Worthy of Passage

waiting in line before the gate with something to read
I have read this book which is compiled of many books
not off the shelf from the library, but handed down
should be a best of the top 100 books to read.
other books and literature are read sometimes over
some get renewed to acquire the authors scope
but my book seldom gets on the list of the best
often found dusty from sitting on the shelf.
I found life in this book unlike any other.
a life that suited me just fine without hesitation
upon my calling to heaven I only packed this
wasn’t much room in the coffin for more
once the train left me off at the big golden columns
I saw the long line of those waiting to get beyond
some were signing, others talking with remorse.
I stood silently reading and displayed no fear
like so many other did as they moved up the line.
after 15 minutes or so an angel at the entrance
noted me to be silent and pre occupied.
She motioned for me to step forward before others,
asking me what I was reading, I said the gospel.
I told her that my life was blessed
having read these scriptures thru my life
she flew off into the kingdom for a moment
and came back to the entrance and said
‘I’ve told the Lord of your liking’
he said, “for him that reads of the truth
about life and death shall wait no longer’
he is to come before me now”
the gospel has led my life all through
I stand now at his side which truth has given
