Winter Garden Afternoon

Soon after winter has begun,
when Earth is closest to the sun,
short days lengthen one by one.

Then, through my window’s frosted glaze,
life in God’s garden holds my gaze --
blooms of colors burst ablaze!

Jasmine yellows, hellebore pinks,
beautyberry purple-pale inks,
Blue Jay in the bird bath drinks.

Woodpeckers at the suet feed,
a hungry fawn hopes for some seed,
wishing winter would recede.

Thanks, Paula. Well, the deer ate my recently-planted azaleas and perennials, then pooped all over my yard, but I still enjoy having them around.

Pitchers and catchers report tomorrow (Wed., Feb. 17) on many teams. A sign of Spring, however remote that may seem north of the 'Mason-Dixon Line.' ~ Play Ball! :) gw

Thanks, Gershon. We are about to get hit with a Nor Easter. But spring training starts less than 4 weeks from now.

I appreciated the images created in each stanza, Eric but verse three was particularly appealing. An excellent entry to Rob's contest.
