Harness Racing

Harness Racing ( Poem )

Horses pull a two wheeled cart
If it breaks you will depart

Place a bet before it starts
Good wager wins if played smart

Riders ready at the gate
Fans no longer have to wait

Athlete sport with high speed
Is a skill you surely need

At times a horse can fall down
Sad to see that come around

Last turn has crowd in a roar
We wait to hear close end score

If your looking to explore
My playlist has so much more

Befriending the wind,
His royal mane flows,
Inexorable, spotless white, there he goes.
Galloping away freely,
Away from this ruthless world .
His eyes lively,
His happiness swirled,
Searching for his destination,
A place to where he belongs .
Looking for his designation,
He calmly longs.
Across the highlands,
Crossing the streams,
Over the mountains,
Across the fields .
His head high,
And so is his spirit .
He gives away a deep sigh,
His attitude should get a credit .

Appaloosa Horses

Appaloosa Horses ( Poem )

Bloodlines have influenced breeds
For beauty and performance needs

Native American horses on t.v.
Used decades in western movies

Identified mottled skin note
Colorful leopard spotted coat

Emphasis in the muscling thick
Strong physical characteristics

Defined vertical striped hooves
White sclera eyes have looks improve
Establish an easy cantering
Well behaved, high head holding

Ride with a floaty, pacing trot
Light, airy movements that can stop

Become a judge and see yourself
On my playlist all by itself

Ridin' On, Alone

Ridin' down into the canyon
Looking for some strays
I chanced to think about
The passing of the days.

Been chasing after cattle
Seems a mighty long time
And all those days I ain't be able
To save so much as a dime.

Never thought I'd get rich
Hiring out with herds
But cowboyin' and old age
Seems really for the birds.

My backside and that old saddle
Have formed a kind of warp and woof
So the leather's highly polished
And now there's snow upon my roof.

When I was a young stud
With a bellyful of fire
Living day to day was okay
And riding out for hire.

But now the cows are contankerous
And cow ponies ain't so smart
So I've started in a-wishing
I had a gal to share my heart.

There was a gal in Lubbock
With long and yellow hair
But that was a long time ago.
She's no longer there.

I remember what it was like to love
Then left alone to ache
Lonely hours in the saddle
Every memory a heartbreak.

All those years riding the range
I've had some time to think
Of the difference 'tween Hereford hides
And skin so soft and pink.

But now time and youth are gone
Left back there in the colorful past
Old horse and I are all that's left
Alone on the range as long as we last.

Wild horses

Wild horses gallop over the fermented

lands of the Okanagan
in southern

British Columbia-

toward the mountains-

toward the Pacific ocean-

It’s a living flight of beauty-

a stampede of hearts

that pound the land-pulsing-

And at the end of the trail

in the ocean rain-

the necks of the horses rise

up like towers of pride

establishing(in the thunder

with their hierarchy-

the order of the wilds-California Blue

Keep Me Under Control

I am so wild, I carelessly run around
I am the last horse in a one horse town
I'm as wild as wild can be
I have zero guidance, so I live my life aimlessly
Do what you have to, send me to assist the Border Patrol
I need someone to neuter me and keep me under control
I live life by the seat of my pants
I don't want love or trues romance
I believe that every moment counts
When you fall down, there is still time and room to bounce
If a jet can fly, it can surely land
When wrong is done, justice needs to be a firm hand
One day I may feel peace and love deep in my soul
When I find that one that can keep me under control
If there is a poster child for bad, it has to be me
I do not welcome the Devil, but there will be no begging for mercy
I often wonder what do people think
I really don't care after my third hard drink
You are wasting your time if you want to preach
You are educated, so do your best to teach
I am not worth being loved by you, so do not glow
I want discipline, so do your best to bring me under control
I party and sin and live as I please
I will never be driven to my eyes
I am a rebel and that will never change in my life
Not looking for love, a white picket fence or a loving wife
I can take the streets and deal with them blow by blow
Are you the one to keep me under control
Some people have it, some don't and some never will
I'm tired of hearing about it, I have lived it, now it's overkill
The question is do I want to sell my soul
You can save me if you can keep me under control

Daisy May-My Horse

Daisy May--My Horse-
you have
four little
no bigger than
but oh-what
you do
to the earth-

I can
call you-
you're here-
you walk the
forbidding mountains-
stone and thorns-
by my side-
in the forest
you tramp through old
growth and still water-
in the foot hills
you gallope along
across rivers
and silent streams-
and at the hour
when the light
of the world
like a flag-
you walk
beside me-
a dauntless-
oh-my God
What you do
to the earth-

It seems
only yesterday
that you were
born in our fields-
opening your
excited stars-
two little bells-

You are a
beautiful filly-
a vibrant life-
a firefoot-
in southern
British Columbia-
your heart
with mine-
but oh-God
Daisy May-
What you do
to the earth-California Blue
