Winter Masquerades

Winter Masquerades... Winter sunrise Warms daylight Wears a mask of gilded paint Golden dawn masquerades as summer mornings Yet disguises Fierce storms Grinning thunder Snowdrops wait In hibernation Warm winter afternoons masquerade as spring Hunger for life so quietly sleeps When winter Prowls the Frozen earth Snowy jewel’s Foggy icing Masquerades as frost kisses on pumpkins Winter’s camouflage conceals the harvest barrenness To mask Arrival of Platinum tempests 1/13/21 Contest – Trinets Sponsor: Joseph May

Hi Jennifer! Thank you! For me, winter that seems so lifeless just teems with movement and potential. And, just when you think that winter is waning, it shows its true personality again in snow, rain and cold - rain for nourishment, snow for restoring sleep and cold to make rain and snow possible. Many thanks for your note of congratulations. Hugs and blessings back to you my friend!

Thank you so much Eve. I know many find winter to be a depressing and dark time of year but, for me, winter is filled with vibrant images and stark, architectural pictures. And, the colors in the winter sky are inspiring! Hope you are doing well. In my prayers...hugs and winter :)'s.

This was fun Joseph! The format allowed for images to be highlighted and then expanded - especially nice for a winter with its stark images. Thank you for your congratulatory note and for sponsoring this contest. Would love to see it repeated. All the best!

Thank you my friend both for your encouraging message and your best wishes. I so appreciate both! I think that poetry, like lyrics, allows us to tell a story in a few words. I'm so grateful for your feedback on this point. Hope all is well. Blessings and bunches of hugs!

Lovely metaphors, especially 'Masquerades as frost kisses on pumpkins' - some winter days do feel like late fall or early spring, but then the dark cold returns and you remember what month it really is - this is a top winner in my book!

Hi Connie! Am way behind answering emails! Thank you for your best wishes and gracious feedback! I really like the trinet form as images and pictures can be highlighted - can stand out with impact. Winter with its starkness really seems to work in this format. Think of you often! Hugs and aloha! Blessings!
