A New How

If you could relive an ancient day, which day, which day, which day would you say?
First kiss, first date
Or undo a mistake?
Watch your child be birthed again
Go back and unhurt a wounded friend?
Unsay a word?
Unbreak a heart?
Undrink that first drink?
Unscar that first scar?
Or would you go to another place
Feel your dad's hands
See your mom's face?
Laugh with your sisters
Let little brother win that foot race
Maybe pet that dog just one more time
Hear grandma recite that old nursery rhyme
Maybe take up for the kid that got picked on
Or hear again for the first time your favorite old song
Or tell your kids you loved them again and again
No matter what they'd just done or how late they had been
But you can't go in reverse to relive any day
What you would have done
Or what you would say
But you can say now what you wouldn't before
You can be someone new open up a new door
You can make a difference in your here and now
You can't be a new when but can be a new how

Qualities of Health Engendering Women

They see strengths
Not the limitations
These are people who will make you proud of yourself
They will tell you why you’re special
Trust you to the point you have to answer their expectations
They make you better than you normally are
You can be proud of yourself
They respect you
For what you’ve done
Where you’ve come from
They see what you’ve experienced something real
Respect you for your courage
They live by their rules
They do not expect you to follow theirs
They are at peace to themselves
They are not proving anything to you
They are good listeners
Sincere in their interest in you
You feel important
They are available for honest
Genuine discussion
Makes you want to share yourself

Pink all day

The old cashmere sweater in my cedar chest
always warming my soul on a winters day
Ice skating with your true love hand in hand
frosty breath brings a warmth to your cheeks

                Anticipating that very first date
first glance the color lightens your way
as if Cupid decided this will be a day like no other
celebrating in stars above Valentine days Forever

It is the day God took hold of your heart and beat it for you ~

Christian Cross

Head hung low, I walk the street-
Timid to feel the hangman's loss-
Every step on my blistered feet-
Takes me closer to, the Christian cross-
With every second, my soul does exhaust-
Heat-ridden cheeks from tears I cry-
Hide my eyes my shame is discreet-
Explain to me God, why must I die?

You say the hunger game I did cheat-
I see on that hangman's rope your hands across-
How close I was to starvation beat-
Why must I die for naught but sauce-
On bread instead of my usual moss-
I hope you see my little child cry-
Although to you unjust is a treat-
Hold him God on the day he will die-

With my head hung low, I walk the street-
My family will feel the hangman;s loss-
No more will I walk upon these blistered feet-
Family go, live your life by the Christian Cross-
For my soul is tired, don't let your life exhaust-
My dear sweet loved ones there is no need to cry-
No more reason for you to stand all so discreet-
I am happy at last, on the day that I die-

I will live the rest of my life upon a Christian's Cross-
These murderers relax themselves on their own lie-
In a few short moments I won't feel anymore loss-
I will lift up my head and all so proudly I will die-

Living Without

I tried to write about love but I haven’t felt it.
I tried to write about the sea but I’ve never seen it.
Then I tried to write about the air, but I have never breathed it.
I tried to write about magic but I never believed it.
I couldn’t write about god, all I have ever done is sinned.
And when I tried to write about life I found,
I have never really lived.

In the City

Sometimes I think of our old flat
where we lived in the city;
Wood floors, wood doors, and an antique stove,
peeling wallpaper and a deathtrap terrace;
But there we shared our first kiss
And ghosts from the past came for a visit.

Sometimes I think of our old park
where we used to go
with old architecture,
the bright flowers arranged just so,
Funny I can't remember
the way to get back
to our old park in the city.

I wish I'd complained less
and spent more time
enjoying young love
and living on our last dime the city.

We Went to Grandma's House

We went to Grandma’s house the other day! And brought some gifts along the way! We enjoyed our time and our wonderful visit We’re glad we had time with her! We wouldn’t miss it! We took her out and did some shopping in town… There were some good buys waiting to be found! We had a chance to have dinner with her too! This was an opportunity we wanted to do! We had a chance to talk about the days of past. Our memories of her, is something that will last! We enjoyed our time with grandma! Yes we did! She always has something worthwhile to give! We thank the Lord for a special grandma like this! Our times together have been happy and bliss! Please take good care of her Lord, is our prayer! Keep her in your tender mercy and care! We look forward to the next time we spend together! She’ll always be our grandma! Today and forever! By Jim Pemberton

I Had Been Away

I missed the chapel down the hall
For I had been away
I longed to see the cross upon the wall
As to where I would kneel to pray.

It is good to be here at last
Where I am amongst my own
I am known on sight to all
For now at last I am truly home.

Before I take my exit
I ask for the Holy Spirit to come
And stay with me throughout this life
Until my work is done.

I remember when I held your hand
And told you about God,
You listened so attentively
And never thought it odd

I remember when I kissed your head
And watched you go to sleep,
We prayed that if you didn’t wake
The Lord your soul would keep

And as you grew I saw your faith
Grow right along with you,
And you included Jesus
In everything you’d do

I became your hero
With me you knew no shame,
Because I followed Jesus
And taught you to do the same

Every time I talked to you
You learned a little more,
You grew and took the things you learned
As you walked out the door

You had your tribulations
And your fair share of strife,
But Jesus had His hand on you
And guided you through life

As it goes, we lived our lives
And struggled through our days,
You chose to follow Jesus
I went the other way

You got big and I got small
As we went through the years,
I got weak and you got strong
You helped me with my fears

I remember you came to the park
And took long walks with me,
You told me Jesus loved me
And He would set me free
I remember when you held my hand
And watched me fall asleep,
And prayed that God would show me
My weary soul He’d keep

Now you’ve become my hero
With you I know no shame,
Because you followed Jesus
And taught me to do the same

The Sacred Harp Sol

* *
Double Springs Sacred Harp Singing is where
voices blend in a harmonious accord
We practiced a trio a harp to share
Sherburne shape notes rise from the covered
Time has flown as we reach the edge of town
Little songs everywhere filling air so sweet
jumping from the wagon feet hit the ground
running ahead never missing a beat
Picnic tables a woman holding her child
A man nips he thinks no one is looking
In church standing room only yet all smiles
A flirt in church He’s on the wrong footing
he keeps taping the woman on her toes
Song leader takes center square grace bestows

The Sacred Harp Mi

* *
Settling for pause this an all-day affair
then outside grace was said then all do feed
Lots of kissing and hugging kinfolk share
A new baby on quilt sweet dreams he sleeps
Children run and play men talk of horses
As the women are talking up a storm
We sing our trio to the choruses
Family reunion of the Sherburne
Back inside join again the next refrains
In double springs overflowing melody
Feast of love and joy singing the Lord reigns
Enriching making the faith’s heart wealthy
Times change but some traditions never part
Singing and plucking the strings of the heart

The Sacred Harp Fa

* *
Singing and plucking the strings of the heart
the morning strums as horizons take wing
We gather momentum the sacred harp
The sun warms cold in trees little songs sing
Answered prayers from the night before
Longing to go but town is far away
but thanking God that He opens the doors
Still our home is sweet where we learn and play
Blue skies do shine in through the wagon bow
Me and the girls watch home into green blend
Sis’s and I haven’t been to town since the snow
a convention is there we’ve never been
exited Pa says it’s like a church fair
Double Springs Sacred Harp Singing is where

The Sacred Harp La

song leader takes center square grace bestows
He faces the altos tenors behind
Basses left trebles right Spirit bellows
Lesson for today called out and timed
as trained and untrained voices collide
Church harmony is ringing like a bell
Seems like the praises fill then flow worldwide
an amazing pure brook songs fill the well
Drawing as chords rise and fall even more
Press into the hall as the voices swing
Sacred harps delight hearts are restored
Messengers for heaven joy’s double spring
Sounds of love a glow hearts flow through the air
settling for pause this an all-day affair

I took a ride

I took a ride,
To the sprawl.
To the house,
Where I was raised.
I couldn’t read the number on the gate
Its floorboards stained by rage and forgotten memories
The roof crumbling
With misremembered days.

I took a ride,
To the sprawl.
To a school,
Where we were forced to praise,.
Saved by death,
Beaten to exorcise our evil ways

I took a ride,
To the sprawl.
To a perfect town with false Ideas
And pretentious ways .

Bright shining light
In my dark soulless eyes
I hear a voice, filled with no concept of real life.
“Do you know what time it is?”
“Yes sir, It’s the first time I’ve felt like something is mine,
and I have something to give”
The lost defender of the sprawl
Said, “Well, where do you live kid?”
Blankly I reply
“Well sir, If you only knew
How much that answer is worth,
I’ve been searching every corner
Of the earth.”

I took a ride,
To the sprawl.

Read the Book of Proverbs
each and everyday
absorb everything that is written
because someday it will save your life
Jehovah will always be your guide
if you keep him close to you
in the mantle of your heart, soul and mind
stay obedient to the doctrine of his son
pray for him to cleanse you in his blood
ask the Holy Spirit to develop your spiritual gifts
be prepared for his end of age return to earth
and look forward to your name
being scribbled into the Book of Life
so you can be in union with him forever

Silent Night the heaven's sang
While shepherds wathced their sheep.
With Camels bearing kinds on high
To lay reverrently at HIS feet

Gold and Frankinsense and Myrhh
the symbols of His life.
A life so filled with sweetness
With love and full of care
Of helping a brother on his way
of lending a shoulder to share
the burdens of this wicked world

The Trails and temptations
of Satan who strews our way
with Pitfalls and damnation

He gave us a path
that we may follow
a path so filled with light
That if we choose the lighted path
then nothing can transpire
To take away the joys of life

And bring to all we know
A truly Christian feeling
One that will set hearts aglow

So on this festive morn
Let every Christian born
Listen to that silent plea
be good, be brave and follow Me.

Near, Yet Far

Oh, where has that young child gone?
Where now is that young boy -
the one with cute and chubby cheeks,
the one with eyes of joy?

His eyes were blue and innocent.
His skin was pure and smooth.
Obeyed, he did, his parent's rules.
His heartaches, mom would soothe.

He listened with attentive ears
and he obeyed advice.
Some thought he was a bit naive,
but he was simply nice.

His peers would laugh, make fun of him,
his pants short, second-hand.
His shoes had worn up through the soles
inviting stones and sand.

He often sat in deepest thoughts -
just God and him alone -
discussing unknown future times
that only God had known.

So work, he did, through day and night
with utmost sacrifice.
But forty years was all for naught
and it would not suffice.

His father died, then mother too,
on sad and lonely days.
Her words of comfort vaporized
in many tear-filled ways.

A glimpse of him, I thought I had
inside my soul of gloom -
and moisture filled, again my eyes,
inside my life of doom.

He lived in distant era, so
removed from current time -
I can't go back. Corruption is
a crass and dirty crime.

If, for a moment, I could fill
his worn-out humble shoes,
I'd long to stay again right there.
I know that's what I'd choose.

I'd seize upon his innocence
before those truths that are -
but I stare into mirror now,
for boy that's near, yet far.

The one with cute and chubby cheeks,
the one with eyes of joy -
oh, where has that young child gone?
Where now, is that young boy?

Heirlooms in the sky

A star born to die, lead and rise
Shepherds quake and wise do realize
A child is born a son is given
The cost of life, love is driven
For God, so loved the world
Heaven’s breath man pearled
The Son of God in all His glory,
to the lost the only love story
Daystar on high, the praise of Israel
The Morning Star, to His son’s is real
The Scepter reigning on high
Look for Him now, while He is nigh
This Gospel,with all shining light
Is for you, unless you love night
Darkness within, from which He saves
Ancient glorious star the end of days
Ask Him now, before your little light fades
The star comes again but there will be no shade
The light of world, so glorious you will weep
Mourning for the only Son, who loves the sheep
