Pledge of love and loyalty

This pledge that l,Ntando, make today serves
as my guideline that I shall follow
happily, ungrudgingly and tirelessly
for the sake of our love life.
Indeed l am well aware of the fact that
the beauty of this pledge does not only lie
in word alone but in action as well.

For that reason in every season
I shall show steadfast commitment
to the implementation of this pledge
with a great deal of astuteness.
I therefore commit myself to be your
devoted and delivering husband for
all the years l shall live with you
on this earth.

I shall treat you with the love and care
you deserve as my wife.
Indeed l shall treat you with
the distinction and dignity
that is befitting of the queen of my heart.
That body, that bone, that breath
shall be my mine to treasure,
for sure;
a dearness to promote and protect
for dear life…and love!
I shall stand by and with you in all the
situations of our life.
If the situation demands that we sail,
sail we shall together.
If the situation demands that we
climb we shall together.

I know very well what l am getting into:
I am getting into a marriage that is
overflowing with blessings.
This marriage- with our mutual
will stand the test of time.
I know very well what I am getting into:
I am getting into a relationship that
brims over with a transforming power
of love.

This marriage-with our
mutual commitment –
will transform naivety into maturity
troubles into challenges
pretence into practice
pride into progress
bachelorship into companionship.
I pledge to be your steward and partner
for all times.

I shall value the consultations
and decisions that we make as
husband and wife.
As head of the family I shall do nothing

to derail our love train for anything else
least of all for personal and selfish reasons.
Now and forever

I am your lawful and loving husband…
This pledge that l, Nothando, make today serves
as my guideline that I shall follow
happily, ungrudgingly and tirelessly
for the sake of our love life.
Indeed I am well aware of the fact that
the beauty of this pledge does not only
lie in pronouncements but in practice
as well.

For this reason every season
I shall demonstrate untiring love
and loyalty to you;
a love and a loyalty that is a living
embodiment of our marriage vows.
I therefore commit myself to be your
honouring, supportive and loving wife
for all the years l shall live with you.
I shall treat you with the love and care
that you deserve as my husband.
Indeed I shall treat you with
the dignity and nobility that is befitting
of the king of my heart.
On my mind it is always fresh
that I am the flesh of your flesh.
Green or grown

I am the bone of your bone.
I know very well what I am getting into:
I am getting into a relationship that
elevates me into a kingdom of wifehood.
I shall endevour to put my family first
with all the rights, obligations
and privileges that come with wifehood.
I shall endevour to wipe off and ward off
loneliness and lostness from our relationship,
seeking nothing but your companionship;
banking on your stewardship,
sinking together any hardship.
Since you are mine
I shall not do anything else to undermine
our relationship for personal
or egotistical
Now and forever
I am your lawful and loving wife…

A Kiss Under the Mistletoe

Though the night was quite dark, Christmas candles were shining;
The firelight flamed by the tree:
From the ceiling was strung strands of green intertwining,
'Twas mistletoe cut from the lea.

In the room was assembled a party so cheerful,
Young couples so dashing and bright;
And they sang many songs, both the sweet and the tearful,
Or danced Christmas reels through the night.

When the night was advancing, the people disbanded,
Departing in pairs though the snow;
But one girl and her escort stayed late and were stranded
By snowflakes in gales that would blow.

So they sat by the fire, holding hands through the night;
They kissed 'neath the mistletoe green:
And the eyes of the other the prettiest sight,
They thought that they ever had seen.

My Christmas Love

My Christmas love has eyes as warm as cocoa sipped by a cozy fire. A candy cane smile draws me to him. It is a treat to taste sugar plum lips so sweet! Written Dec. 19, 2015 for Kim Merryman's A Christmas Waltz Wave Poetry Contest

I was just trying to remember the past
trying to remember the good people
 and the bad people,
that i came across on my way,

i want you to know
that you are among the good people
that left a good trace in my life,

once again i just want to say thank you
for passing through my life,
is so short but is wonderful
i want you here forever.

Christmas Music

Come caroling on Christmas Day, my love.
Hark merry sounds, one spirit sings as two.
Rise carols high above white turtle dove
In flight with cardinals of reddest hue.
Sing loud of peace and joy and jingle bells
Together as we glide o’er sparkling field.
More music blends with wind and wintry smells -
All spice, pine cones and tasty treats concealed.
Snow powders us in magic, soft and white.

My hands and heart are warmed by you so near.
Until the day retreats in full moon light,
Sing tenderly into my loving ear.
If New Year, like a thief, takes you away,
Could you return to me 'fore Christmas Day?

St Stephen's Day

All year you were doing it

And refused to tell me why.

Each coin given in change

Was dropped into the empty coffee can

And by July, another can was needed.

December brought the Christmas tree

That you decorated with care

And when I asked what gift you wanted

You were annoyed

“We’re not buying anything,” you announced

With that special tone of finality.

Christmas night we sat together

Under blankets on the sofa

And you were happy

And I was lost in awe.

On December 26 you leapt from bed

And shook me awake.

“It’s Saint Stephen’s Day!” you proclaimed

Playfully poking your finger into my side

“Saint who?” I asked.

So all the coins were poured from the cans,

Counted and divided into packages

Of equal amounts before you pulled me

Onto the streets and into dismal alleys

“This is Charlotte,” you told me

And gave her one of the packaged coins.

“This is Thomas,” you later said

And presented him with another of the packages.

You knew all of their names

And I couldn’t understand how

These residents of alleys and park benches and bushes

Were known to you like old friends

I even noticed that Thomas was wearing

That sweater I was missing from the closet

“In Italy,” you told me, holding my face

Within your hands.

“St. Stephen’s Day is a time of giving.

Isn’t it wonderful?”

And in that moment I didn’t know

If the day was wonderful

I only knew that you were.

Christmas Gifts

Him: I chose to sell my last possession
A pocket watch my father gave me
To buy my love a gold comb
She has the fairest hair of gold
But lacks just a comb
I will let go of this watch
For her to own a comb

Her: I chose to cut off my long hair,
My only beauty and pride
That i have kept since alpha
To buy my love a gold watch chain
So that he can wear it in his neck
And smile like the village chief

Him: Honey I bought for you a gold comb
Its the best i could afford
I sold my watch
To get money to buy this
And now Here it is

Her: Sweetie I bought you a gold watch chain
Its the best I could afford
I cut off my hair
And sold it to the barber down street
To buy you this gold watch chain
For you my only love

They all lost the last thing they treasured
For the most thing they desired
To show love
On Christmas
That they so much cared

Secret Wedding at Christmas

Dry leaves carpeted the floor,
'Any objection to the joining of these two?'
No answer, only the snake hisses and the bee buzzes,
Holy matrimony far from family members and friends,
in the thick forest of the western coast under the
great oak tree-the couple stands firmly.

Two hands joined by mother nature with a silver ring,
in the presence of the wind and wood pecker,
Orchestrated music provided by the rustling of leaves,
and far away in the city Christmas is celebrated,
Carols in churches, kids wallow in parks with
amusements and adults in bars with bottles of drinks.

They stand in front of this true Christmas tree,
Rays of hope from the sun illuminate the forest,
The dream of the Two becomes a reality,
Hope of living together in tranquility in focus,
The stage is set for a new life as cupid blesses,
No one,not even the black fly can put asunder.

A Christmas Romance

A Christmas gown worn to delight.
Oh, how I must dress for romance!
My heart skips for his, “Ho, Ho, Ho!”
One kiss then to his sleigh, he goes.

Oh, how I must dress for romance!
A plunging neckline might entice.
Soft candle glow and mistletoe
might slow his pace this whirlwind night.

My heart skips for his, “Ho, Ho, Ho!”
His snow white beard tickles my cheek.
Anticipation weakens me.
A diamond ring waits ‘neath my tree!

One kiss and to his sleigh, he goes,
but New Year’s Day, I’ll make him mine.
I’ll wear a veil of red and white
and Christmas gown for his delight!

Things To Give Away

Tarny was a little bear
A teddy bear he be
Coat was as white as snow
To this we all agree
Tarny was a Christmas gift
Given to a lady fair
Was sent by her Tarnished Knight
How she wished that he was there
Tarny wore a little coat
Where pinned upon his sleeve
A note from her Tarnished Knight
Said "will you read me please "
"Sorry I can't be with you
On this Christmas day
I know its very hard for you
That I'm so far away"
"So I am sending Tarny
For you to now embrace
I will be there very soon
Then I will take his place"
"Tarny has a special gift
He'll make your dreams come true
Just close your eyes and make a wish
You will see what he can do"
Tears now flowed from her eyes
Squeezing Tarny oh so tight
Closed her eyes and made wish
To dream of the Tarnished one tonight
That was some time ago
In another Christmas past
Once there was hopes and dreams
Somehow they didn't last
Tarny now is put away
Never sees the light of day
Shares a space with odds and ends
In box of " things to give away"
Fleece once of snow flake white
Now has stains of crimson red
Came from a broken heart
Oh! how Tarny bled
So if you find a little bear
Slightly stained in red
May not be a teddy
But this Tarnished Knight instead

White as snow

A winter time kiss amidst swirling
snow fall, pure delight wrapped in
a festive mist.

A tender fragment in time, a glimpse
of a future sublime.

Warm lips locking, we cease talking.
For in this sweet moment our worries
are forgotten.

We now see with fresh eyes, washed
white as the fallen snow. Into the blizzard
of life with faces aglow.

We have a purpose and endeavour in faith
hope and LOVE!

our first Christmas

The wind blows through the tress
Dry leafs falling to the frozen ground
So many people lives here
But they don’t make a sound

Snow like a blanket on the grass
Feeling the chill on the tip of my nose
Bouquet of flowers of all colors
Jasmines, pink, red and yellow roses

She talks to me every day
But she don’t let me hold her
And no matter how much I beg her to
Let me rest my head on her shoulders

And she never answers when I said
Please, please come back home
She would just remained right there
And watch me cry and walk away alone

I’m the loneliest man in the world
Since she came to live in this place
I begged her to don’t leave me behind
But she left me with tears my face

Merry Christmas, I love you
She whispers in my ear before she close her eyes
And my hopes, my dreams, my aspirations
My whole life at that moment passes me by

This was to be the first Christmas
We was going to spend together
We was going to roast mash mellows
Drink hot coco and cuddle by the fire

I was going to get on my knees
And propose my love to her
And pray that she said yes
And put the ring on her finger

And I was going take our wedding vow
To love and cherish her for as long as we live
The making her happy every second of her life
Was going to be my only prerogative

But that dream is all gone now
Wash away like the snow in the rain
And no matter how much I pray to god
She will never come back to me again

When someone you love has left you
You lose your will to survive
Shock and sadness consumes you right away
Missing the person that belongs in your life

There is a feeling of missing a part of you
And you are left with sorrow and grieve
You whole world was taken from you
And you are in dismay an disbelieve

I know it’s not your fault to leave
Because you know I miss you so much
And I just stare at my android phone
Can’t call, text, or keep in touch

Now I look at the Snow flakes
Falling Out side of my window
Children making snow mans
In the park below

The trees are all covered white
And glitters like crystals in the sun
Cars driving slowly by
On the wet slippery ground

In the corner of a dark lonely room
Stands a dried old Christmas tree
This was to be our first Christmas
But instead it was our last

Without you its hard to live again
you promise we will, always be together
Now all you leave is your name on a stone
And our first Christmas to spend alone

A Christmas Romance

Julia lived in the Canadian mountains
divorced with two girls four and eight
struggling for work to make ends meet
keeping up mortgage payment sometimes late

At Christmas the snow was heavy
Julia delivered a few presents in her jeep
before getting home high in the mountains
as the snow was now very deep

At the local bank the manager was busy
looking over the mortgage bad payers file
one in particular had missed some payments
looking far worse than rest of the pile

Julia's account was top of the pile
so Gregory the manager took a trip
to give Julia a final demand
in such weather, was he taking a flip?

 Eventually ploughing through the snow
Gregory gave Julia her letter of fate
but in driving away from Julia's
he lost control his car was in a state

Gregory had broken a few bones
in his leg now unable to walk
 so Julia and her girls
helped him even put on his sock

 With no electricity at hand
 Gregory did all he could
for he saw their family spirit
showing to him all things good

 As the snow storm came
indoors for days were they all
 together they grew closer
Julia and Gregory received a love call

 So once the snow cleared
Julia thought never again to see
as Gregory had to go back home
would this love match come to be?

One day Julia was tidying the garden
when Gregory turns up to spring a surprise
he had giving up his job
so together their love mutually would rise

A Christmas girlfriend

Santa whats wrong with you
did u forget me
Why is there no girlfriend
Under my Christmas tree

You know I been a good boy
Didn't give any trouble this year
So tell me where's my gift Santa
Are you still flying in the air

Last year I ask you for a girlfriend
To spend my Christmas in trinidad
But you said I was misbehaving
So you only give one to my brother Azad

Well .2015. I was at my best behavior
You could ask my friends on Facebook
I didn't post not one bad word
Just go on my timeline and take a look

Christmas is almost here Santa
Just one more week to go
And I seeing so many nice single girls
Shopping down in San Fernando

And its so hard for me to choose one
Because the beauty factory in Trinidad never stops
It keeps producing nice girls one after another
The whole country is like one big candy shop

Last year you didn't bring me a girlfriend
Cause you said that I was very bad
But my nephew junior was on the naughty list
But still he has girls in San Fernando, penal and fyzabad

So just jump in your sleigh Santa
And come down to Trinidad and Tobago
And don't worry about that big red coat
Because down here we don't have no snow

santa i know you will like trinidad
and you will want to stay right here
cause you don't like the other countries
its why you visit them only once a year

This is the land of the humming bird
steel pan chutney soca and calypso
And the most beautiful women in the world
You will see where ever you go

So this year you promise me a girl
To spend Christmas with me
To open gifts with on Christmas eve
And cuddle under the Christmas tree

I want to wake up Christmas morning
with my beautiful trinidadian queen
and i will take her for breakfast
up in corinth junction by Naz Cuisine

So Santa don't waste no more time
Cause I'm waiting under my Christmas tree
Just work your Christmas magic
And send a Christmas girlfriend for me

You know that a Trini Christmas
Does have a party every where
Trinidadian like to have their parang
With rum,sorrel and Carib beer

And when Trini cook up their nice food
They does always like to share
So bring a Christmas girl for me Santa
And come and enjoy Christmas down here

Spruce Romance

All my life I have loved spruce trees,
They remind me of a beautiful breeze.

They are so slender and tall,
Rising above all.

Branches thick and refined,
The scent beautiful and kind.

At Christmas the spruce is our favorite tree,
Exquisite and free.

Decorated with love and care,
Seen with beauty so rare.

Bringing happiness to everyone,
Even after Christmas has come.

I love the spruce tree,
May we plant many more, to admire and adore.

Christmas did, Eternal gift

Whole year waited for that day
Its around the corner so near
What i promised to my heart
wish to anyhow fulfill my part

I matter not much in fact at all
Always hold her beyond my fall
My love learned to smile in pain
Eternal happiness she may gain

Eve is near with whispers around
Ah! Am left with so fewer pounds
Let go my passion for love true
Her desires do give me life anew

Arrives the night of pure exchange
Wondrous love let her desire change
Why? Why?Only for me only for me
Both forgo to bring the inner glee

It is Christmas festivity with a bliss
True love and life for other self wish
Not an ordinary present was that
Gift of the Magi our hearts truly felt...

Inspired by a tale on Christmas- The gift of Magi

Regina's Christmas Surprise

I must say I am the happiest girl on the earth
because I have a guy loving me for what I’m worth.
Through my best girlfriend, he made his presence known to me.
Now I have him for my own. Soon, we will both marry.
Now it is December, and Christmas Day will arrive.
This man I know and love makes me feel glad I’m alive!
Somehow, all those lights seem to shine with greater brilliance.
He made me come back from my troubles with resilience.
He’s just like that star at the top of my Christmas tree.
Never in my life have I ever been so happy!

This holiday would bring me a much greater surprise.
Here's Regina’s engagement ring about two-carat size.
This indicates Joe and Regina will soon marry.
She displays it proudly for both Mike and I to see.
With an embrace, I convey my congratulations.
Mike and my mother display genuine elations.
“Joe and I set the date for August,” Regina said.
“That is only three months after you and Mike are wed.
Mike, your cousin Joe is someone I truly adore.
He is the man I’m wanting with me for ever more!”
This Christmas, everything seems so much sweeter to me.
However, I can’t wait for May when I will marry!

New Years Day

Upon awaking this new years day
To think about your face, I, a different way
For within that moment I had riddled some sense
From my body which began to tense
As to hold my mind at bay
I might compare the’ to midsummer’s day
But I with fear rebuke
Dare not repeat Shakespeare’s fluke
So shall I compare to you instead, a season
And to Christmas in this reason
While your skin looks not like snow
But rather a chestnut beside a fire’s glow
And your hair upon light shines bright
Reflects snow whisking through this night
Alas these bodily beauties do the’ justice not
For to Hallmark Christmas I compare the’ not
But rather your spirit of which I speak
That embodies Christmas every week
A gentleness upon your finger’s tips
That forever echoes from your lips
With sincerity in thy acts
A potent remedy, for this world lacks
From battlefields to warring grounds a stronger heart could not be found
In deepest pain or conflict bound your voice speaks out, no harmful sound
With eagerness your mind immerse
To every art form, its joyful verse
And with said joy does come a smile
That in the coldest hearts affection riles
So it is upon this new years day
That by your side I long to lay

Its Christmas tomorrow

Girl please tell me
Tell me what to do
I just can't understand
Why I'm losing you

I can't make your family like me
So I won't even try
But you can't listen to your mother
And tell me goodbye

True love comes along
Only once in a life time
And some people miss the train
But I pull you aboard mines

Girl I love you
With all of my heart
And nothing can put out the fire
That we both start

So please don't go
Please dont go
Please please don't go
Its Christmas tomorrow

This is your life
You are responsible for your choice
Only you can turn down the volume
If you don't want to hear the noise

You know how I feel For you
And I would never cross the line
I don't want to say anything about your parents
But you know their wealth has them blind

Maybe they didn't marry for love
Maybe it was some business arrangement
So don't let them play with your mind
To break off our engagement

I don't have the world
But I have a driving ambition
And providing and making you happy
Is my one and only mission

This is Christmas time girl
And the world is in such a mess
Some live in the middle of wars
And some are fortunate and bless

Let's be thankful for today
This love we have will only grow
Let's open our gifts under the tree tonight
And celebrate this Christmas tomorrow

So please don't go
Please don't go
Please please don't go
Its Christmas tomorrow
