You Remind Me ( Part 2 )
No I will not forget,
Because you are always there
And you are following me all year,
Holding on to decorations on
Christmas trees in December,
Bubbling in my champagne glass
All new year’s eve,
Wrapped around my neck like
A purple scarf that chokes me in winter,
Hurting me until I burn,
Slithering beneath my tan in summer.
You are always there.
In little pop-up adds,
And in faces of people who
Have your haircut and
Look like you from behind.
You are always there.
In the disappointed faces of
Waiters left without a tip,
And in the gaps between
The teeth of six year old’s
Naïve smiles.
In the eyes of the blonde
Hero of my cheesy Thursday-night
Romance comedy,
In the words behind the words
Above and below the words,
And right between the lines.
You are always there.
When I try to read my way
Into oblivion.
You are always there.
No, I will not forget.
I never will,
And sweet darling,
That is my promise to you.
