Yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwn

oh sweetly coveted
pandiculation,
i take this moment from the general rat race,
that never-ending flow of word, thought & deed to
touch the sky while keeping my feet pulling from my own
lower torso while
bending, twisting & contorting for
a moment of muscular refreshment
feeling the energy releasing from the stretching &
the solace that comes with breathing out
while just barely avoiding sleep
in anticipation of that inevitable collapse to come---
still, the
attempt to reach all the corners of the earth
while opening our mouths as wide as we can
unifies us with the rest of our species as well as
those living amongst us on four legs,
two clawed or legs
bearing talons---
it makes one wonder if fish yawn...
hmmm.

*after a finnish study on
“yawn contagiousness,”
we’ve found that
the mirror-neuron system which normally functions when we
consciously mimic someone else in the attempt at
learning,
does not work in the same manner when we
yawn---
in fact there is a belief that a certain part of the brain,
the left periamygdalar region
(associated with unconscious facial expressions)
may deactivate---
even more fascinating is the idea that
our ancestors may have yawned in order to show others that
their alertness level was fading
so that mutual sleeping patterns could be worked out in the
day--
regardless of the reasons why we
yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwn,
it does feel so good to have a great
stretch,
don’t it?
