treasures of childhood pride of the horse chestnut tree~ ready to conquer 20 August 2019 ‘Conkers’, the shiny brown seeds of the horse chestnut tree are collected and used in a traditional British children’s game whereby the conkers are threaded onto a string and each child takes turns to strike until one breaks! ‘Tree themed haiku poetry contest’ sponsored by Tania Kitchin (Syllable count checked 1 -by ear 2- PS syllable counter)

I will admit, I did read the notes and found the game you described fun and interesting but I did not catch the play on words in "conquer" and "conkers". That was cute. We do have horse chestnut trees in the U.S. but they aren't as prevalent as some other species.

Thank you for taking the time to both read and comment,Chris. I wasn’t sure whether Americans had such a tradition or indeed whether such trees grow outside GB. I hope that people read the notes so that the play on words in the last line isn’t missed.
