Woman In Chains

A band of gold bound them together At first Sue’s blissfully happy but little by little he starts controlling every aspect of her life eroding her self confidence by criticising her appearance choosing what she should wear and when she goes out holding her back with silken threads Sue loves her job but he persuades her to quit work after all … she’s paid far less than a man doing the same job When she stops visiting friends and family her parents become concerned but Sue tells them she’s happy and wants to please her man knowing it’s far easier to give in than risk another argument and face the force of his fierce fists Now, the only make up Sue wears is to cover the livid bruises on her pretty face There’s no escape for Sue… she’s held captive by the chains of love Woman in Chains Poetry Contest Sponsored by John Hamilton 08/18/20

It's very sad when women get trapped in the cycle of abuse you describe. It's even sadder when they can't break away from it. This is an impressive entry for the contest. Best of wishes. :) xx

A reality for some woman Jan that are being controlled by jealousy or selfishness. The Eagles song says it best.Already Gone " We live our lives in chains, but we don't even know we have the key." Its sadly their choice to remain with the people who control and hurt them and they can choose not to be with that individual, but many stay and take the abuse. A truth written here Jan. A winning entry for me...

A perfect depiction of the cycle of abuse as a woman disappears into herself - isolated from her gifts and giftedness by a false perception of what love is. Profound and heartbreaking, my friend. Best of luck in the contest and blessings to you!

Thanks Sam it is so difficult for someone to escape from an abusive relationship especially of they have had all their confidence stripped from them and the are made to feel so worthless:-( hugs Jan xx

So true to life Jan, you often hear of these cases and sometimes it costs them their lives and sometimes their children witness these attacks scaring them for life while the brute gets a light sentence. Good luck in the contest Tom
