Winds Near Heschel's Grave

Stark winds blowing across the fields and streets The grave of that honorable rabbi is covered with leaves Very difficult to live up to such piety But some grasp that the essence is what must be grasped Instead of the "outer shell" As I pick up a pen to express myself I must tell you Fanaticism is not good - not good at all

hey did you know this one is top of the list for your best poetry? I cannot find your old pages, matt. So I don't know what to see of yours any more. How do I get to your old stuff? I don't understand why it is hard to see all your poems when everyone else has their pages right showing for us to see!!

Piety vs Fanaticism? Doesn't it take a little bit of both in the broth of a Rabbi's soup? Should the 'pain' of an unfamiliar flavor spoil the taste. Your poem suggests so.

I feel a sorrowful tone with this one. I also feel the conflict you have with Heschel and his strong fanatical views. "Very difficult to live up to such piety' speaks volumes. Well written

btw, I grew up in WA state. I hate it there. Too rainy. DC is not like that, is it?

I really like this short piece, matt. also a question, why is your poetry divided into two different groups? I read your soupmail and saw that your poetry can be seen in two lights. HOw is yours different so that one way you can see only one page and another way you can see many more??
