Why I Loved Carolyn Devonshire's Poem: See Me Now

See Me Now by Carolyn Devonshire

See me while my eyes are open
don’t delay until they close
sealing away my soul’s window

look within, see the love and joy I hold
capture this moment
remember me this way

when the light leads your eyes to heaven
think of me, smile sometimes
let laughter be my legacy

I cannot live today if you fear tomorrow
my eyes are open
see me now

The above poem was written by Carolyn Devonshire in 2011 for Brian Strand's "Whatever Any theme/Any form" Contest.

Note:
I found it very difficult to choose one poem from the many inspiring poetic gems that our dear Carolyn Devonshire has left behind in Soup. Still, this particular poem, 'See Me Now' - the moment I read it, I loved it and felt I could relate to it: "To live for the moment" - Her words in this poem show how much she loved the present moment.. the 'Now'. These are my favorite lines..(though each line in this poem is a fav): "don't delay until they close, sealing away my soul's window", "let laughter be my legacy ", and "I cannot live today if you fear tomorrow" revealing a beautiful soul's love to revel in the moment. Though I didn't get to know of Carolyn, reading her poems gives me a feeling as if I had known her long before. This star will keep shining from Above Forever. I sincerely thank our dear sponsor for giving me the opportunity to read some of Carolyn's inspiring poems in order to enter into this beautiful contest.

I will start looking for Carolyn tribute poems today so I can post the list quickly when my "uncontest" closes out by next weekend. Anitha, I am trying to read as many as I can today since I'll be busy with grades next weekend. I think yours is one of the best ones chosen becaue it is so soulful and I can just imagine her thinking these thoughts as she grew closer to death.She wanted to be remembered with joy and not with sadness. you REALLY captured her essence by choosing this poem. TFS!!!

Ani, this tribute to Carolyn is just beautiful . I find your note so heartfelt and inspiring. I agree with her simple magical words ....of being in the present. For that is all we have. We have a choice to be a beacon of light each present moment and radiate our light outward towards other. Of course while mixing lots of laughter and gratitude in the mix. Sending love and all good wishes to you and yours. Your friend Susan xx
