FILLED WITH SELFISHNESS,
MY PAIN IS ALL I SEE,
BUT I NEED YOU,
I NEED YOU YOUR LOVE UNCONDITONALLY.
ACCEPCT ME IN MY UPS AND DOWNS,
I NEED SOMEONE TO SHARE,
JUST TO HOLD MY HAND AND LET ME CRY,
AND SAY, MY FRIEND I REALLY DO CARE
Mom you mean the world to me
It’s hard to live without you ,You were always by my side
Through thick and thin you helped me

As I stare up at the sky,
I sit and wonder why,
God has taken you so quickly,
when you have been saved so recently.

Only to perceive
and I believe,
that at Victory Baptist you came to rest,
so that you could meet Jesus and be blessed.

Because in Heaven,
you were expected,
he needed you to heed his call
and be able to turn away from it all

And if you did not have a chance to say,
good-bye to your family,
you will be reunited with them one day
and until then they will think of you daily.

So, now I kneel and pray,
asking God to lift their grief away,
that he allows her to meet them at heaven's door,
so that they may hold her once more.

That I have to post this upsets me:
My poems are copyright. I am sharing my
poems for you to read not for you to
post willy-nilly to a website, in
your newsletter or anywhere else with out
my permission. I am available, leave me a
message. Especially to those who change
the name of my poem and not give proper
credit. You should be ashamed!

As I die he will be with me,
I fell in love he had the key,
And always knelt on one knee.

My last thoughts are of him,
As the lights go dim,
Life circling on a rim.

All at once we are apart,
The taste is so tart,
It all hits me in the heart.

You are left to live,
My heart your captive,
There is nothing to forgive.

My cheeks blush so shy,
With a tear in my eye,
As I start to die.

Fear not for I am well,
As many up here can tell,
It is not quite hell.

As I look from above,
kissing the forehead of my love,
I wonder what he dreams of.

I look at him so fondly,
his lips curve so grandly,
as he sleeps so soundly.

I'm like a hummingbird fluttering over his bed,
I wish to be with him but I am dead,
My life over and has fled.

I fear for my love for he is kind,
Strong handsome and well lined,
But now I leave him way behind.

Finding love is like a quiz,
Never knowing what it is,
He needs love from a heart as strong as his.

She lies in a pile of bloody red roses

She left a note to her folks saying

" I cant go on im sorry"

      It didnt say why

But still we cry

      We are all very sad

some of us are mad

       none of us are glad

She'll b greatly missed

To me she was like a sis

But when will the rumors stop

Noone knows the truth not even the cops

My pain is great

I wish we hadnt been late

But when we got there

        there she lay

on her already made bed of

Bloody red roses

Peace be with you little ones,
As you make your journey home,
So early in the day it seems,
To come upon your lives’ sweet gloam.

Peace be with you little ones,
Your smiles brightened up the earth,
And though we might no longer see,
They still in heaven spread their mirth.

Peace be with you little ones,
And those who would your guardians be,
There should be no cost put on lives,
So easily lost in tragedy.

Peace be with you little ones,
As you make your journey home,
So early in the day it seems,
To come upon your lives’ sweet gloam.

When they lay me in the ground
And those who loved me grieve
As my restless soul still wonders
What will become of me

My fate will lie within their hands
Once I'm dead and gone
Will they care if I just pass away
Or see that I pass on

Ashes to ashes returning to earth
Helping my soul understand its true worth
If I pass away I guess it explains
How I've failed as a man again and again

But if I pass on and they carry my torch
I'll realize I've fulfilled, my calling on earth
Death will act much like a rebirth
With my knowledge and influence vindicating my worth

Please let me pass on instead of away
Allow my spirit to live, long past the grave
Breathless and lifeless yet so much remains
This box holds my vessel while Heaven I gain

Refuse to let death become your curse
And on your final day
You'll understand just what it means
To pass on and not away

When I die Im gonna try and fly up to the place high in the sky, I can stop living A lie and
stop wasting the tears from my eyes after all those times I got left behind. But I know I'm
going to hell even though Im going to rebel because Ive lived my life in hell.. Cant you Tell?
Ive faced the worst on earth always being burnt and hurt always thinking im cursed Never
learnt to put my self first and It hurt. Im prepared for this place that Awaits if Get turned
away from the Almighty heavenly gates, Because Ive been to Hell and back. But for now I'm
stuck between Heaven And Hell.

Once in a dream
I attended a funeral service
at this particular church
of an unnamed family member
just before the bell rang
for the service to begin
I had witnessed some apparitions
who mysteriously appeared
silently out of the clear blue

One was of my maternal great grandfather
who passed on two years ago
while the others were of my paternal grandfather
who passed on six years ago
along with several elders of the church
who also passed onto glory
several years into the past

All of them each
appeared separately
at the front of the altar
of the church
kneeling
and
bowing their heads down
with their eyes closed
silently fasting and
whispering prayers towards heaven

When I spotted them
kneeling and praying at the altar
I tried getting their attention
by getting them in my usual manner
but they were all unable to hear me
and afterwards they all just vanished
from out of the church building
the same way they mysteriously appeared

                                                                              Written by: Mia Pratt, 2017
