I do not know?
Inspired by Andrew Wyeth Watercolor Painting -- Wind From the Sea, 1947
Standing in the old house
A strange mixture of feelings erupt within me
My roommates Depression, Loneliness, and Hopelessness
Greet me with strangling arms and leering grins
I don’t fight them anymore – somehow they are a part me
So together, in this house, in this room
We endure the somber solitude of the day
A sudden chill fills the room
Death enters – its foul breath chokes me
My three companions prostrate themselves
Pressure builds in my bowels
Bile rises in my throat
A heavy weariness fills my bones
He’s calling – hissing my name
I can’t breath
Death surrounds my soul – crushing me
I hear groaning . . .
Strange guttural sound -- it’s coming from me
Deep painful darkness fills me
I beg Death to take me . . .
Through the open window
A gush of wind enters
A sheer curtain hanging comes to life
It’s spirit lifts inwards and up beckoning me to dance
What is this wonder?
A limp ragged curtain – faded, stained, frail -- has life
Reaching toward me . . . frayed fingers of thread motioning
Old friends rush to me – Joy, Hope, Love
Death’s grip slips – I gasp a breath
Looking up I see the open window
Boarded by old bare wood, hard with age
I realize it’s daylight now – soft shadows
A curving road leading to the water
I can taste the saltiness in the wind
Trees in the distance
A calling from the sea
Seagulls, waves, laughter
Joy breaths into my nostrils
Leave this place – Depression cannot hold you
Simple pleasures I will give you
Cool breeze on a summer afternoon
Laughter of friends
A walk in the garden
The Sea . . .
Depression laughs in my ears
Through that window lies heartache, treachery, poverty, misery
It will chew your insides up – blood will pour from your lips
Pain and suffering awaits if you leave this house
Death waits to take you home
An end to this constant noise – the peace of total emptiness
Another breeze and Hope fills my eyes with light
I see colors – vibrant alive filling me with warmth
Leave this place, take a journey to the sea
Let light fill you and be your guide . . . see -- opportunities abound
For laughter, love, forgiveness . . . for life – abundant life
See the rainbow upon the Sea
Hopelessness rushes toward me
Kisses my lips and whispers
Light burns and blinds
They will see clearly your secrets
Spotlight focus – ridicule scorn . . . ugly disgust . . . self-hatred
Love rushes in and embraces me
Light, fresh, empowering
My heart leaps with pleasure
Arm and arm she leads me to the window
Much pain and sorrow – yes . . . also Love
A powerful love that transforms, refreshes . . . frees
Breathe deeply of the Sea air – fill your lungs
Go – you are loved deeply and completely

The Tale below was carved one night,
Upon the Stone, by candlelight
...most won’t believe, but some just might
.........most won’t believe, but some just might
Well James made Beth his lovely bride
(And angels smiled, though teary eyed)
...their bodies bound, their spirits tied
.........their bodies bound, their spirits tied
Upon her hand, a shimmer shone,
As bright as blood, a ruby Stone
...and brighter still, as love had grown
.........and brighter still, as love had grown
Soon James was sent to man a sail
So Beth removed her wedding veil
...her eyes were bright, her face was pale
.........her eyes were bright, her face was pale
“Well, I’ll be here when you return”
Said Beth to James, who kissed in turn
...a kiss that made her body burn
.........a kiss that made her body burn
. BETH’S TALE
1. The Dream
One night, within a dream deformed,
The cawing of a Crow informed
“...a Ship was stripped where winter stormed
.........a Ship was stripped where winter stormed
Midst winds and waves the thunder boomed
The Ship of Death was surely doomed
...the sea engulfed, the sea entombed
.........the sea engulfed, the sea entombed
Your James... denied by Davy Jones!
His spirit gone, his flesh and bones
...are resting now amongst the Stones
.........are resting now amongst the Stones”
2. The Quest
Awoken by the ebon Wight
And beckoned by the baneful bight
...I left before the morning light
.........I left before the morning light
Throughout the realm I rode a roan
Until, in time, I reached the Stone
...where shades and dreams in darkness groan
.........where shades and dreams in darkness groan
While skipping up and down the sky
A missing moonbeam mocked my eye
...enough to make a Swallow cry
.........enough to make a Swallow cry
For someone stole a star or two
And something else that fate withdrew –
...my jewel of joy, my James Bijou
.........my jewel of joy, my James Bijou
The shadows of the evening swelled
Where demons of the dusk had dwelled
...and in the far, a vesper knelled
.........and in the far, a vesper knelled
The Stone, beneath the sky, stood cold –
Between the runes, a vapour strolled
...a cloak of fleecy fog consoled
.........a cloak of fleecy fog consoled
A Raven on a branch, enthroned,
Her wings waved once, a wail intoned
...beyond the bay, a banshee moaned
.........beyond the bay, a banshee moaned
I lay beside the Stone, his bride
I lay beside the Stone and cried
...but were it I, instead, that died
.........but were it I, instead, that died
The rainbow of the moon fell dim
A midnight Swan soon ceased to swim
...as if to hide all hint of him
.........as if to hide all hint of him
Between the willows in the swale
There sang a Bird, a Nightingale
...which left me faint and feeling frail
.........which left me faint and feeling frail
I felt him breathe within a breeze
Responding to my anguished pleas
...and leaves blew by abandoned trees
.........and leaves blew by abandoned trees
“I miss you too, my darling Beth”
Re-echoed from the Ship of Death
...the future buried in a breath
.........the future buried in a breath
The Stone lit up a ruby sheen
And clouds were kindled crystalline
...with consequences, unforeseen
.........with consequences, unforeseen
Above, the wretched Raven soared
To where the Ship of Death lay moored
...beneath, the icy ocean roared
.........beneath, the icy ocean roared
I’m joined with James beneath the Stone,
Though to the Ship my spirit’s flown,
...for nevermore to be alone
.........for nevermore to be alone
That night the wayward winds were weird
The Ship of Death had disappeared
...coyotes called and mortals feared
.........coyotes called and mortals feared
At dusk, the craven shadows crawled
At dawn, the winds of mourning called
...upon the Stone two names were scrawled
.........upon the Stone two names were scrawled
The Raven sits, with wings outspread,
Atop the Stone which shades the dead
...it sometimes shimmers ruby red
.........it sometimes shimmers ruby red
Between the sounds, where silence seeps,
Their love lives on and never sleeps
...and yet, the weeping willow weeps
.........and yet, the weeping willow weeps

~Moon & Sea~
Hey, boy won't you open that door?
Let's sing and walk by the shore
Come and spread out your eyes
Block looking for reasons, and ways?
The cosmos are more than a space to explore
Don't hide when I need.... Plus more.
Finish playing a master in disguise!
Let's find the perfect sunrise, sunset surprise.
Put your arms around me
Allow your moon to reflect off my sea
Too much time has passed you by
Come outside with and view the horizon up high
I've got my eyes set upon you
There's no need to feel blue
Hey, boy comes, climb up this tree!
I'm going to show you all the things you can't touch, you can't see.
Let's fit the luxury and beauty of this world into our play.
Don't say them words that will set me free to walk away.
Take this kiss and see how it feel deep within your heart.
Close your eyes in my garden, and draw with the fragrance of art
I want to take you into that space, astronomy love.
Making it easy to float with the clouds way up above.
Glide away from the blame of gravity and self-destruct.
A bounce of the dust of hurt when you fall and get cut.
Boy, let's hold in this perfect air together.
Leave the cold end of someone else's weather.
Follow me beyond the distance of chemistry.
I will expose your moon and explain the physics of my sea.
Give it another chance and you will see!
Your moon, is skin deep, needing water from me.
Turn on the tune in your heart, and listen to me.
In every sunrise, the moon entwines with the sea.

I see the pain
Reflected via turquoise blue
Of the oceans hue
She stares out into the oceans depth
Her lover dead under the sea
The waves have made her destiny
I stare at her
From a hill above the shore
Her pain cripples me such
That I can not move
How can I love this woman so
The small of her back
Invites me to hold her
Caress her tears into the sea
The salt water offers comfort
Massaging her feet
The sun glitters with hopeful endeavors
That neither of us feels at all
I am in love with this woman
Since a wee child long ago
Her pain is my pain
Yet my guilt I carry alone
We both will stand hand in hand
To bury her husband
As I keep secret my love and desire
Only wishing her sadness to ebb
Into the sea that took hold of part of me
My brother I loved and honored
So on the hill above the shore
I stare at the woman I always adored
Oh brother forgive me my thoughts
As I wish to comfort your lovers broken heart

She collected sea shells, I collected sand
She collected sea shells,
I collected sand
She searched for the perfect one
I reached down my hand
I carried a bucket
A basket she did whirl
Mine was filled with tiny grains
Hers with mother of pearl
She came out each morning
Me, just late at night
She adored the sunrise
I loved the moon light
Then one day it happened
My alarm clock didn’t ring
I woke to a rising sun
It was the weirdest thing
I ran down to the shoreline
My bucket in my hand
It’s then I saw her gorgeous face
While I collected sand
I found a perfect seashell
And watched her eyes grow wide
She held out her basket
I placed the shell inside
Then she reached down before me
And gathered in her hand
I held out my bucket
She filled it up with sand
And now each day and evening
We walk along the shore
She told me that she loves me
And her I do adore
So if you see us out there
Strolling hand in hand
Know...she’s collecting sea shells
And I’m collecting sand
This is one I posted when I first arrived here, I thought I'd share it again. :)

The horizon was brewing ominous clouds,
Dark as if they came out of hell.
The once azure sky became hazy
As the north wind chilly breezes
Puffed up more stratocumulus,
Rain-heavy clouds that signified storms.
I rested against the balustrade
Of the promenade, looking down at the sea.
Waves upon waves dashed at the dark crags.
Sea spray washed my tired face.
Above the seagulls came to enjoy
The thunderstorm that would soon erupt
Above the small bay, now emptied of boats.
The sea gulls were indeed a sight to see.
Only a hundred or so circled the inlet.
They were truly a harbinger of storms.
They flew against the wind, or with it,
Or soared above it, much as they felt like it.
They plunged into the sea for food
Irrespective of where the chilly wind blew.
They were an elegant sight to see.
As the first drops of rain fell, I betook myself home.
My wife was waiting anxiously for me
Afraid I’ll get wet. “Watching the birds?”
Clearly she was not very much amused.
She turned her back on me, as thunder boomed
And lightening flashed but I went with the wind,
And clasped her round her winsome waist.
She did not resist, neither did I.

Memories of the North Sea
sift in like sand kernels
on a fast, frigid tide:
events that transpired outside
the confines of rhyme,
as they were meant to.
Never before had I seen
so many shades of gray;
the overcast, monochromatic splendor
instead of being bleak and bleary.
The smell of salt and seaweed
awakes something dormant and eternal,
deep within me.
I have a surging desire
to flush stagnancy from my blood—
salty blood and water
come together in a communion
of distant relations and movements.
Beside me, a flash of bright red
digs in the sand; my child
is wearing the only vibrant colour
to be seen for many kilometres.
The colour matches her
enthusiasm and energy,
as she moves from one spot to the next
like a dancing flame;
reflected, a fire glows from my eyes.
Unknowingly, I had dressed
in the same colours of the sky and sea,
blending into the scenery
like a chameleon:
an illusion thicker than the clouds;
an illusion of stone
for me to melt and reinvent
at the spinning speed of thought.
I watch my daughter
drink the seascape with a smile of wonder;
it's her first time visiting an ocean.
With our pants rolled up to the knee,
we wade through waves,
and collect stones and shells.
She knows the chameleon
who walks alongside her in the frothy surf.
Observing seabirds cover the steep cliffs
of the island located further out,
in a blanket of black and white feathers,
I wonder if people onshore
only see a solitary dash of red out here,
or if the chameleon
is more noticeable than I had thought.

As we walk hand in hand
Today as we walk hand in hand
Happily through pure white sand
The love within my heart for thee
It flows to you so tenderly.
The ocean waves ebb to and thro
As hand in hand along we go
Bare feet in the silky sand
The sun shines down and life’s so grand
We stop, the two of us and kiss
Oh how nice to feel such bliss
As love matures we two, entwined
Such perfect sweetness we do find
Today as we walk hand in hand
Happily through pure white sand.

The sky was orange, red and peach
we strolled towards each other
on a deserted pebbled beach
a smile that got us talking
together slowly walking
till twilight crept unseen
then off reluctantly
on a deserted pebbled beach
we went our separate ways
but first a promise made
next day to meet in the same place.
The sky now yellow, mauve and blue
I stroll alone by water's edge
on a deserted pebbled beach
searching for a voice
a smile just out of reach
your presence unseen
where the surf briefly meets
the shore, only to recede
two souls forever out of reach
on a deserted pebbled beach
where a promise was made
and would break along the waves
was love not meant to grow?
we will never know....

Today I could feel only burning salty tears of sadness
Alone as I walked slowly along the beach pondering
Sweet memories pervading my inner psyche deeply
With coiling inside gasps of heavy breathless moans
Sweetest honey holding precious memories so real
Faraway looking into the sun setting warm—a utopia
As a special friendship was born under a sweet kiss
While conjuring true a most incredible dream shone
Visions flashback into far distant everlasting thoughts
Full of smiles adoringly walking along the golden sands
Feelings with joy as magical tunes are so divinely sung
As large waves crash over and over in the mind’s eye
True emotions burning with love stays forever so pure
As tears fall upon the sand symbolizing a rapid change
In realizing your very touch means and meant so much
As salted heart burning flames stir unquenchable fires
You who burns inside this candle lost in your very space
Darling the happiest day of my life came on our meeting
As I found you fortified in a castle of one mystic dream
As whispers cast over the warm sea finding a true love
Carnations lovely crowning petals of a most regal life with
Beauty whose golden visage lights faraway sunsets so real
While smiling gently and graciously before her—Our Queen
Who seeks with tears and toil to restore our Paradise Lost

Hand in hand
Sandy beach with beautiful sunset
What could be more romantic than
when the sun is glowing red and orange
melts into the sea somewhere
And two who are in love and goes hand in hand
A small box
On his knees in the wet sand beach
Will you be mine
She blushes as the sunset
Smiles her lovely smile
Yes, I would
The sun melts into the sea somewhere
But for a couple in love, the night is still young

On the beach I found a seashell
luster of colors mixed with gold illuminate
Washed by the sea millions of times
tides turn as gentle footprints remain
I sit and ponder, how could it happen
salt breeze within an ocean's breath inhales
A journey of unimaginable time
drifting murmurs echo against waves crashing
In the sunlight it shone with many shades
satin pearl treasure heart between two shells
Carefully I opened and found its soul
it was then as one on whitewashed wings we flew free
I found a beautiful princess of the sea
Upon a sigh or dream revealed its inner secret

Decades stretched a cord, across years,
up the stairs, and around chairs
coiling beyond the door of one small room,
groomed by the sun, of a Saturday afternoon...
I am floating on a sea of a hardwood floor
Prone, on my back, upon a lavender rug
Examining the nail of my left hand thumb
with a phone at my ear, a smile on my face
while you've glady expressed, how you've aced an exam
I confess how I've missed holding your hand
only linked to your kiss, by a small ivory phone
With a ring on my finger, to bind young love
Blinded in the eyes, from an innocent throne
Invitations in the mail, and a church on hold
There was a cake on order, and a brand new world
You were glued to my ear, I was wrapped by a cord
that tugged on the wall, with long-distance words
Light from the yard is scored by the blinds
but, there on the floor, prone on my back,
I'm bound by the cord that tethered our lives
Linked to your voice, where a future was wound
Hovering over the sea of cold hardwood,
I had a pillow of shag, of that lavender rug
The days would stretch shorter and our vows, on hold
till the cord became stronger, watching years unfold

White whispers shush the sheltered shore, as soon the cockcrows wake,
and seas defy the skittish sky, sense summer zephyrs quake -
the passions of the sunrise pulse, the whitecaps throb and ache.
Along the crags crawl shallow shades the shrouded sun effaces,
while rain in streams belies the dreams that fantasy embraces -
the ocean sprays of yesterdays reveal forgotten faces.
The midday sun has slowed its run, a shrinking puddle steams,
amongst the knells of shattered shells a wounded seagull screams -
affection blends and never ends, or so it sometimes seems.
At dusk a ruddy fringe descends, the skyline's furnace burns
and neath the swells where Neptune dwells, an undercurrent churns -
the seahorse hides and seaweed bides until the tempest turns.
As seven stranded seamen seek the dimple-dappled moon
eleven sultry sirens serenade a lonely loon -
the breakers pound and sometimes sound a melancholy tune.
While twilight hosts monsoons with ghosts of barbed electric spangles,
a mermaid braves the crashing waves adorned in starfish bangles -
the spirit yearns in twists and turns entwined in rockweed tangles.
The storms ignite the briny night and rip the skies askew
with zigzag teeth flashed deep beneath a blazing bolt tattoo -
the flood abides the ebbing tides when all begins anew.

What would I give
to get a glimpse of your smile
to have and to hold
your heart for a while
I want to meet you
where the river meets the sea
Leave your oars behind
Set the barrier down
and sail away with me.
We'd sail away together
to wherever the wind blows
To our souls'velveteen gardens
where blushed crimson
bleeds its rose.
We'd sail away forever
to a secluded land
I curl within your arms
and hold on to your hand
We'd lay on autumn's blanket
Watch seagulls soar up high
above blue waters
'neath a mandarine sunset sky.
What would I give
to feel your fingertips
brushing sand between my toes
To taste your honey-dew breath
as the moonlit cradle glows
But,here I walk upon the sidewalk
Each footprint leading home
Under an antique street-lamp
Standing on my own.
And here I am singing a love song
My shadow dancing free
And there you stroll along the river-bank
so far away from me.

Is that a word,
Or the foundation of all mountains of speeches?
Is love a whisper or an ejaculation?
A prayer, or a plea?
Why is it that love crescendos off the tongue
Like caramel in symphony?
Why does it melt me,
As if by heaven God made me an iceberg,
To later fall in the heat of destiny like my enemies?
Is it woman,
Is it the softness of your hand,
Or the coarse scratch against a rocky sand?
You say you love me so simply, genuinely
What is it my mind cannot comprehend,
As my eyes zoom in to your wanting lips,
The almost anticipated sound saintly slips
A fraction to my experience,
And a lifetime left of its dark and intimate peaks. . .
In these mountains of words,
How does one sleep?
How shall we rest willingly in the dangerous unknown,
With you and I alone?
I love you too..
How can I not when all of its footprints lead back to you?
Love is as simple as the word yearning on your mouth
As deep as the dark, undiscovered creatures of the sea
Though, most of all,
As far as I dare feel and see,
As simple as it sounds,
And God must well agree,
Love is you and me

We have our differences in the shadows,
yet, act so different in the light.
Crimson shadows dance
within our dull routines.
With the moon beneath my wings,
I drink softly from the bottle.
I rehearsed this kiss a thousand times,
as archaic bridges emerge from the fog.
Come softly, butterfly...
Land upon my crooked finger.
The ebb and flow of I don't know
refills my unsure mind.
The aurora illusion,
novels of my life slowly written with light
as green and blue balloons float
away to the moon.
that fresh smell
the salt of
A table for two
on the beach,
a starlit sky,
the distant whale cry.
Holding hands, a sip and a sigh.
Burning bonds and bridges,
is just another thought to dole.
I should have told you that I loved you,
instead, I've these tattooed regrets on my soul.

Love me in Black and White
From the keys of your heart a melody rolled back the night
illuminated the sky with its symphony of lights
and fired new stars in the firmament,
each a budding soul, a firework
of colors spun within the
black and white keys
of your heart.

If you find me
If you love me
I’ll open all the doors
to that secret place
where time and space lie
all snuggled up in place
into love’s embrace
just love me (x)
in black and white (x)
and all the grey of my heart
will soon disappear for
your sea-foam brush
will spray clots
of colors in
just find me (x)
and love me (x)
black or white
and a burst of moonbeam
will unfurl its loving sails
and my pain will drop
right back into

I knew you long before
pursuit's intention shone,
felt you in sun's fiery warmth
& shooting star surrender,
heard your voice on soft
burbled whispers of sweet zephyrs
and nectar'd songs of hummingbirds,
saw your depths of magnificence
in sapphire ocean tides
cresting 'neath effulgent moons
savoring breaths of crystalline
snowflakes on crisp sea air,
I knew strength in your convictions
for it braved every fantasy's illusion
acquiesced 'tween dulcet desires,
whilst the strong presence of your charms
envelop'd every night's dreaming

As mist descended far and low,
dark storm clouds stirred the sea.
Upon the rocks a maiden lay,
weep by the tide did she.
Fair English rose, her skin so pure,
awash with salty dew.
Now tarnished, long cascading hair
once glowed a golden hue.
A sailor's charm did claim her heart
when first he stepped ashore.
He courted her, imbibed her love,
then told he'd stay no more.
His soul betrothed to ocean's breeze,
firm land was not for he.
Horizon-bound, his ship set sail
o'er black and verdigris.
As tempest ragings galled the waves
beneath the moonless skies,
a haunting sorrow chased the wind,
midst echoes from her sighs.
'cross briny depths she cried her vow
to wait eternally.
Forever on those rocks she lay,
weep by the tide did she.

Where Hard Rocky Crags Meet White Foamy Sea
Where hard rocky crags meet white foamy sea
rip-roaring splashes, sing softly to me.
Under starlit heavens, big yellow moon
Our fleeting lives vanish far, far too soon!
Where waiting sands absorb bold, mighty waves
further out lay, lost ships and lone sea graves.
Yet sadness can not diminish this view
Or hide the spot where I proposed to you!
I see again, star glow in your bright eyes
and hear that quick yes and your happy cries.
My darling, in this, our sweet tale lays bound
unbreakable vows, true love we both found!
Where hard rocky crags meet white foamy sea
rip-roaring splashes, remind me of thee!

Between heaven and earth is so much more
You and I are for instance, but before
We were, there was and forever will be
The imprint of who will be you and me
Through closed eyelids rosy light glows warm
Swaying left and right in golden sundust swarm
My wheels so insignificantly leave prints in timeless
Everlasting sand, tossed in tides, boundless
In faraway blue green, a scaled-down ship
Moves motionless, on a never ending trip
And we, beneath a humbling firmament
See immense constellations with no end
We sit here silent, hand in hand meditating
How balance in this world, weighing
On us, harmonizes love and awe in us both
Reconciliation of life, we speak our silent oath

Her heart sailed away from me into the sea,
Her love for me is just a fading memory.
I think of her love and faint to pray,
I trust in my God to show me the way.
Come back to me my love in the moon light night,
Embrace me once again for my heart to delight.
Come like the sea birds flying over the sea,
Come kiss me again for my heart to be free.
You are the young sunlight rising in the morning,
You are the brilliant full moon O my immortal darling!
I see you like the sea waves on the shores of our hearts,
Don't leave me and go for our souls to depart.
You shall be my eternal destiny until the end of time,
You are my divine inspiration in my sweet love rhyme.
Live in my heart and return to me once again,
Give me your sweet kiss to heal my heart's pain.
Let your love grow like a tree planted by the sea,
Fly away like the sea birds but come back to me.
Let your soul be join to mine as my everlasting token,
Kiss me forever more for our hearts never to be broken.

(In the words of a happy little mermaid)
I slide through silky cerulean seas
Silently swimming wherever I please;
I glide through water with buttery ease,
With skin that is smoother than ivory keys.
There are secret gardens I love to explore
Far below the world on the ocean floor,
Where are colors no man has seen before
Hidden in an underwater treasure store.
Deeper down in the sea, where I go on a whim,
The light is so far it is grayish and dim;
There the masts of shipwrecks rise dark and slim,
And coins of gold line passages I swim.
On tropical islands with flowing waves
I play in uncharted, mysterious caves,
Or nap in the sunlight's golden rays
In a silent shoal on balmy days.
I pick pretty flowers to put in my hair
And splash in the shallows with never a care;
The droplets shine like diamonds in the air,
Rising and falling like a crystal flare.
When the day is over, the dolphins sing mass
And the sun sets fire on the leaping bass,
Then I lie in a bed much clearer than glass
And pray a sweet dream for this mermaid lass.

Swimming in tears of glee
birth from water - my child I hold.
Gently, carefully I cut her free.
The skies open, rain streams of gold.
In tears of glee my child I hold.
Her mother immersed snugly
displays a glow. She flows, radiates.
I hand her our daughter our baby.
A sea of love opens the flood gates.
Our daughter our baby she flows, radiates.
Fluid are the feelings now fill me,
rushes through me like a lifeline.
We three, are now a family,
like rivers to the ocean, we combine.
Feelings now fill me, we combine.

On love's turbulent sea,
my steady waves roll in
and collide with you,
the unwavering stone
who cannot feel a thing.

She climbed the liquid staircase
just to gaze at gleaming stars;
all she wanted was a wee one
to light up her fair boudoir.
A thousand times she spied them
flash across the midnight sky;
she strained so high to catch one,
but the mermaid could not fly.
Exhausted with hard striving,
she lay back against the sea,
rocking on the waves, gently,
as she rested peacefully.
The moon, climbing his set arc,
saw her glistening on the foam;
at first sight so madly loved
her, longing to take her home.
To lightly comb her flowing
hair, he sent a small moonbeam,
who tangled in her tresses
and woke her from her dream.
With a flash, her glittering tail
slapped the water and she fled,
sliding down in the ocean,
hiding in her pearl lined bed.
The moon, absent one moonbeam,
wanders heaven, round and round,
surveying seas and oceans,
praying his mermaid is found.
Sometimes in the deep, dark pool
he sees a shining light start
beneath the frothing billows,
and he clutches for his heart.
Forever in his orbit...
she, forever in the waves,
her hair with his beam glowing,
all of love he ever gave.
