Wind Puppy

Like a cantankerous puppy,
Dancing in circles around me,
The wind whines and whimpers,
Demanding my attention!
It teases as I walk, pulling
At my flapping coat-tails!

Leaping for my scarf,
It nearly knocks me down!
It noses up my pantlegs
And then my sleeves.
It nips my fingers and toes
With its sharp teeth.

I turn into my driveway,
And, just that suddenly,
The puppy-wind grows tired.
It circles me wearily
A few more times, lies down
At my feet, and goes to sleep!
