Written: April 10, 2024, For Constance la France Contest Rumi Quote: "Longing is the core of mystery. Longing itself brings the cure. The only rule is, suffer the pain. Your desires must be disciplined And what you want to happen in time, sacrificed".
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As twilight slumps, shadows start to creep. My eyelids collapse—I tumble asleep. My soul dances amid labyrinth of despair, Yielding hidden spots in boundless glare. I'll behold you—poised with grace, A vast vision void by time embrace. Captured is midnight sky, Aphorism of shadows—enigmas reply. O moon of lovers, restore her stead, Grant me this single whim instead. She will remain in my embrace forever, Without shedding these aloof sobs ever. She watches patiently, in stillness, I can sense she's poised—in nearness. Amid endless maze, she idly awaits, Beneath the moon of zest gates. We'd waltz through the night, Let our love blossom and sway. Now, I behold a mere dream in sight, I compel you, dear, to sail back to me today. As the sun sets, I gently close my eyes. I'll descry you sitting there in disguise, Ensnared within the depths of sky. I will utter my prayer with a gentle sigh. Wouldn't that be ambrosial? Would you? Tonight, fetch my beloved home. Oh, celestial orb, lend me her view. Time slips away with the fading gnome.
Transcending time and geographical barriers, she will come sailing to you in a dream and satiate your wistful longing for her radiant and bewitching presence. There is an insatiable longing to get reunited with those who we love dearly. Your wistful longing to keep her in your loving embrace is so powerfully and beautifully expressed here. I am sure it will be placed high. All the Best dear friend.
SP, seems like a neat dream...having everything the way we want it to be. In my own experience, a lot of things I've wanted and could even visualize never materialized exactly as wished. But then, it wasn't the critical piece of the puzzle. It was making the best of what remained or starting out anew. What a journey it turns out to be. I love the quote from Rumi. The more I see you and others quote him, the more I realize how smart he was (and those who cite him).
Another fabulous write from you, my friend--resonating in essence of your Rumi quote--forlorn and powerful. A meaningful depiction of longing-- echoing laments of hearts.
How beautiful and soulfully divine is this passionate poem woven in such eloquence dr sotto! I absolutely love the flow of this and your rhymes are so catchy and captivating’ i love the quote that you’ve used here too as well as how seamlessly your lines go with one another. You always know what a prompt would need, and i love especially the lines “ O moon of lovers, restore her stead, Grant me this single whim instead. She will remain in my embrace forever”that just so touching! Love it! BOL
this poem read like a tender love poem wrapped in the beautiful, surreal world of the narrator's dream. I especially liked these lines: O moon of lovers, restore her stead, Grant me this single whim instead. She will remain in my embrace forever, Without shedding these aloof sobs ever I also liked "Wouldn't that be ambrosia?...time slips away with the fading gnome." Absolutely delightful. Best wishes with the contest, your poetess friend in Texas, Sara
