With Pleasure

ghazal

Gracing the walkway, decking her brownstone with pleasure;
gorgeous escorts welcome folks to her throne with pleasure.

Strong roots like muscles fix these plants tightly to the fence.
Each stalk seems to bow, flexing its backbone with pleasure.

Familiar feature of each golden sunflower head -
its face follows the sun, a fact well-known with pleasure.

Alas winter comes, these greeters have waxed now they wane;
Like her, they need rest but will be re-sown with pleasure.

Saving some seeds for re-planting and roasting the rest,
healthy winter treat for Reason, home-grown with pleasure.

A warm and fuzzy feeling to this one ... your admiration for the flowers is so endearing. The language is also delightful and engaging: "gorgeous escorts" and "flexing its backbone". Sunflowers would be a cheery greeter, after a hard day's work, I imagine. I read this with pleasure.

thanks, Timothy, I welcome your comment and of course the placement in your contest. Sunflowers are a hardy flower and come in many varieties.
