Notes About The Poem

Wiping Swiping

A bandit who thieves with the moon
Finds daylight arrives far too soon
     His looting is brash
          Despoiling the trash
A boon, what a raccoon leaves strewn ...

Another hides in cynoglossum
Awaiting the scraps 'coonies toss him
     Not there to impress
But to clean up the mess
That's why the 'possum's so awesome ...

Should previous-mentioned so lapse
Forsaking debris when night wraps
     As morning sun grows
          Those early-day crows
Are happy to clean up the scraps!

Greg, what a great write. I live in the country and I have coons and possums hanging around all the time. I just clean up and pick up and wait on the dump to open. Sharing a 1st place win with you, Bob Hinshqw, Jan Allison, and Laura Loo, etc. makes my winning feel undeserving, but humble and grateful as well.

Oh, you are QUITE deserving, Curtis, and making a well-earned name for yourself! I just had a 'possum on my from step, the screen door open and he was making that horrid sound at one of my cats, (who never goes outside) ... he was just a small one! Love them! Blessings and thanks, my friend! :-)

Great fun Greg, and the way the string progresses is especially clever - my fav is the crows and your meter is perfect.
