Yelling With the Crowd

From somewhere deep in the woods A pack of dogs sound discovery; Perhaps a 'possum or a 'coon Or maybe that old black bear A farmer said he saw crossing Our dirt road--causes this choir Of tenor cries. I will not get my gun nor investigate What surprised the dogs. It's dawn and there is coffee Left to drink with thoughts Of the last time I was excited enough To yell with the crowd, Witnessing the unexpected.
