Wishful Thinking

As children we’d gather and toss
Dimes in wells, our to do wish

Old dreams wither in winter but
hope thaws in the spring, a new wish

Mine hands clasped in silent prayer
But no answer to my true wish

Time’s up, too many rain checks love,
Prithee grant that overdue wish

Our eyes meet and my heart grows still
Now tell me love what do you wish?

my first attempt at a ghazal.
