Notes About The Poem

Painting by John William Waterhouse: Windflowers, 1902

Windflowers

unsated
she deprives
wild flowers
of their freedom...
the wind picks on her greed

A beautiful tanka, my friend. Absolutely perfect and the image is so clear. You picked a beautiful painting to share with us too, Paul. This Waterhouse work reminds me of Andrew Wyeth's "Christina's World." Love, Carolyn

So glad you like it, Carolyn. Some picture can be very inspiring. I looked up 'Christina's World'; it is a lovely painting, though unlike this one it's in realist style. Love & Hugs // paul

Beautiful painting, and clever haiku. You are right, Paul. I love flowers in my home, but always hesitate to pick them because it feels somehow wrong.

Yes, sadly when picked they soon die Paul. I would not have thought of wording it so cleverly as you did Paul. I simply adore the painting too. Bravo! : )

Your enchanting poem so succinctly captures the spirit of the young woman and the atmospheric feel of this lovely painting, Paul. Such gorgeous imagery, especially your last line. I have a lot of catching up to do with your writes since I've been really busy with work and family life and not on PS much lately :( It looks like life may slow down a bit mid-month..Warmest wishes and hugs to you my friend. ~Susan

Thank you, Andrea. I studied history of Art, and one of the painters was John W. Waterhouse. His paintings of women from ancient Greek mythology and Arthurian legend can be quite inspiring. ~ Regards // paul
