Winning

In poetry contests
I'm number one.
In collecting N/A's
I'm second to none.
Losing I found
keeps my feet on the ground.
Which could change
if ever I won.

Funny, whimsical poem. I think we all feel that way a lot of the time. I think you are right about losing keeping one humble, although that wasn't a positive that had occurred to me!

Hi Barbara, the positive thing is it makes me try harder.

This is humorous in its self deprecating way. Never give up and you will soon have more wins than N/As. ,(if that's even true about having so many N/As. ). Take Dilly Dally's advice.

Hi Andrea, I'm not to concerned about receiving N/A's, it's the taking part I enjoy.

What a powerful "Winning" write. I do not know why some win/some do not or why some place high with some low. Guess it is all about how the reader reads it when judging. You are a wonderful writer so write on. I write for my readers...... Have a blessed day writing away............

Hi John, I am odd as I dont play in contests. It is just not my thing. I prefer a friend here, not a trophy. Good luck, Pangie

Oh I have a massive collection of N/A's but it either spurs me on to try better or I realise I have no chance with that sponsor and just don't bother writing for their contests any more. Without soup contests I would never have written my first limerick and look where i am now - 'The Queen of Poop on Poetry Soup' and I even have a diamante crown sent to me by a wonderful poet who has supported me so much during my time on soup! WRITE ON John:-) hugs Jan xx

Nicely said, I'm sure most of us feel that way when we lose, and when we win quite elated. Blessings John, Jennifer.

Hi Jennifer, one day it will happen, the only downside is I'll lose my NA record. Xx

Brother John, you’re a winner to me in every contest you enter. I agree one can’t win them all, but can’t stand seeing N/A after one’s fall, I think it would be better if the sponsor put nothing at all.. Sis Beryl

Hi sister Beryl, if the sponsors judge the poem, and not the person who wrote it, things might be different.

Dear John, ah you definitely have a sincere voice in your poems and NAs can be disheartening but often its all about the judge and their taste too. I enjoy always reading your thoughts. Sending you light aways~

Winning is often overrated, John. Tis better, I think, to keep your feet on the ground.
