Winter's Approach

Sweet songbirds sing no cheerful refrains;
complete silence greets Winter's approach.
Bittersweet; Autumn colors forecast
sleet as Winter storms start to encroach.
Barbecue grills safely stowed away;
blue skies get dappled with clouds of grey.
Mildew spreading among rotting leaves;
Deja vu feelings come into play.
Snow smothers the icy streets until
slow-moving snowplows arrive on site.
Row on row of cars are left stranded,
though the city looks good, draped in white.
Everything gets snowbound, yet people
cling to the hope Winter won't stay long.
Spring will arrive soon, and Her warmth will
bring the songbirds back to sing their song.
