Blackbirds In The Rain

blackbirds in the rain walking among the fallen leaves under the old mango tree with dripping leaves bathing the grass below blackbirds diligently lifting the rain soaked fallen leaves peering underneath for insects and worms flushed out by the drizzling rain pausing to gulp one down then scooting off again searching for more sitting under the shed with raindrops playing their music on the galvanised sheet roof with a beat that resonates within my inner being putting me in a trance connecting me to the rain and the puddles on the ground with the raindrops gently tapping the water's surface creating rings that collide with one another disrupting their individual shapes creating a dynamic new pattern reflecting their unity and bubbling with energy in the drizzling rain O what a deep feeling of peacefulness and serenity with the rain the dripping leaves and the puddles serenading my spirit with the eternal song of Nature and merging it into the Unity Of All Things
It was raining today. There was a constant drizzle for hours. I sat in a shed attached to the house, watching the blackbirds in action in the rain, searching for their food. The constant rhythmic sound of the rain on the galvanised sheet roof of the shed and the gentle drama playing out in the backyard with the blackbirds was a spiritual experience for me connecting me with Nature and the unity of all things as mentioned in the last verse. .

my cloud

on my-
diaphanous    gossamer filmy cloud-
sumptuous I float woebegone

flowers   far   and below

and bluebirds come
fluttering in the azure sky
twittering and its

gossamer filmy cloud-sumptuous

the gobbledygooks with their nonsense
far   and below
and bluebirds come drifting

from the garden and forest they fly
my diaphanous

the dullards with their yada yada
come with their hokum nattering

and I
yell    hey you
get off my cloud-
sumptuous     you  you

twittering and twittering
assemblage    of fluttering

whispering   hissing
with meaningless words
you keep off my diaphanous
gossamer    filmy     cloud

oh gentle breeze

             take this dreamer and flower picker
of buttercups    violets
I see them swaying far and below
                           in the meadows lovely
and I recall the little girl me
who picked them
                       for mothers kitchen ledge

oh let me drift and see far and below
on my
diaphanous   gossamer cloud-

Sharma's Song

Our garden perimeters
are hung with notes
A thrush sings its morning songs.

No other of its kind dares cross
these musical borders of trilling notes

Would that we - could defend our boundaries with songs
instead of bombs.

A Child's Peace

Tell me of your peace.
Let it tell your story now
Of trials and tribulations, a tale not of dreams
Weary from a journey of self-discovery
My child, know the comfort in your peace
You feel hope in this familiar place
As it gently sloughs the pain away
Tell me of your peace
In which we all are blessed and free
Search throughout your soul sweet child
Peer not within your cluttered mind
Look out to rest your tired eyes but do not let them see
Solace found strewn upon daily thoughts is fleeting at it's best
Lasting merely moments, in untouched souls a true peace
Oh yes! You'll know when you arrive but only you will know
The world will melt away as a candle left under the blazing sun
Away away, until you feel home again, an unguided familiar scene
An innocence once lost is restored, all sins suddenly forgiven
Soaking this in with relucant ease,
Breathe it deep with a slow release
Take it in, delight in details you discover
Be calm here child, please have no fear, I am here
You are safe in this place of yours, no hurt no tears
We share not the same peace, no no
Unique to each of us, yet stranger to none
Trust in more than what you see, know beauty is within reach
We share this unspoken bond of freedom from ourselves
Please young one, listen closer now
I say, leave it all behind you love, it will only weigh you down
Cleanse yourself of careless words and careful lies
I know you're weary, let go of all you carry
Don't be afraid, here you are burden free
Trust in you, blessed one, it's easier than you believe
Sweet child, tell me now if you see
Peace resting deep within
Waiting for you
For you to let it be

Feathered Faith

Nature be my religion;
Prayer be my dominion.
Words felt but unwritten;
In fields of green and crimson.

I am a dreamer and a drifter;
A non–conformist, resister.
The wind is my whisper;
And the moonlight my sister.

I wear flowers in my hair;
Quote Shakespeare and Voltaire.
Have no qualms to swear;
Can make peace or warfare.

I prefer the solitude;
Depending on my mood.
But if a smile be the prelude;
Another may intrude.

The songs I sing are old;
The stories all foretold.
In tradition I enfold;
My blessings, manifold.

Two worlds, present and past;
Dwelling within the contrast.
Enigma or social miscast;
Artistry of life enthusiast.

Born to late;
To change the world's fate.
Too early to liberate;
Just in time to celebrate.

As storm clouds appear;
Between two world's frontier.
I look to those I most revere;
The prophet and the seer.

As we enter the eye of the storm;
The birds of prey become worn.
But in the early hours of the morn;
Sparrow's and crow's flight is born.

Center in the midst;
Find your balance to persist.
Take a hand, release a fist;
We're right on time to co–exist.

''The Walk''

~*~ Many birds are singing in the forest green, and in my ears Bach's "Air in C" is playing; Soon, I come to water falling into a ravine, the lush foliage all about me is swaying. Unseen, those birds sing in unison sweet, and bright flowers grow in the dappled sun; Oh, sing me songs little birds- tweet, tweet, and baby squirrels like kittens play and run. Then, I come to forever green meadows, where wildflowers dance and crows glide; And in my ears Bach's "Air in C" still flows- How sweet my tranquility and peace inside. ___________________ May 23, 2017 Rhyme/"The Walk" Copyright Protected, ID 903777 June Premier Contest Brian Strand Seventh Place

Pictures in my mind

                                                Float on
                                               The River
                                            Along the shoreline
                                       As the birds seem to follow me
                        Flying tree to tree, they are full of life, happily
My journey is just a restful one, a day in the life of nature, fresh air and the sunshine
I float in the precious moment that passes by with these sights like treasures to find, painting pictures to hang, with thoughts in my mind

Soaring High

Soaring High
Looking up I spot a bird; floating in the sky just soaring way up high. Graceful with wings spread never seeming to move slowly he circles around. In the distance another calls out as joining in this dance in the sky! The two ever higher begin their decent slow and mythological. What feels like hours I watch enjoying the sight drifting downward? What beauty the two birds display as they dare soar closer with each pass.
 At last I can tell their hawks. A pair I’m sure for they fly together and call out to one another. I watch as one pauses on a tree limb looking about. The other still circling above and calls out once again. An answer comes from the beauty on the limb.
Amazed I watch the other land on the bird bath. What a sight to see as the smaller one now splashes in the bath. Clean and dry off she flies into the trees. The big hawk again into the sky higher and higher I watch him soar. Soon he’s high enough it’s difficult to tell this graceful soaring bird is the hawk from my backyard. A cry from afar and then he too disappears from my sight.
I find myself looking up watching and waiting for soaring high I’ll see my hawks. The graceful dance in the sky I know will lead them to the bird bath along with the branch where he sits and waits. A cry will sound in the distance alerting me of their intended arrival. My hawks will soar high circling with grace till they dare once more visit a while.
                                                                                              Debbie Knapp.

Farm life

Farm life.

There is a barn on this farm;
Personally, I think that it has character and charm.
Other people’s opinions may differ from mine,
But I won't allow them to waste my good time.

This time is mine to waste away,
So who are you to blemish this beautiful day?
Song birds sing as morning breaks in two;
Split the night apart and let the sunlight shine through.

If time is all we have, then we can be poor and in love.
We may not have any money,
But we can still enjoy the country.

The cows are grazing and the farmer is blazing,
The hay in the fields, he no longer needs to ball.
I ask him why he came here
And he tells me it is because he heard the call.
The call of nature; the sheep are saying baa.
He doesn't predict the future, but we both know that one day,
This place of tranquility will be overtaken by a city full of cars.

The Twilight Moor

Gazing out upon dusky barren moor,
Where gray grass grasps the air
Finding no purchase but sad allure
Straight stalks elapse their endless despair.

Teased by tales of golden reach
Tricked by gales, whose song they preach.

Redtail’s velvet wings breach the sky,
Maroon lips who kiss the grass
Stirring the song, its desperate sigh
Catching the words, her beak of crystal glass

Behind her, midnight shadow draws
Fells her beauty with unseen charcoal paws

Scarlet tears dampen the earth below
Nurture the roots held by dusty truth
Finally, the wind, gray grass’ will bestow
The hawk once, now the fountain of youth.

Litany of silence reigns in dusky glare,
Each blade bowed in mournful prayer.

The Old Tree

It is strange
how things that we see
and take for granted
in everyday life
should suddenly instil
in our minds
a new awareness
of their presence

A silent moment
a brief pause
from life's ever quickening pace
a moment of peace -
in times like these
a common thing
like a dried old tree
becomes alive with beauty

It stands like a quiet sentinel
who has witnessed
many an event
through time
Time has passed by
but it remains
silently standing there
O Tree!
What secrets do you store
in your noble branches?
How many events have you recorded
that man knows nothing of?

In your younger days
when you wore your mantle of green
you nested the carefree birds
to their offspring
you gave protection
When the sun scorched the earth
you gave them cool shade
On a cool windy night
you gave them warmth
How pleasant was their song
to your ear
as they sang a song of thanks
to you

You were a playmate to the children
When they romped at your feet
or climbed on your branches
you smiled
Time grew older
and the children became lovers
You saw them kiss in your shade
soft with the light of the moon
The aura of their love
touched your leaves
and you blushed

they have all gone away
but you still remain
silent sentinel
still waiting and watching
How many untold events
have you witnessed
faithful keeper of secrets?

O that my soul could commune with you
and share of your rugged beauty!
Most Noble Tree!
forgive me for my
once-waxen eyes

songs from the woods

            walking silently with the spirits of the woods
             the stunning acquaintance of a snowy Owl
             Hearing songs from many around yet not seen or found
             careful your crossing a coral snake or copperhead
             preparing to wave all rights to see beauty to live
             one piercing bite from the red and yellow snake
             deadly shy snake sudden death may await your fate

             stillness and earth is touched with Cherokee blood
             many tribes with sage and fires dances the brave
             you see the wild mustangs ride and deer in mind
             the squirrels the rabbits and wolves you hear
              the woods once a many land to explore
              becomes extinct with Mans desire to build more

The Barn Owl

In silent air on silent wing
the deadly flight to one will find
unwelcome communion in the gloom
that hails the never-ending night

The heart shaped face belies the truth
imparting spiritual grace

a flash of white then empty space

If A Little Bird

If a little bird should say:
You're Boring, Cheerless
But do everything you've got to,
Should you Answer or Reply?

For its not what that "bird" says,
But what God said for you to do,
He will show the way.

Use his Word as a Lamp for your feet,
As you journey along the way.
He knows where He's leading you
Just trust him and obey!

Placed here on earth at a Particular Time
and on a Specific Date;
With a destiny that's Unique to only you.

Born at a time when you could be
most useful,
For you wouldn't fit into past history.

So be ALL in this time you're in
To go down into real-time history of now;
As the Lord chooses to make use of you.

You may not be famous 'cause its not
your role,
But do tasks as God would have you do.

With Inspired imagination, finding ways
To help others, letting them know that
He is real.
Use what gifts he has implanted upon you.

Birds Chirping

Birds chirping in the trees
Singing of peace and serenity
Like the ocean breeze
Soothing and cooling to the skin

Sun kissed tanning
A bronze color that gleams
Gleams like the sun rays
Hi lights on a page

The importance of its meaning
Note taking, studying
Searching deeper to comprehend
Fallen leaves in Autumn

Deeply rooted beginning with a seed
Using the process of eliminating
New leaves rearranging
New melodies becoming a different arrangement

To listen is to learn, To learn is to listen

Save the Words

Save the Words shut the virtual world down and cut the words from your heart oh they're just waiting to be found- a brook with double meaning take solace in the peace radiating from your mind a pacifist's gift of eternal slumber save the words, save the words don't be afraid to accept the change coming on the horizon there's time to change the train you're riding and switch from tracks of copper to tracks of gold because what's worth feeling is worth finding oh please save the words, just save the words a beautiful mind is in the eye of a child the view of a bird is a beautiful scene two hearts beating as one is the greatest drum solo the world is the hand that feeds and these days some don't know what to fight for when what is right today is wrong tomorrow and sometimes we shelter ourselves in our own beliefs shielding our hearts to the beliefs of others and these days we don't know what to fight for save the words, save the words place them in a golden basket of wheat and watch flowers burst forth wild and free from the golden serenity a beautiful mind is in the eye of a child the view of a bird is a beautiful scene two hearts beating as one is the greatest drum solo the world is the hand that feeds and one day we shall find the meaning in love so shut the virtual world down and cut the words from your heart oh they're just waiting to be found- a brook with double meaning take solace in the peace radiating from your mind a pacifist's gift of eternal slumber save the words, save the words oh save the words, please save the words and united the world stands to revolve in gold on the hinges of a traumatic yesterday wrapped in plastic because with joy we can swing forth with the gift of a smiling world just save the words, save the words: understanding, acceptance, and tranquility

Freedom Reigns

"'Cause when your back's against the wall
That's when you show no fear at all
And when you're running out of time
That's when you hitch your star to mine
We won't be leaving by the same road that we came by"

~Keane - My Shadow Lyrics ~

------------------------------------------------------------ There is no celestial place for you to guide my thoughts Can you not see that I am free from you? I am a black bird perched high in the treetops You will hear my crowing and you may hate it But my dear, you cannot take away my voice! Yet still, as fire oppresses forests of life, You can abuse my freedom to find your glory You may discard these words for your love of gods, And in so doing you may simply ignore All the cries that I so passionately utter But my infectious species will guide your mind straight back To that once so lonely treetop where you merely glanced And there will be multitudinous, oppressing thoughts That shall enslave you and bind you unwillingly The crows will only grow louder when you turn away— When you pretend to ignore with your remaining, strangling pride For my voice is a production sent from above Dispatched to judge you pitilessly for your swelling lies! And the choirs of ferocious beaks shall open forever Harmony and dissonance as one

Gods Perfect Plan

Today I saw a bird in flight and began to wonder why
God made us to walk on earth and made the bird to fly

Then I began to think way back when I was just a kid
I often dreamed of flying then some time I think I did

I still can see me flying high while looking down below
oh' the dream it was so neat I wish it had been so

God had a plan for man and what he wanted him to be
it wasn't flying through the air or swimming in the sea

But now as I think back on this I see God's perfect plan
he never meant for beast or foul to take the place of man

Yes he made the birds to fly and made the beast to roam
but man he made to rule them all and walk the road alone

Then God saw that it was wrong not to give the man a mate
so he took a rib from Adam's side and women he did make

God put them in a garden there and took great care of them
now I think you know the rest what separated them from him

But God still had a plan for man and sent him Jesus Christ
and now we have to pray to him to forgive us of our past

now I still dream of flying high and know some day I can
when Jesus Christ will take us home forever to be with him

The Pond In Its Glory

Gentle ripples on the water
Set in motion by a slight breeze
Move quietly on the pond's surface
With gracefulness and effortless ease

A fishing bird flies in suddenly
Skimming the pond's surface with its feet
Then dives headfirst into the water
In its search of a meal to eat

Something just broke the water's surface
Forcing me to full attention
I can see now an eye and the nose
Of a fledgling baby caiman

A bird's neck appears from the water
In its beak, there's a struggling fish
One gulp and the fish disappears
That was indeed a tasty dish

Water lily pads bob up and down
In harmony with the rippling water
Their crimson blooms standing upright
Sprinkled among the lilies cluster

Feeding close to the water's edge
There's a roving group of small fishes
They nibble on the morsels they find
Among roots of water grasses

I treasure sitting here in silence
Observing the pond in its glory
It fills me with such peacefulness
And deep feelings of tranquillity

A Walk Toward Love

Wars and desolation,
tears and separation
made angels weep over the dead...
seeing all the wounds that bled.

A walk toward love can bring lasting peace,
hands in hands to strengthen togetherness;
a walk toward love can stop all madness...
let's take away the tight chains of frustration,
how can anyone prosper in dire deprivation?

They must fly higher than the beautiful geese;
angels will be overjoyed with happy tears,
they will even dance around God's throne,
we will hear them from above playing violins...
and they will fly down to earth to atone,
to share the glory we have not known.
A walk toward love can unify the entire Humanity
into one family where all can really love;
a walk toward love is the beginning of equality,
merry music will be sung in the holy grove!
Let's stop the anger that start violent riots,
let angels share our joys, not our sorrows;
they cheer when people are saved, not slain;
they smile with tenderness and sing a refrain.

A walk toward love can stop the throwing of a cold stone,
a walk toward love makes hope grow in a heart so alone;
dry every face and restore their faith in their lost dreams,
embrace them and give them the warm smile of hope...
a peaceful world is built on a love that doesn't set limits,
we can live free only when we don't try to hinder the scope.

Winter's Silent Beauty

Alone I sit
staring at the cold grey sky
All around
winter's handiwork
so silent
so beautiful
fills the land

Drifting lazily upwards
pillars of smoke
rise ghost-like
from the chimneys
On the ground below
the freshly fallen snow
so quiet, so fragile
instils deep peace
within my soul

Standing alone in the distance
a church steeple
points majestically towards the sky
in silent testimony
of its God

Nothing stirs -
the sparrows have gone to bed
this cold winter's evening
dreaming pleasant dreams
of tomorrow's spring
when new life will take form
in Nature's world
or perhaps they dream
of yesterday's summer
when they flitted happily
from tree to tree
dancing in the sunshine
so happy to be alive
and free

Yet, dream on
my little friends
for even while you dream
cold winter must reign
a little while longer
still blessing the earth
with her deep silent beauty
--- as now the snow begins to fall
once more

A Place Where We All Can Find

Birds swooping down.
Angrily squawking at each other.
Viciously biting each other.
They do not understand that every bird has a different heartbeat.
The birds cannot exist together due to being closed-minded.
Slowly, the birds learn and start to repopulate; bringing in a new species.

There is color everywhere.
Splashes of purples, reds, blues, and pinks against a green canvas.
Other colors, such as, white, orange, black, and yellow flutter past each other.
At first the colors avoid each other, growth coming to a halt.
The colors then decide to join.
New colors flourish with each other.

We destroy each other.
We are very intellectual.
However, how can birds and flowers coexist but we cannot?
So let us open our gates that we have kept closed for so long.
Take a deep breath and listen for beating hearts.
For we are all but heart beats.

There is a place.
A place with coexistence and harmony.
A place where freedom is always accessible on china plates.
The gates will forever be open.
This place welcomes all.
You are welcome to this garden.
