Winter's End

Bundled up in boots and jacket

With steaming mug in hand

I brave the cold, winter air

To sit in the bright sunlight.

Too long the gloomy clouds

Shadowed our earth, our lives.

Now, snowdrops and crocuses

Turn their faces towards the sun

And I join them.

The doe, her belly heavy,

Dines under sun-drenched trees.

We watch each other in silence

Both enjoying this glimpse....

this glimpse of spring to come.

This is a great poem. It highlights the cyclical nature of the seasons and the continuation of life after a cold and desolate winter. I hope spring comes soon!

The part where you show that deer with her heavy belly, that is awesome imagery, Francine. And how you tied it together, the both of you looking toward spring. Glad I saw this one on my way out to church today. Luv, Andrea

I hope you completely get over your bronchitis. I had that a couple of years ago after coming home from a trip to Florida. It certainly is no fun. I hope it gets warm enough for humans to dine under sun-drenched trees as well.

Although we'll see signs of spring soon in Florida, Francine, you may have to wait a bit longer to "dine under sun-drenched trees." Love the line about snowdrops and crocuses turning their faces to the sun. That's what forces the flowers to come out of hiding. Days are starting to get a bit longer at last! Hope you see the signs of spring soon as I know the sunshine would help your bronchitis. Lovely poem for the contest, Francine. Wishing you success! Love, Carolyn
